Does anyone know whether Nordstroms will price match an item that is the exact same price but available from an out of state retailer? Basically, I want Nordies to waive CA sales tax for an $$$ purchase. I did a quick search but didn't find the answer to my question. Thanks guys!

I don't think they can waive the tax since they have locations in CA.

I think my question was unclear...I want to buy a Proenza Schouler bag from Nordies. The bag is also available at Proenza's retail store in NY so I wanted to know if Nordie's will "price match" Proenza in waiving sales tax, since if I purchased from Proenza, I wouldn't have to pay CA sales tax. I don't want to just purchase directly from Proenza because I want to examine the bag beforehand and I believe Proenza only allows store credit, not returns. Hope that made more sense!

Nordstrom will virtually do anything for the customer. More so than any other store w/the exception of Amazon. As far as sales tax, this is not typical and could only happen in store w/manager Override. Honestly I wouldn't even mention the tax, take advantage of the 40% off and maybe open a Nordstrom card. If you're worried about credit, opt for the debit card and if u spend over $100 when u open ur card you get $20 or more in Nordstrom notes. Or just order the bag and if u don't like, ship it back or return at your local Nord. Shipping always free

I spoke with my friend who works for Nordstrom about this same topic and they cannot waive sales tax if there is a Nordstrom in your state. If the bag were marked down they would match it but not the tax.

It's not price matching with waiving the sales tax. I think going there is a bit of a stretch honestly. It's tax.

If you got them to price match a store in your state and you lived in wis would they charge you tax even though there is no Nordies in wis ?!?! Lol

Come on now...

Thanks for your reply...unsure what you meant by "take advantage of the 40% off" though. Can you clarify?

They legally can't waive tax.

They don't take tax into account when price matching. Tax is going to the state, not nordstrom and they are obligated to collect it. I wouldn't even think to ask them something so odd.

Technically, if you buy the bag from proenza NY, you are supposed to declare that on your taxes and pay tax on it.

I just had to vent. I tried price matching a pair of shoes from ssense.com and the live chat person would not match it for me because you have to create an account to check out. I think it's bogus. I tried explaining that it is not like gilt or rue la la where you have to sign up to even view what is on sale. You can google ssense, go on the site, and see the price right away. Ugh! Vent over.

Try calling Nordstrom

I don't really understand price-matching; can somebody please explain the point of it to me? Can't you only price match if it's the EXACT same product, like color and everything? If so, what is the advantage of price matching?

If it's the same product same color at a competitor they will match the price- remember it has to be a competitor like saks are Bloomingdales not ssense or bluefly etc

For me, I like Nordstrom's return policy and they will back me up if the product turns out to be defective. Also, I can also rack up my points for Nordstrom notes. Lately they've refused to price match a lot of my requests and it's too much of a hassle so I will purchase from the competitor instead.
