I have managed to resist the relaunch (like Jamie no returns puts me off too. I would love a moss mini moon clutch but worried it will smell bleachy like the miss mini cross body I returned to Matches last year

I really want a suede moon clutch too and asked about the bleach smell yesterday during the ASk MG Anything event. They said that each batch is freshly tanned so depending on when they are sold, the smell can be stronger and will dissipate over time. I don't know if that really is the case. I sold my moss lady bag at a loss as a result. :shrugs:

I agree with the ladies that are saying the "no returns" is a turn-off. I am new to the brand and just can't take that chance. I am confused about why a seller would have a no returns policy.

+1 I decided to pass on the launch for this reason. I am not able to see one in person before purchasing, so will stick with my LV totes for now. 🙂 My wallet is happy.

Because they can. :shrugs: If they're constantly selling out even with the people turned off by the policy, why would they bother with the costs and difficulty a regular return process would create.

I also think the type of leather these bags are made of creates a whole element of problems with returns. Not everyone gets or is ok with the idea that these bags aren't meant to be pristine. Nearly everyone wants a perfect bag with zero scratches to start with. If people start being able to return a bag they've handled, the next person isn't going to want the bag that seems used, and thus a vicious cycle begins that can only end when bags get sent to tjmaxx.

I don't like it either, but I understand it.

I understand it too from their point of view given the nature of the leather. I haven't ever seen a completely flawless one and I guess some people would return based on a "fault" when they don't see it as one.
But there are SO many stockists with regular stock coming in at better prices that do have a return policy and often free shipping that there is no need to rely on their own website launches.

I honestly think that MG's return policy is part of their selling strategy. Similarly, I think that the brand tries to create demand by doing these launches every few months (so that they can instantly sell out). I am not disillusioned to think that all of this is not part of some grand marketing scheme. Furthermore, the brand has been going strong for some time now. It is interesting that they would rather choose to expand on their product line than work on maintaining inventory. This either shows a lack of foresight or an innovative strategy to perpetuate interest in the brand. Despite all of this, I still very much admire the beautiful and simplistic design of these bags. But I do not think that this brand will have a leg to stand on long term if they do not offer returns and start regularly restocking the website.

I agree with you. It is a marketing strategy. I mean they say it is to make quality bags over quantity, but it is crazy how fast they sell out. The months long wait for a bag is crazy though. The return policy is ridiculous. Also can't try the bags on, how do you know it will be flattering, that you will like the particular leather/color.
But they look like beautiful bags - very excited to get mine.

I think you're spot on about this being one of strategy. This market is very crowded so it's important for them to continue to create demand. I do think they have some limits with respect to inventory because these bags are all handmade so scaling handmade labor has its limits. Still, the return policy is smart on their part because the demand is such that they don't want to mess with returns, especially with this kind of leather.

I didn't buy anything but I did poke around the site last night and there were still some bags available, so that does say something about their inventory going up --or demand leveling off--or a combination of the two.

I have a regular black/royal bucket and a mini camello/azzuro from last year and love them both. I would love to see the tumble tote but I want to see it in person before committing to such a purchase. All that said, it's nice to see a small brand succeed in an age of mass produced, expensive designer brands.
