New packaging

@fice16 I am sorry this happened to you and the others. Whether one wants the box or not is not the issue. I only have a few Van Cleef pieces but the green box, the white box, the ribbon and the bag etc these are all part of the shopping experience. I actually even expect the travel pouch, which came with every piece I bought in the past, without even asking. It should be up to the customer to say if they want the extras. I leave all my Hermès boxes behind now but that's my perogative. This is not what I expect of luxury shopping and a brand who is so proud of their heritage as makers of fine jewellery. They could have looked at other options as suggested such as using recycled material. Even Dior beauty online gives you the option to choose plain eco-packaging. I would say this to Van Cleef - this is badly done. Badly done.

Many VCA lovers at this Forum (including myself) are quite turned off by the new VCA packaging. Personally, I will do a wait and see approach. Unless it’s for the SOs and rare pieces that I have been hoping to get, I may hold off purchasing until there is more clarity of what VCA is leading into the overall shopping experience.

I think I will find an opportunity to ask the SA if they have a better packaging for pave pieces. Not sure what their response will be. I have quite a few of jewelry boxes and pouches that I don't really use, so I wasn't pushing to ask for a box since the magic pendant is flat as compared to other 3-D jewelry pieces like earrings, rings, etc.
For comparison, here is the new packaging VCA offers for the magic pave pendant - white paper box (thick base) with ribbon + a thin big pouch.

The old packaging I received for non-pave magic pendant - a white small paper box + velvet jewelry box. (+ travel pouch optional).

Crossing fingers for you. I think you should receive both. For $31K, they can find you a box.

Just received my online order in the US (Vintage Alhambra Onyx Pendant) and I still got the massive grey box along with the green jewelry box inside the white box and travel necklace holder.

Honestly, after thinking about it, I was wondering if the new packaging was that big of a deal to me or if it could maybe be something I could accept. Your pic shows that, to me, yes it’s a big deal.

I would be thrilled and excited to receive a gift in this nice box, whether it’s a gift from someone else or myself. I haven’t seen the pouch in person but don’t imagine it having the same wow factor.

Imo… Eco friendly is using recycled paper, skipping the huge box with confetti, maybe even not wrapping the small box. Throwing expensive jewelry in a travel pouch is just careless, thoughtless, and cheap.

Yes. I have several of those giant grey online order boxes. Those boxes with the great deal of confetti are wasteful. A classic jewelry box and a travel pouch. People keep those. The rest will go into landfill if clients don’t recycle. Sorry. VCA is greenwashing if they are claiming reduced waste.

With luxury jewelry purchases, presentation is everything and encapsulates the experience. I have to say the feeling is totally different when you look at the Magic pavé pendant in the new pouch vs in the original thick velvet case. A travel pouch is a travel pouch, it’s not a substitute for the original case.

I agree with many on here that VCA should ask the customer whether or not they want the velvet case if it’s such an issue for the environment. If they care so much for the environment they could even say, for every velvet case you choose to not take home with your purchase we will donate $_ of your purchase to __ Environment Foundation. That to me is much more compelling to try and switch customers to be more eco friendly, and in a classy meaningful way. But I guess at this point we all know they’re not doing it for the environment, they’re doing it to cut cost somewhere.

I am saving to purchase the 20 motif in chalcedony. I do not think I would purchase if VCA was not able to assure me the original packaging. It would not be happy having my third and most expensive purchase be the lesser in packaging. I am a collector at heart and would want all three pieces to have the same packaging.
I hope you get the 20 chalcedony! That necklace is so gorgeous!

I know folks are upset at the lack of a box, but on the upside (there is always an upside to everything), there will be an unlimited supply of pouches for everyone!

I'm a pouch hoarder, I have a disorder, I admit it. I love pouches! :biggrin::heart:
My SA knows this, and I have so many pouches that my SA gives me as he knows I travel often. Truth be told, I use the same pouches for travel until they are super beat up. I save all the other ones and keep them in new pristine condition. But I never say no when he gives me more!

Since VCA only gives out pouches now, they will have a stockroom full at all times.
When I purchase next piece(s), I am going to ask him for two pouches!

I really do hope you get the 20 chalcedony... it's a stunning piece!

I hope you get lucky and still receive the old packaging. I believe they’re using up whatever they still have in stock and then moving on to the new packaging. I fully paid for a bracelet order before the price increase but haven’t picked them up yet because it’s with a boutique overseas. I hope by the time I pick up in early December they would have reserved the old packaging for me since I technically paid for this in October before the price increase and before the new packaging announcement otherwise I’m going to be quite disappointed..
You may want to text your SA to hold one for you, or better, have him send it to you now. That will ensure you get a box before they run out.
