I also feel like a box provides cushioning and protection for the jewelry & feel like things can break more easily in just a flat pouch . Especially a more dimensional piece like a ring or more delicate chain pieces.

This - I totally agree. How will these pouches protect the rings/earrings and delicate stone jewelries made of lapis and turquoise? I don't know.
Fortunately, I do have a few boxes around that can be used to store the jewelries made of these stones (small collection). I would not store them in flat pouches for sure.

Perhaps VCA was hoping we would just use the cardboard box that the pouches come in to replace the function of the thick velvet case, lol.

Exactly. I would buy a box for these types of pieces anyways to store them properly. I am OCD with keeping my jewelry clean and protected.

For luxury prices, the box should be standard. I’m baffled they are being so stingy with them. To the poster with the magic pendant, I’m especially shocked they gave the pendant to you like this.

Nope, no cleaning cloth. I asked customer service if they could send me one and they told me they've never had the cleaning cloths, hmmm. My SA in one of the US boutiques says the same thing but I know someone who went to New York City and she received a cleaning cloth with her purchases.
Did you receive a cleaning cloth at all? Just curious as I’ve never received one with my online orders, but would be nice. I was going to buy a bracelet next year, but now with the packaging changing I may have to do it soon. I want the bracelet box AND the travel pouch.

Part of the allure for luxury purchases for me is packaging - it's a fundamental part of the entire experience. I appreciate others may differ in their expectations or desires, but I agree that the customer should be given that choice.

I have a piece on order right now, and I called them to find out the status of my order, and also put in a request to make sure that when the piece does arrive, that I get it with the old proper packaging. She tried to give me the spiel about how it's more sustainable, but I was having none of it. She put a note on my order for my request, so hopefully they will acquiesce. Fingers crossed!

I think I will find an opportunity to ask the SA if they have a better packaging for pave pieces. Not sure what their response will be. I have quite a few of jewelry boxes and pouches that I don't really use, so I wasn't pushing to ask for a box since the magic pendant is flat as compared to other 3-D jewelry pieces like earrings, rings, etc.
For comparison, here is the new packaging VCA offers for the magic pave pendant - white paper box (thick base) with ribbon + a thin big pouch.

The old packaging I received for non-pave magic pendant - a white small paper box + velvet jewelry box. (+ travel pouch optional).

Hi! Box or no box (I never even use my boxes), above all else, it's the piece that counts, and your Magic pave pendant is stunning! It's fabulous and so sparkly! I'm not sure if you're a 20 motif gal, but it would look gorgeous layered with a 20.

Congratulations on your beautiful new piece!

Hi BigAkoya, thank you. The magic alhambra pendant is beautiful. I actually don’t use most of my boxes, and feel I have too many boxes/pouches around. It would be good if VCA offers original packaging for my magic pendant, but I am also Ok and accept if that is their standard packaging for flat jewelry pieces (ie. Alhambra necklaces/bracelets) going forward. Even though I have to say the new packaging doesn’t delight or ‘wow‘ me anymore.

I don’t have 20 motif in wg but only 10+5 motif in yg. Will wear the new magic pendant for now and decide if I want to add chaceldony in the future.

I have mixed feelings here. On the one hand when I recently made my first purchase at Tiffany and saw their packaging was just a pouch in a box, I felt that made my VCA purchases look more luxurious and a cut above.

On the other hand, I feel like the VCA boxes and cases are a bit of smoke and mirrors anyway: the cases are synthetic materials rather than wood or leather, and if they are anything like sister-brand Cartier’s packaging, they are made in a low-wage country and have weights inside to make them feel heavy. (I even considered decluttering my Cartier packaging and only reconsidered in case whoever gets my pieces when I die wants to resell them.)
