Well if that IS the case, their PR department really screwed up because the phrase "bonded leather" has a definite meaning in terms of leathers used on furniture!
Agree!
Yes it seems contrary to their stated strategy to position the brand as more exclusive and high end.
I'm concerned that we won't know which newer MK bags are made of bonded leather because they are not being advertised clearly or correctly in some cases. I'm not surprised that MK took these bags out of the MK boutique and off MK online. That would make sense, as he wants a higher end position in the handbag market. There just needs to be some consistency when describing bags with this type of leather so as not to confuse customers. I'd hate for someone to go to Macy's online and buy that Mercer bag thinking it was made of premium pebbled leather when it's most likely made of bonded leather. :frown:

Found these doing a search on bonded leather bags [emoji44]
These MUST be bonded to leather like the Miranda right?!

Here's the definition of bonded leather from Wikipedia...

"Bonded leather is made by shredding leather scraps and leather fiber, then mixing it with bonding materials. The mixture is next extruded onto a fiber cloth, or paper backing, and the surface is usually embossed with a leather-like texture or grain. Color and patterning, if any, are a surface treatment that does not penetrate like a dyeing process would. The natural leather fiber content of bonded leather varies. The manufacturing process is somewhat similar to the production of paper.[1]

Lower-quality materials may suffer flaking of the surface material in as little as a few years, while better varieties are considered very durable and retain their pattern and color even during commercial use.[1] Because the composition of bonded leathers and related products varies considerably (and is sometimes a trade secret), it may be difficult to predict how a given product will perform over the course of time. There is a wide range in the longevity of bonded leathers and related products; some better-quality bonded leathers are claimed to be superior in durability over low-quality genuine leather.[2]"

SO basically it's a crap shoot you have no way of genuinely knowing, and frankly i don't believe for one hot second the brand name will change this. Just more angles to cut costs while raising prices, they seem to think we are all obsessed with owing a brand name at any cost.

This is scary. According to the definition, there's no way to know how high percentage there is of actual leather. I would be pissed if I paid for a designer bag & found out later that it's made of cheap, bonded leather! It's sad that MK is using this material in his bags especially with many opinions that his items are poorly made. This is the kind of thing that fuels that kind of opinion & will only justify it in the minds of those that have it.

Yes, it will be a crap shoot & buyers will have to really do their research when making a purchase. And I also believe this is just another way to cut costs while keeping the prices high, especially now that MK is wanting to limit dept stores from over selling his MMK line & wanting to raise the exclusivity of the line. :frown:
