Scarves MYH's Scarf Showcase - and philosophical ramblings about how I built my collection

Dear MYH and other Ladies, you are such enablers:
Reading what you wrote about Astrologie nouvelle - a companion for travelling... - the tutorials, the pictures: time has come to join the 140 silk club.

I tried Mors et Gourmettes Remix for the first time in September, the SA at the duty free suggested it, but I was unsure about the CW since is is rather cool. And the pattern seemed so "anorganic". Usually I tend to like nature themed and cute scarves.
But I liked how the heavy silk felt on my chest (no plume, the label read winter silk, it feels a bit softer that the regular twill, but I think it is the same).
A few days ago I saw it at the store, wanting to try the darker cw21 (not available), left it at the drawer. The next day I went back and got it. It is so nice around the neck when it is cold outside. Very different from the CSGM feeling. And funnily it feels much more casual than the 90ies...

So I spent some time playing with it, taking photos with my phone. I suck at taking selfies, the tails are wrinkled, but I had so much fun. Look what you made me do:

Thanks for letting me share :smile1:

Omg! I'm in love! That looks fabulous with your various color tops and how you tied it. I thought that pattern was kind of boring but it's not at all. Good choice!

That's really very pretty. And you've certainly got the tying aspect well in hand. Isn't it nice to have something that's different from what you usually have? Adds a little spice!

Oh wow that's really pretty! Such great colors!!

Mors ring baby! It looks great with 70s.

Ooh! I really like that short necklace knot. Filing away in my scarf knot data bank....
:crybaby: Pirula - when I tried the mors ring, the tails didn't look long enough on me. I think I need lipo on my tree-trunk neck.

Oh that's just beautiful! I love the colors. And of course it looks fabulous on you however you tie it. Pirula is right. The mors ring is wonderful with the 70s.

Going back to yesterday's post: so let me get this straight, you have fabulous taste, an awesome bag scarf and accessories collection, great hair, you write take photos and make crafts like nobody's business and you have a cute hubby with a British accent?!? If you were not one of the sweetest people in the world I think I might dislike you. But I can't. [emoji8]
Oh PbP - you put together a very generous list but don't forget, I have a tree-trunk neck, I'm short - need to get everything tailored, am sometimes short on patience, and the list goes on and on. I'm in awe of you because you take care of people and save lives as a doctor. And have a fab chanel jacket and bag collex, as well as Hermes collex to boot! :hugs:

This is a fabulous colorway and I, for one, quite like this pattern. I actually considered it for myself but there were so many others I loved more. That is often the problem with H...one thing is as beautiful or more so than the last and thus it makes budgeting quite a hassle LOL.

I think 70s are a great format...they may even be my favorite even though I own just one. It seems every time I find a 70 I love, along comes a 90 that I love more HAHA. Since I wear cowboy knot 75% of the time, I find the 70s are perfect for that...just the right amount of fabric. As the other lovely ladies mentioned, you could use the Mors with a 70 [Although I can't since my neck is quite huge. Forget swan-like, mine is almost owl-like :p] The 70s are also perfect for the bias fold with a simple knot around the neck [a la 70s stewardess...my second most used knot LOL].

As far as the 'hand' goes, I admit that I am somewhere in the middle. I prefer my new scarves to be crisp but I love how they develop their own softness after lots of wear...to me it feels different from the already 'vintage" feel of the 70s. Though I may just be nuts...it wouldn't be the first time someone said so!

OH, and of course it is a Natsuno Hidaka design. She is the fabulous force behind Turandot and Balade de Heinan!
You are full of great knowledge. Again, I had no idea Rose de Compass is a Natsuno Hidaka design. I'm a huge lover of Turandot so it makes sense I was attracted to this design.

I for one, like rose compass. aLso, I love the softer, drapey feel of the 70s. I usually wear 70s in cowboy or like your 3rd pic, sometimes instead of knot , I use maitai ring in smallest size ( petite? )
At any rate, I am your sister. I have the 70 scarf in the pale green/ blue/ grey CW. I found it is goes with almost everything in my closet! It was a design that definitely grew on me! tHen I got a matching bangle, and of course 2 moussie stoles, LOL! See multiples week on SOTD thread. I posted on Sunday.

I don't understand why this design didn't get more love!
:ghi5: I'm happy I found a cousin on on this design. And you have a matching bangle and two moussies! I'm going to head over to SOTD to see your lovely pics.

Yeah, and she's cute too. [emoji6]

Really MYH? Your neck doesn't look big in pictures.... 🤔

I thought this was a great design but I missed it because I was having a nervous breakdown :shame:. But I agree with you that H doesn't do enough good greens. Does this scarf inspire you to track down something in bamboo or malachite to match? :giggles: Love love love the earrings.

I have an idea for a knot that works great with 70s. Similar to what you're currently doing but with a twist to keep it interesting. Mai Tai's Snowball Knot!

She has instructions on Youtube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxz50CyPI1U&index=13&list=PL51FDAEB22AAC74F8

As if there wasn't enough reasons to love this woman, she's using Erik Satie's Gnossiennes as background music.

This is the 70cm Faune et Flore du Texas special Houston scarf.

Thanks for your suggestion TT. You know, I have watched almost every single one of MaiTai's videos but I never tried the snowball knot. But I grabbed my scarf ring and tried it out with one tail much longer than the other (don't know why, but I prefer it that way) and although I don't love love it, I do think it's an option. Strangely, I just think some knots go better with my style than others.

Ooo, I love this design! But H was not on my radar when it came out. So I have contented myself with twillies in almost every cw of this design lol. And, I do have a "new to me" CSGM in the blues/purples/yellow cw that I got from a fabulous tPF member. I love your cw! And I love the earrings!

Ooh - a CSGM is even better! I bought one at one point but released it to another home because I decided the bright orangey/coral border was too much for me. I had the one with pinks, oranges, and soft yellows. I don't think I have ever seen you model your Compass CSGM, care to show us? :wale:

Klynneann, me too. I'm so sad I missed this one so I have three twillies instead. There is a very bright 70 still online but I'm not sure about it. It has been in my wishlist forever. Can we see your csgm?

You have 3 twillies! :woot: I'm not sure where I was when the twillies came out but I have ZERO twillies in Rose de Compass. :no-good: I think I might have been having a nervous breakdown about building a pool and remodeling our house at that time.

MYH, I have this same colorway of Noel 24 too. I love it to bits as Dd collected snow globes as a child. I figured one day she might like this one. So far no signs of her wearing 90 cm silks LOL! I'll post mine on SOTD soon.

Lanit - a perfect scarf for a snow globe lover! I'm sure once she figures out how awesome your H scarves are, she will claim it as hers.

I love, love, love this scarf MYH, one of my HG's I'm afraid...and far too pricey now. I will try my best to listen to your advice and practice patience! So glad to see you posting after a busy Thanksgiving. Your insight and advice is so valuable!

This is lovely on you MYH, I am just starting to build a 70cm collection, and tie them as you have done. I would also add the style that birkinmary posted many moons ago on the "how to wear a scarf casually" thread...which I think you may have started as well. Anyway, she pictures the H Comme Hermès design simply tied in a sideways cowboy knot, in combination with a necklace to hold it in place. :D

Yes Bova, at this point, better to wait for holiday pricing to subside with holiday scarves. Good luck in finding yours eventually. And yes, thanks for reminding me about BirkinMary's sideways cowboy with necklace over it. That's one of my favorite ways to wear both a 90cm and 70cm and somehow I forgot!

Here's my attempt at snowball knot and sideways cowboy.

Some thoughts on the de la mer since I have it in a different colorway. It's a great scarf. One I constantly wear in the summer.

If I am going to bias fold it I generally do it in just the direction you show. Doing it the opposite way doesn't work as well because there is too much contrast on the two sides (less with mine than yours). If you triangle fold it you can definitely use three of the four corners. I find the fourth a bit challenging because depending on how you wear it you see upside down birds. In yours it is the coral corner. I would love to be able to use more of that coral. Have you been able to find a way to wear it to play up the coral?

Here is my blue vert mauve. Just for comparison. It is a more seasonal summer scarf than your colorway and I think reads more casual, whereas your colorway can go casual or dressy and seems more year round.

If you want us to hold off on comparisons until you finish let us know. I just thought the comparison would be interesting. But I don't want to interrupt your show.

Finally looking through this thread! I have the same cw as you & love it. I bought this one because it is so much like the summer colors where I live - south Florida. MYH's cw is equally beautiful & versatile. Wondering if it's still available.

MYH I am raising my hand as one who took against Rose de Compass before I saw your post . But I'm loving it on you in these colours , it looks geometric and stained glass both of which I love in a scarf .
My prejudice is against designs based on a concentric wheel , I can't forget one called Sextants which I bought years ago and which DH loved being as it was pale blue , a colour he loves and which looks terrible on me . Still not been forgiven for selling it ,but I feel so much better without it cluttering up my life . It tied so badly, the colours drained me and so ship compass/ sextant themes are not for me!
Anyway , I'll reiterate, it really looks beautiful on you .
I too am a huge Mors/70cm wearer .I don't wear my Mors much with 90cm but the size and drape of the 70cm are well nigh perfect for it. I see this with the permabrass which would look fab with the greens.
I don't have a H metal scarf ring yet , always been meh about them for the neatness and
goody two-shoes look they confer, but there is one specially made for 70cm which does look very cute and gamine IMO .

I see you in my minds eye as a gamine lady , we never see much of one another but I do have a mental image of everyone based on style, choices etc !!

MYH Forgot to mention a couple of favourite 70cm styles .
J'aime mon Carré : I do a thin bias fold, single knot 10cm from one end, sling round neck and thread other end through .Looks like a mens tie , but nicer [I don't care for the mens tie technique too much though it looks v similar]

F and F de Texas Permabrass Mors 90cm

Both styles best with low neck , and the first looks fab in neck of a shirt too .

Anyone remember the beautiful Charlotte? Her blog Scarfmoodist is full of flair and she has great 70cm ideas .

FF - thanks so much for sharing that 70cm scarf ring. I had no idea and I think neither did many people reading this thread. But your guess about me is correct. I kind of want to look insouciant when wearing scarves. Anything that looks too proper just isn't my style. I'm definitely a fan of wearing scarves a bit askew or asymmetrical. I would probably never tie a scarf with two tails exactly the same length.

And I hear you on the circle design. Funny enough, I'm generally in agreement with you. For instance, I am not a Tohu Bohu lover. That design never did anything for me. But I seemed to have made an exception for Rose De Compass. Not sure why myself? I can't even explain it. Just something about the scarf is pleasing to my eye.

And I see you are one of the ladies blessed with a swan-like neck. Your tails on the scarf with your mors ring are so looooong. Mine are so short. It looks so fabulous worn that way on you. I tried the mens tie knot but for some reason it's not me. But looks truly lovely on you and I'm sure many here are appreciative for this knot tying suggestion.

And yes, what ever happened to ScarfMoodist? I loved her blog. I wish she would make her way back to us Silkies.

Honey locks! So excited to see you on the 140cm train. Doesn't it feel so luxurious around the neck? In my opinion (ducking from people throwing rotten tomatoes at me), so much softer and dreamy than the CSGMs. I have tried on the Mors 140cm you have and you're right. It's much heavier in weight than the summer plumes and perfect for cold wintry days. And with a bit of care, I do think the 140cms will look "newer" longer due to it's weave and not getting snagged as easily. Your photos are lovely and thank you for sharing them with us!

Hello silkies. At the behest of a H scarfaholics anonymous club here on tPF (you know who you are), I have been asked to share my collection of scarves and thought process behind why I chose these to be in my collection.

I'm not a natural writer so you may see alot of ramblings and random thoughts that are not presented in a logical way so I apologize upfront.

I'm typically a pared down type of gal when it comes to my wardrobe, but with scarves, I went a bit overboard. I know I don't have a huge collection by tPF standards, but I probably have enough to discuss my scarf collecting philosophy and if it stimulates a collecting discussion, then fantastic! :yahoo:

For those of you that have seen my bag showcase thread, I intentionally keep my bag collection small. I feel horribly guilty when I buy things and don't use them and with bags, if I have more than 10-11, I literally forget I own them.

But with scarves, well, they are smaller and easier to store so I have about 50. I think I just counted how many I own and currently it's at 47. I recently gave away 3 to my little sis to help her start her own collection. I do use almost all of my scarves, some more than others, but I will admit, it's always a work in progress. Some get rehomed, some new ones get adopted, and sometimes they follow me home from the boutique.

There is really nothing more magical than a scarf. On a day you are feeling uncreative with your outfit, just wear all black and pick out a Hermes scarf and toss on a bracelet or bag that matches the scarf, and voila, you have an amazing outfit.

Ok, let's get started. First I will show you a group shot and then I will go into each one and tell you a little more about it, why I like it, how I wear it, and all that good stuff. This process will probably take several weeks because there's no way I could do it in one go. So if you'd like to come along for the tour through my drawer, I'm pleased to have you on board.

A little late joining this terrific thread! Sorry. Hope to catch up soon
Thanks for everything!!

A little late joining this terrific thread! Sorry. Hope to catch up soon
Thanks for everything!!
Glad to could join us here Keren 16. It's a great thread where we all share ideas and sometimes, if requested, I will go into detail about how I tie a certain format scarf.

I wanted to add a post today but I'm having the worst time taking pictures. It's just one of those days. The lighting is weird in the house and every pic has some strange shadows, or shows my neck to be extra wrinkly, or the scarf to look washed out, etc. etc. I think all you guys and gals know what I'm talking about if you are regulars on tPF. It's just one of those days but I'm going to persevere and do the best I can with the photos I have.

I wanted to feature a 70cm today, Rose de Compass. And unlike the 140s which I have endless creativity for, I am a bit stuck on the 70cms. So I'm hoping some of you can help us all out and offer suggestions. I adore the hand of the 70cms. I think there are two camps for silkies. Those that like soft and drapey scarves, and those that like the stiff and shape holding ones. I'm in the soft and drapey camp and will almost always wash my scarf by myself immediately after buying it. So 70cms are right up my alley. But I feel their size is a bit awkward. Just not big enough to wrap around my neck twice (no swan-like neck here) comfortably so I feel the options are limited. But this scarf, I could not resist. Hermes rarely makes scarves with alot of green in it. And I love green! I'm always drooling when PaperTiger posts all her green bags. She has the best green collection of leather in my opinion on PurseForum. So in this case, I saw it and knew immediately that it would be a great match for my chrysoprase earrings from Suzanne Felsen. Does anybody else love chrysoprase? I have two hands in the air. I adore this jadey green color on jewelry and accessories. And this scarf also has capucine in it and I love that color too. So it was mine once I set eyes on it at the boutique.

I'm not sure if this scarf ever had a following of admirers? It was kind of lukewarm I think on the forum. Did anyone else get this design? It also came out in a 140cm CSGM but none of the colorways screamed my name. If, however, it ever comes out in a 140cm giant silk, well I'm sure I could probably make one of the cws work for me.;)

Ok, back to tying. Other than a cowboy knot and short necklace knot, and bias fold criss cross knot, I'm not really sure what else to do with it? Any suggestions? Perhaps wear a 70cm with another 70cm? I just don't have another 70cm that goes well with the colors in this scarf. Here is my scarf shown with my Gris T Evelyne, those chrysoprase earrings I love, and an illusion bracelet in capucine. I also had one piece of beautiful soft green leather in my craft box so I made a four leaf clover out of it. I figure I need all the luck I can get.

Also, thank you everyone for your sweet comments about the leather ice skate bag charm I made. I started making some for friends as presents and if you want to see some others I have made, check out my instagram page. I put the link below in my signature.

I think this looks awesome, especially in the first photo where we see more of the scarf. That's actually what I like best about the 70s (I only have two) - you just tie it around your neck, lol. And, of course, the delicious softness.

I love this design, and am always "watching" it on EvilBay, but haven't yet got one. The peachy-orange CW is intriguing, and the green/turquoise also, but this one of yours is really really really pretty!
