Scarves MYH's Scarf Showcase - and philosophical ramblings about how I built my collection

I thought this was a great design but I missed it because I was having a nervous breakdown :shame:. But I agree with you that H doesn't do enough good greens. Does this scarf inspire you to track down something in bamboo or malachite to match? :giggles: Love love love the earrings.

I have an idea for a knot that works great with 70s. Similar to what you're currently doing but with a twist to keep it interesting. Mai Tai's Snowball Knot!

She has instructions on Youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxz50CyPI1U&index=13&list=PL51FDAEB22AAC74F8

As if there wasn't enough reasons to love this woman, she's using Erik Satie's Gnossiennes as background music.

This is the 70cm Faune et Flore du Texas special Houston scarf.

I wanted to add a post today but I'm having the worst time taking pictures. It's just one of those days. The lighting is weird in the house and every pic has some strange shadows, or shows my neck to be extra wrinkly, or the scarf to look washed out, etc. etc. I think all you guys and gals know what I'm talking about if you are regulars on tPF. It's just one of those days but I'm going to persevere and do the best I can with the photos I have.

I wanted to feature a 70cm today, Rose de Compass. And unlike the 140s which I have endless creativity for, I am a bit stuck on the 70cms. So I'm hoping some of you can help us all out and offer suggestions. I adore the hand of the 70cms. I think there are two camps for silkies. Those that like soft and drapey scarves, and those that like the stiff and shape holding ones. I'm in the soft and drapey camp and will almost always wash my scarf by myself immediately after buying it. So 70cms are right up my alley. But I feel their size is a bit awkward. Just not big enough to wrap around my neck twice (no swan-like neck here) comfortably so I feel the options are limited. But this scarf, I could not resist. Hermes rarely makes scarves with alot of green in it. And I love green! I'm always drooling when PaperTiger posts all her green bags. She has the best green collection of leather in my opinion on PurseForum. So in this case, I saw it and knew immediately that it would be a great match for my chrysoprase earrings from Suzanne Felsen. Does anybody else love chrysoprase? I have two hands in the air. I adore this jadey green color on jewelry and accessories. And this scarf also has capucine in it and I love that color too. So it was mine once I set eyes on it at the boutique.

I'm not sure if this scarf ever had a following of admirers? It was kind of lukewarm I think on the forum. Did anyone else get this design? It also came out in a 140cm CSGM but none of the colorways screamed my name. If, however, it ever comes out in a 140cm giant silk, well I'm sure I could probably make one of the cws work for me.;)

Ok, back to tying. Other than a cowboy knot and short necklace knot, and bias fold criss cross knot, I'm not really sure what else to do with it? Any suggestions? Perhaps wear a 70cm with another 70cm? I just don't have another 70cm that goes well with the colors in this scarf. Here is my scarf shown with my Gris T Evelyne, those chrysoprase earrings I love, and an illusion bracelet in capucine. I also had one piece of beautiful soft green leather in my craft box so I made a four leaf clover out of it. I figure I need all the luck I can get.

Also, thank you everyone for your sweet comments about the leather ice skate bag charm I made. I started making some for friends as presents and if you want to see some others I have made, check out my instagram page. I put the link below in my signature.

Ooo, I love this design! But H was not on my radar when it came out. So I have contented myself with twillies in almost every cw of this design lol. And, I do have a "new to me" CSGM in the blues/purples/yellow cw that I got from a fabulous tPF member. I love your cw! And I love the earrings!

Klynneann, me too. I'm so sad I missed this one so I have three twillies instead. There is a very bright 70 still online but I'm not sure about it. It has been in my wishlist forever. Can we see your csgm?

Hello silkies! It's been too long! Thanksgiving really threw my schedule out of whack this year. I just literally dropped off my last houseguest at the airport yesterday afternoon. Whew! I love having people over but it is all consuming. But now, aside from laundry :giggles:, I think I can go back to my regularly programmed scarf sharing schedule. Hahaha. I thought about posting something while my guests were here, but I didn't know if I felt like being caught "red handed" taking pictures of scarves, bracelets, and bags. I would have had a lot of explaining to do! I kind of love that tPF is my own little secret world.

OK, now that turkey day is behind us that means holiday scarves get to come out and play! Woo woo! I only started collecting holiday scarves this year. Up until about 40 scarves in, I wasn't sure if I wanted to sacrifice a "spot" in the collection for a scarf I could only wear about a month out of a year. But the CUTEST scarf popped up for sale about mid-year this year and I could not resist. It usually goes for a bit over retail and I managed to get it way under retail. If any of you are looking for a holiday scarf, I would say resist the temptation to buy it now. The sellers know we are all in a holiday mood and have increased the prices because of the season. This is a great lesson in patience. First you have to be patient and wait until a scarf is out of season to buy it, and then after it's purchased, you have to wait again to wear it. So much waiting! :sweatdrop: For those of you who frequent the holy grail scarf thread, you know the mantra over there....be patient.

I could barely contain my excitement at the time but when I received it, I realized I would look like a lunatic wearing it in the middle of July. So I have been patiently waiting...and waiting...and waiting. And now the time is here! :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Love this scarf - Noel au Faubourg pictured with my gold kelly 32cm and some accessories. I absolutely adore the little ornaments on the tree so I took some close up shots. If anyone else has this scarf, it would be awesome to see a scarf on site pic at FSH! And to top it off, about a month later, my little sis got a great price on the little sister version of this scarf in a gavroche.

MYH, I have this same colorway of Noel 24 too. I love it to bits as Dd collected snow globes as a child. I figured one day she might like this one. So far no signs of her wearing 90 cm silks LOL! I'll post mine on SOTD soon.

I love, love, love this scarf MYH, one of my HG's I'm afraid...and far too pricey now. I will try my best to listen to your advice and practice patience! So glad to see you posting after a busy Thanksgiving. Your insight and advice is so valuable!

Oh, I have loved this post the bestest! And I totally agree the little ornaments just make the scarf, like the goofy little horses on Hippopolis.

I succumbed to Neige d'Antan a few years back and can attest to it's loveliness, especially in this colorway, which doesn't look too "Christmassy." With its icy pale blues and folded so the snowflakes are highlighted, it just looks "wintry," and can easily be worn through January, even beyond.

And just as the little ornaments are the most fun part of Noel, the borders are the most fun part of Neige d'Antan.

Love Christmas!!! So much fun!!
:rockettes:

Arrrrrrrrrggggghhhh!! Major Bummer to get outbid :nogood:

With this particular colorway, I really prefer to show off the snowflakes over the mistletoe. I just love the frostiness of this scarf!

This is such an elegant design tangotosca, and of course exceedingly elegant on you!

This is lovely on you MYH, I am just starting to build a 70cm collection, and tie them as you have done. I would also add the style that birkinmary posted many moons ago on the "how to wear a scarf casually" thread...which I think you may have started as well. Anyway, she pictures the H Comme Hermès design simply tied in a sideways cowboy knot, in combination with a necklace to hold it in place. :D

This is such a special scarf tangotosca, and this tie really shows off its' beauty!

MYH I am raising my hand as one who took against Rose de Compass before I saw your post . But I'm loving it on you in these colours , it looks geometric and stained glass both of which I love in a scarf .
My prejudice is against designs based on a concentric wheel , I can't forget one called Sextants which I bought years ago and which DH loved being as it was pale blue , a colour he loves and which looks terrible on me . Still not been forgiven for selling it ,but I feel so much better without it cluttering up my life . It tied so badly, the colours drained me and so ship compass/ sextant themes are not for me!
Anyway , I'll reiterate, it really looks beautiful on you .
I too am a huge Mors/70cm wearer .I don't wear my Mors much with 90cm but the size and drape of the 70cm are well nigh perfect for it. I see this with the permabrass which would look fab with the greens.
I don't have a H metal scarf ring yet , always been meh about them for the neatness and
goody two-shoes look they confer, but there is one specially made for 70cm which does look very cute and gamine IMO .

I see you in my minds eye as a gamine lady , we never see much of one another but I do have a mental image of everyone based on style, choices etc !!

Ooh! That sounds interesting frou frou. May I ask which one this gamine 70 ring is? I'm not at all familiar with it. Thanks!

MYH Forgot to mention a couple of favourite 70cm styles .
J'aime mon Carré : I do a thin bias fold, single knot 10cm from one end, sling round neck and thread other end through .Looks like a mens tie , but nicer [I don't care for the mens tie technique too much though it looks v similar]

F and F de Texas Permabrass Mors 90cm

Both styles best with low neck , and the first looks fab in neck of a shirt too .

Anyone remember the beautiful Charlotte? Her blog Scarfmoodist is full of flair and she has great 70cm ideas .

Pirula

It's called Clic C'est Noue and is designed by the same lady who did Coup de Fouet . I saw it in store worn by a SA , and was told it was specially made for 70cm . It's too small to wear with a 90cm I believe.
