Such a gorgeous changeant dear MYH. Funny, i felt the exact same way with my blue and copper PdV. The subject matter did not appeal to me, though the animals did. I eventually rehomed since i had several blue moussies that i reach for much more. Hmm, tying issues... yes, chiffon does move a lot with wind, but so do twills. I like layering mine in spring wrapped several times around my neck higher up, but drape loose in the summer because i am always taking off and on for meals and work. Also suggest trying a stole ( so much easier to tie and remains in place) or 90mousse format as you like the cowboy style. I agree that mousses are not everyones cup of tea, but they are pretty much my favorite format lol. Some ways that i tye my mousselines.

Lanit you so suit these mousselines , posts like yours made me sure i'd suit them , agree about the 90cm being easier.

It's no secret mousselines are my favorite format as well. I'll have to go dig through my pics for ties. But, like lanit- I tend to keep them up close to my face.

Just as MYH said, you can fold up the 140s in to a quadrant, and because it is thin, you can tie it to be more like a 70, and this is great if you like cowboy styling.

@frou frou- you can also do exactly the same thing with a 90. Fold it in to quarters and it's about the size of a pocket square, but with more body. WIll do a pic.

As with all my scarves, I alter the tying method to suit the clothing. When I use a cowboy styling, I always make sure to wear something either fitted, or interesting and edgy, or I think I look to conservative with a loose shirt paired with a drapey cowboy. It's just not a good look for me. If I wear a loose shirt like a sweat shirt, I opt for a very fitted scarf like a twilly or pocket square as a chocker to balance a loose shirt. Also, if I am wearing a shirt that has a rounded neckline, I tend to avoid wearing my scarf with long tails and use that look with deep v's instead. So for me, I try not to give myself rules or limits on what designs I might buy, but instead let the clothing choice (and also the time of year) suggest and influence the tying possibilities. I'm lapping up my accordian cowboy now, because in a few more months, I won't want that much folded fabric near my neck!

Here's Quadrige stole wrapped a few times, and tied simply. Loose-ish sweater with a rounded neck. so no drapey tying. I like this look on me.

Here was a mistake: Same loose-ish sweater, but twill scarf with a long tail. Not my favorite look for me....Makes my shoulders look more slopey.....

GM mousse with a v neck shirt. Long tails work fine here....

One way I have managed to wrangle all the fabric in the 140 moussie, is to fold and then use a scarf ring, when it it is warm, I hate having the fabric too close around my neck.
The final pic is my moussie stole flying in the wind- it felt wonderful on that hot day!

I do love your Savana Dance scarf1! And the French knot and Weave knot are one of the easiest and best ways to use the stoles!

You look wonderful in these Bunnycat.I get your point about volume ratio, but there's another factor at play here and that's the very unusual colour ways like grey and olive green which look edgy , a look I love! You wear the pink Millefleurs with a military style jacket which plays the masculine/feminine card really well.
I like my two 90cm mousselines because they will stay put in my preferred style, as against silks which need knots [or magnets for those with patience] this one is Splendeur des Maharajas

Thank you!

And absolutely, I hear you on magnets. Just can't go there. That's more fuss than I have in me for tying a scarf!

But you are one of those people who look great in a cowboy tie. I'm always a little jealous, because it's so easy and casual, so I just have to work to come up with other easy and casual ways of tying that work with my stylings.

Greys can surely look edgy, and so do black and white combos for some people, just not me...boo hoo... I have to leave those colors alone much of the time, as they don't work on me and I look like a belly up fish. So I go back to getting the edge from my clothing, and letting the scarf choice and tie method amp and accentuate the edge or polish.

I think everyone has similar end goals with their scarves (whether it is to look polished, or cool and edgy etc...I know I like to look cool or polished or edgy and definitely not more...ahem...*mature* than I already am at 50!) and people just have to use their knowledge of their personal styling to make them work in the right way (which may again not work for another person) whether through use of colors or tying or sticking to more modern designs and formats. It all evens out in the end, and it makes the journey a fun one to figure out as it's good to see how other people's approach to similar issues.

Hopefully, sifting through people's thought processes behind this helps people who are new to it and still "discovering" what combinations work for them and everyone's input here helps them in some way to know themselves better (and hopefully avoid expensive scarf mistakes!) I really hate expensive scarf mistakes....

Well said Bunnycat  , except for the bit about the belly up fish which was most unlikely!
BTW just spent 30mins trawling Mousselines thanks to these enabling shots from Lanit and yourself ….

Gosh, there have been so many responses since I last checked into this thread and am so happy to see some of you have shared your rules too.

No need to ever beg forgiveness for contributing to this thread. Thank you for your sharing your rules with us. It’s funny how many of us share the same rules but also differ on others. Particularly colors but that’s totally expected since we all don’t look alike. The only comment I have is #3 . I’ve heard from many scarifies that they are frustrated with too much fabric but through some creative tying, and convinced them to give the larger formats another try. I think the trick with all that fabric is that your knots may have to be more deliberate and neat. The causal sloppy method sometimes does not work for petite gals when there is so much fabric.

I think it’s interesting that we both came to the conclusion that too many gold scrolls or cherubs may not be doing us any favors. I’m also on the no bow knots bandwagon!

Ah...you’ve made it to the stage of constant curation of your scarf collection. Let me tell you, this is a full time job! LOL. But I had to laugh when I read your rule about limiting the long flows tails. I cannot tell you how many times I bent over to pick something up and I noticed my scarf was sweeping the floor. Eeeeeew!! One time, it was even in a public restroom. Double ewwwwww!

Lol- yes- I have devoted probably far too much attention to it lately! It certainly can suck up your free time!

Also, for anyone wanting to see more moussies , and how to style them, check out this thread

One of my all time favorite threads scarf1! All the way from beginning to end and back again!

Bunnycat thank you for taking the time to write this and to show examples. It’s very helpful and gives me ideas. I can tell when something works or doesn’t but I cant always discern or articulate why.

PbP- You are welcome! It has never occurred to me that it could be a topic of interest to people! There's certainly been a few scarves in my collection that were saved from a dreaded purge by finally figuring out how to style them better.
The whole topic probably has enough meat for its own discussion, even though we'd probably end up with a lot of caveats and YMMV responses. :P If you think it would be a fun discussion, we can start a thread though!
