Scarves MYH's Scarf Showcase - and philosophical ramblings about how I built my collection

Hi Nicole0612 - the origami bagcharm is not a Petit H item. I actually made it myself. OK, maybe this weekend, I will find some time to find the ornaments in my garage. Stay tuned.

More on origami ornaments .... please sneak a bit in here .... I remember when Maitai made origami ornaments out of the scarf photos , to present one seasons scarf collection , brilliant idea , you can probably search her site for the idea

StyleEyes, do you know what size the container is where you have your scarf rings and other "trinkets" stored?? I've been trying to find drawers like these but can't seem to find the right size! And I love how you've stored your twillies too. :)

Klynneann, these are the ones in the picture from StyleEyes above:

http://www.muji.us/store/acrylic-case-5-drawers.html

edit: Actually the picture looks like two stacked 2-drawer units.

This one is also available which is similar to the one Myh spoke about:
https://www.muji.eu/pages/online.asp?Sec=9&Sub=39&PID=7464

I saw it last week, but could not find a purpose for it. Guess I should buy some twillies.

Thank you klynneann! I fell asleep looking for the drawers to answer your question lol![emoji849]

Genie27, thank you for stepping in with the answers!! You are right about two stacked to get 4 drawers! Good eyes! [emoji106][emoji122][emoji122]

Quick tip, the 5-drawer version, klynneann originally linked, has 1 inch deep drawers. Through trial and error, 1 inch is a little too small for most of my items.

I originally ordered the 3-drawer version (linked below), but bc the drawers were too shallow, I ended up using it on my vanity for makeup. [emoji848][emoji106][emoji7] IMG_1478965122.045153.jpgIMG_1478965136.680144.jpgIMG_1478965148.395746.jpg
http://www.muji.us/store/acrylic-case-with-3-drawers.html

I went back and ordered two of the large 2-drawer versions. They have 1.5 inch deep drawers, which is the perfect height, and they are stackable!! [emoji41] (The site says the drawers are 1 inch deep, but they are actually 1.5 inches.?) [emoji107]IMG_1478965187.484637.jpgIMG_1478965198.869363.jpgIMG_1478965210.069181.jpg

Thank you so much for all of this information!! I have run out of room for some of my H bracelets and things, and thought stacking drawers would be a good idea but I don't want to hide them away and couldn't find the right size drawers. This is so helpful!

These are exactly what I use to store my scarves! They are fantastic.

MYH, I must say I love your thread and enjoy reading all about the "how's and why's" of your collection!! You have most certainly inspired a few of my purchases!

Going back to the topic of Twilly storage, I also had a hard time figuring out where to put these guys and, like you, my collection grew well past the point of having to look inside each box to find the one(s) I was looking for.

Then a member here posted a pic of how she stores her Twillys in a Muji acrylic box and I fell madly in love with the idea. It took me a while to get around to purchasing the boxes and now I have completely forgotten who posted the idea. I hate that I can't give the proper credit. Thank you, who ever you are!!!

Anyway, the day I bought these, the site was having a sale, so I ended up grabbing a couple of other boxes as well. You may recognize a few things in one of the drawers!! [emoji6]

Here's how I store my Twillys, charms, and other small "trinkets". View attachment 3518690View attachment 3518691

Please excuse all the scarves laid out, I was doing a "family portrait" for inventory and insurance ((knocks on wood)))purposes!

ETA: I can get 4 Twillys per drawer comfortably, 6 if I squish them. However, I decided to grab a second box so I have room to grow. [emoji849][emoji4]

Yes, I was thinking the same.

@MYH, I'm so sorry!! I made 2 terrible mistakes!!
1. PAA (posting after Ambien)
2. PBC (posting before coffee)

I hope you can forgive me!!

Nothing to forgive darling! I love that you showed photos of how you store your twillies to show another option. Now you have me thinking I might defect from my bead storage idea!! LOL. And your collection is a feast for the eyes!! Oh my!!:heart::heart: I keep going back to your photo and looking at all your pretty silks. I love that we all gather here and share our H storage hack ideas!!:biggrin::biggrin:

Thank you for the tip! That is such a neat idea. I will look for the photos on her site!
I could not find it yet, but I did find her blog that mentions making one of the origami figures from the Hermes paper if anyone is interested.

Dear MYH, you are so gracious! Thank you for the lovely complements! That was the first time I have ever pulled out every scarf I own. I took about ohhhh, I don't know..... a million pictures!! Lol! I felt like I had my own H store in my closet. I left them out like that for the day. I couldn't stop myself from sneaking in every few minutes for a dose of happiness. My DH said if I didn't put them away, he would have to send me to rehab!

Thank you everyone for joining me on this thread and for sharing all your finds and ideas! It's really fun for me as well. And although I try to respond to everyone, I know that sometimes I miss people so I'm sorry if I missed you. I especially love the new scarf collectors because I remember when I was in that stage. I would buy scarves as fast as my bank account would allow me. :panic:I would literally fall asleep at night with iPad in hand looking at the new listings on evilbay and checking out H.com.

OK so since we have a few "newbies' here, I thought I would go over a special category of scarves. The Holy Grail (HG), sometimes even called the Ultimate Holy Grail (UHG). There are many other more seasoned and knowledgable collectors here on TPF so feel free to chime in if you have something to add!! You will see these scarves priced way over retail on reseller sites. Some even in the $800-$1000 USD range. The crazy thing about these scarves is there isn't a book/list called the "Hermes Holy Grail Scarves List" that all scarf collectors refer to. Somehow, scarf collectors all over the world, without much communication except maybe here on TPF (LOL! TY TPF!) decided certain designs and certain cws were "must owns" and therefor created a market where demand outpaces supply. The effect of this, of course, is that HG scarf prices can be astronomical. But it's not any list that's written down or published. It's just out there....in the cosmos.

Now when you buy a new scarf, you will not know for years perhaps if you just bought a HG. And newer scarves don't usually become HGs overnight. It takes awhile. Of course there are some exceptions. Like C'est La Fete. I actually wasn't around when ClF was issued but I heard it sent people running to the boutiques and it was hard to find even that season. And the thing about Hermes is sometimes they will reissue a design years later and sometimes they won't. And very strangely, Hermes seems to know which ones are holy grails and tends to not reissue them again. Just to mess with us. And if they do, it's not quite the same. There was much anticipation this year over C'est La Fete 140cm cashmere because it's definitely on the Holy Grail list. But then...instead of releasing a typical multi-colored version...they release a "finesse" version. Of course, it's still pretty and I know many that bought them. But I decided to sit it out because it wasn't what I wanted. :crybaby:Some others are Ex Libris en Kimonos, Turandot, Zabavushka, Le Pegase d'Hermes, La Femme aux Smelles de Vent, the original ex libris shawl, Fleurs d'Indiennes and many others. In fact, there's even a whole thread about holy grail scarves here. http://forum.purseblog.com/threads/your-grail-scarf.121359/ There are currently 346 pages of people showing their finds and discussing their HG scarves. Now the topic of even discussing these scarves is hotly debated. Some people would just rather not talk about it publicly because it drives prices up. Others are resigned to the fact that certain scarves are already HGs and well, they are already expensive so what the heck? Let's have some fun and talk about them.

Some holy grails stick around on this list forever and some come on and some drop off. It's quite bizarre. I actually think Lumieres de Paris and Pavements used to be on the HG list and now are no longer. I see these scarves priced very reasonably now on evilbay. So you never know! It's like the stock market. LOL. Buy low, sell high. Or don't sell at all and just cherish it. That's what I do.

Also some people have their top secret own HG list. These are scarves that you like or want to own but others don't know about it (yet). Or it's just not on the collective radar. So if you have these scarves on your list, it's actually better not to talk about them openly because you may inadvertently put it on the widely accepted HG list, therefore driving up prices before you can get your hands on one.

OK, are you new scarf collectors thoroughly confused now? :giggle: Sorry - you'll get the hang of it soon.

So here's one of my HGs. I admit I baby this scarf. I don't wear it as often as I should because I can't replace it at a reasonable cost. I've already covered it before on this thread but took it out today just to admire it so decided to write about it (again). Here's the original post #820 http://forum.purseblog.com/threads/...lt-my-collection.924187/page-55#post-29828955 But since the pics are all small now and hard to see, I thought I would repost some new ones. I actually bought it from a lady that didn't know Turandot in blue was a HG scarf. The only other things she was selling was children's toys. If you ever run across this type of seller, pounce on it. It happens every once in awhile - not often though. It's kind of like winning the lotto. And if it's not listed as BIN, just send them a message and ask to BIN and have them end the auction. I would say 98% of people know if they have a HG on their hands. And if you should want the orange Turandot, it's actually not priced too badly generally because most people are unsure if the orange will look good on them. So that's one to snag if you can wear orange and love the design.

Here are some pics of my beloved Turandot. My dream is to go to the Opera one day wearing mine. And hopefully see other ladies also wearing theirs and we can secretly nod at each other like we are in a secret club. This is on my bucket list of things to do. So is chartering a private yacht for a week in the mediterranean. Anyone want to join me? I've shown some accessories here with my turandot. I love my little orange picotin with it. And I like to mix in VCA with my Hermes as well. The blue leather cuff bracelet at the bottom is actually Reed Krakoff. Sadly, that brand is no longer in business. And the white bracelet is Hermes - it's an illusion bracelet. It's fabulous because it's double-sided. The other side of my white one is capucine. :hbeat:

Thanks for joining me. I hope you enjoyed the post.

As further advice to newbies, I would say don't worry about what other people identify as HGs. Look for scarves that suit YOU! Also, people have personal HGs that are highly desirable or meaningful for them, but not necessarily universally popular. Interesting that you mentioned pavements. This was a must have for me, and had high prices when I started looking. Luckily I lost out on an auction that went to astronomic heights. A month later, I found the same scarf for a reasonable price.

This is a lovely, instructive post. Thank you for sharing more photos your blue Turndot. It is gorgeous with your picotin and accessories.
I will join in on the Mediterranean yacht. I can think of an excellent scarf for the occasion :)

MYH, Interesting HG philosophy and your Turandot is spectacular.

scarf1, I absolutely agree. Tohu Bohu is a scarf I very much appreciate and have almost bought a number of times, but giving it serious consideration, I realize that it is just not for me and I'd much rather someone who is going to cherish it end up with it.

Ok great. I'm gonna put you down on the Mediterranean yacht list. :happydance: When we have a decent group of scarfies that want to go, I'll get the trip organized. :coolio:

I totally agree! However, sometimes I have felt this way about a certain scarf...thought about it...tried to make it work in my mind, liked it on others, but it just was not for me. Then suddenly I see it in a different or atypical colorway and suddenly I GET it!
This just happened to me with Tohu Bohu!
