Scarves MYH's Scarf Showcase - and philosophical ramblings about how I built my collection

Well MYH, since I must blame you for my recent obsession with finding a black and white scarf, lol, I thought I would share my purchase on your thread :graucho:
I was wavering between Zenobie, Reine de Palmyre and Collections Imperiales. So, in trying both IRL, I found the CI to be closer to the true B and W look I was hoping for. Although I also loved Zenobie, it read more white than B and W, while the CI was a bit more balanced, despite appearing like it would have too much black. I think having the white medallion in the center and a relatively prominent white border is what balances this design out in this CW. Thank you for letting me share on your thread...although my pocketbook does not thank you at all!!

You made an absolutely fabulous choice my dear Bova and look at you rocking it[emoji7][emoji7]...love the way you have tied it! Super stylish and elegant [emoji173]️[emoji173]️

MYH: have you fallen for anything in the new SS2016 season yet I wonder??
Hi Pirula! No, not yet! It does help that I have seen almost zero new designs in the 140cms beside Sieste au Paradis (but I got a 90cm last season) and was not tempted by any of the colorways. I'm still waiting to see 140cm giant silks. I think I am going to rest on new 90cm and 70cms. But I am interested in some new design twillies so am eagerly waiting for those too.

Myh! I heard about your post on sotd and thought I'd hunt it down. We are twinses! And I saw that you got the special edition from Philly. Me too! I visit that store from time to time because my family is still in the area. All the SAs are so lovely. I wonder if we ever ran into each other without realizing it. Love your 10 motif VCA with it. I've been hinting at that for the longest time with DH and may just have to show him how well it goes with the scarf.
Perfume girl01 - so glad to see you here! Yes, a 10 motif VCA is a great classic to have in your jewelry box. Now I am curious...maybe we did see each other in KOP. But you know, I was always euphoric and lightheaded whenever I stepped foot in there and hardly paid attention to anyone around me. I was totally focused on silks and leathers whenever I would go.

Just discovered this thread. Love the stories and pictures. A Cheval sur mon carre is a HG. Reading this makes me want to go search for one right away.
Oh dear...they are hard to find. Be patient and I hope one finds its way to you. Thank you for commenting and saying you like my stories. Sometimes I feel like I am boring everyone!

I am so delighted you shared! And didn't I pick that one eh? I knew it. :happydance::hugs: It looks so fantastic on you. It is truly stunning. I think you might be enabling me to buy another B&W lol! Now you have your "filler" scarf. The all-purpose do anything, match anything go-to silk.

Yes you did pick this one MYH! It will be very interesting for me to have such a neutral look in my scarf collection...I am so used to adding color/brights through the use of scarves and shawls. Onward to new frontiers right? :graucho:

I'm back with a crowd pleaser today. Since Chinese New Year just passed and it's Opera season at the moment, I thought I would showcase Turandot. I'm sorry or not sorry, definitely one of those options, for the B&W scarf hunt I sent some of you on. But you will thank me in the end! But this one, ack!, is not so easy to find. My hunt was a nerve-wracking one that had a happy ending but I'm not sure if I would have done it all again.

I'm not sure where and when I became obsessed with this scarf. My scarf collecting has lasted a couple of years now and some of it is just a blur. I think I block some of it out because it's kind of crazy how many scarves I own. And to make a little confession....I broke down and just bought a CSGM from H.com that is being delivered Monday. Oy! I wasn't supposed to buy anymore CSGMs, but there you go. Anyway, back to the story, I knew I needed this one. So the online reseller search began in earnest several years back. One day, I see it pop up on evilbay for $425 BIN. Hmmm...was it real? Could I trust the seller? Seriously you guys, her other listings were for cheap toys and car parts (or something like that). No other Hermes items. Nothing in the price range of this scarf. No Hermes stuff in her selling history. And her story in the description was that is was a gift. We've all heard that one before right? The problem is I can never tell if it's true or not. So I watched it and checked on it over a couple of days and it was still sitting there. Was there a reason it was still available after a couple of days? I studied every inch of this scarf using the magnification feature on evilbay and it seemed to check out ok in my eyes. So I decided to take the plunge. I figured I could always open a case if it turned out to be fake. So I bought it and waited...and waited..and waited...she was in the U.S. and it should have taken a couple of days to arrive. I think I must have waited 2 weeks. By the beginning of week 2, I was convinced I had been scammed. Perhaps she never had the scarf. I figured she found some pics online, posted those, and just took my money and intended on sending me nothing! I contacted her and asked about it's whereabouts. She didn't have a tracking number. She told me she sent it and that I should be patient. It will arrive soon. Seriously?!?! No tracking number? Be patient? I was beside myself. And just when I was about to open a case....it arrived. I couldn't believe it. I opened up the package and it was magnificent. It was authentic and in mint (perhaps never used) condition. I was so relieved. I cried tears of joy (I think)! Now if I had to do this all over again, I'm not sure I would. I literally couldn't think about anything else for a whole week while I waited for this scarf to arrive. So I took a chance with a iffy listing and ended up scoring.

Now for the story of Turandot...this princess is really a character. I think TangoTosca probably went over the storyline before in her thread but in a nutshell (from Wikipedia), it is set in China and involves Prince Calaf, who falls in love with the cold Princess Turandot. To obtain permission to marry her, a suitor has to solve three riddles; any wrong answer results in death. Calaf passes the test, but Turandot still refuses to marry him. Poor guy...gotta feel sorry for him. Perhaps not the best story before Valentine's Day. :lolots:

I adore the details in this scarf. The little fish, the peonies. Peonies are my favorite flowers. The color is quite hard to capture but I tried my best. The tough thing about this scarf is the blue. It's tough to find a top that goes with the blues in this scarf. I should make a note to myself to go and buy some nice white T-shirts. I'm not sure why I don't have any? As much as I love this scarf, it does have a downside. The big navy border. I'm not a fan of big borders because much of the design in the middle doesn't show when tying a cowboy knot. But I'm willing to overlook this small flaw for this scarf.

So here she is, one of my most prized possessions....Turandot.

Ok, this is gorgeous MYH, and I just love reading your backstories to your scarf purchases. And by the way, how can you tell us you ordered a new CSGM and not tell us which one??? A surprise perhaps?

What a story! Wow. I would have gone crazy over that. No tracking? But you got quite the deal. It was totally worth it. This is just stunning on you. Someday I'm going to add up what you have cost me on scarves etc. At the top of the list will be Turandot. Thank you once again for your inspiration, and no, you are not boring us. Can't you tell how excited we are for each new post you write? This is my favorite thread. And the most expensive one. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Yes darling! A surprise. I will feature it as soon as I get my paws on it next Monday. I have to do that crazy thing where I wait at home all day just to sign for the package. Ugh!

You are too funny! :lolots: You know it's a two-way street right? You have cost me too! I know...I know...but not as much as I have cost you. But what's a few thousand dollars between friends. LOL! Bwahahaha!

Ok, I will buy you a drink to make it up to you when we see each other next. Love you lots!

And thanks for telling me I am not boring everyone. I will keep telling stories as long as you all want to hear them!

Haha! [emoji23]. Not that crazy! I've stayed home a um,...erm....few times.

Of COURSE you're not boring! We all [emoji173]️ it!

Turandot. I can see myself wanting this one day. I worked for an opera company. Puccini is my favorite (so melodic). I've visited China. Sigh, perhaps one day.

Yours is exquisite.
