Loved reading your post about how scarves bring friends together ... so true. What a lovely experience !!
This Voyages en Etoffes is gorgeous on you. Your thread here about your collex is educational and hilarious. Thanks for sharing and teaching. I have been a member of TPF for many years as a different name. I've mainly lurked the threads about the new season designs. Hope you'll keep posting.

Thank you all for your kind comments about my new "friendship" scarf Voyages en Etoffes. It warms my heart to know so many of you have also made new friendships through the love of H scarves. I guess many of us are cut from the same cloth so to speak. :hugs:

So this next post....I have been looking for this scarf for 2 years. 2 YEARS! I'm not exaggerating....I loved it the moment I first set eyes on it. And I also love it in many different colorways so was pretty open minded during my hunt. I think some of you know...it's Cocottes en Soie. I have a thing for origami. I used to do it as a young girl as a hobby. I didn't have too much trouble begging my mom to buy me origami paper when I was small because it's fairly inexpensive at Michael's or other craft stores and it would keep me quiet for hours. And nowadays as an adult, when my 6 yrs old niece comes over, we fold origami together for fun. A couple of years ago, I had a big Christmas party at our house and I made an entire tree out of just paper origami ornaments. So you see, this scarf is one I must own. I gotta tell you...the more hobbies you have....the more scarves you want to own. It's a problem people.

Here's proof of how crazy I can be about origami ...

Then for my Bday this year, a close friend that's not scarf crazy but understands I am nuts bought me this Hermes scarf book as a pressie. And in the book, is a 2-page spread on Cocottes en Soie. This scarf was haunting me.

I was particularly fond of the blue and purple cw in the book. The only cw I wasn't interested in was the black/white one because I already have so many neutral scarves and wanted something with color. But this design rarely comes up. And if it does - man does it command a premium. I was prepared to pay over retail to own one - but not astronomical figures. So I waited....and waited...and then...I see two black/white ones come up. Ugh...not the cw I was seeking. Then one day...I'm clicking around on Instagram...and I see it. OMG. :eek:Someone is selling theirs and it's in excellent condition. This lady on IG is moving overseas and can't take all her scarves with her so is rehoming a big part of her collex. I send her a message...but I'm not sure if it goes through. So I send her another message. Same thing happened...I wasn't sure if my message went through because I didn't get a message confirmation. So like a crazy person...I sent her one more. Then I get a response back....are you the person that keeps messaging me about my scarf? Oops. Sorry. Didn't mean to harass/stalk you. Umm...is your scarf still available? She says it is! Oh happy Day! We go back and forth a bit on price (she wasn't asking anything outrageous but was a bit higher than I was willing to pay) and then it's done!!!!! My cocottes is on it's way to me. The colorway I got was actually one I had not even realized existed. Because this scarf was issued in 2009 and I was not a collector back then, I wasn't sure what colorways were available. But this one fits my color palette. It's got a dark grey/blue background with colvert/seagreen/chartreuse in it. Here she is reunited with the 2 page spread in my book!

OK, I'm not done yet...here's the funny part. When I was obsessed with finding this scarf, sometimes I would google image search for it to see if a new one had come up for sale and to also research the different cws. So I would punch in cocottes Hermes or cocottes en soie or something like that into my computer and in my image results I would sometimes see photos of nice looking scantily clad women (cough....ones that kind of look like prostitutes). Yeah...you heard me right. So I was scratching my head trying to figure out why so I decide to look up the definition of cocottes. I know it means "hen" so kind of translated it into crane (both birds right) but then I find out it also means 1) a casserole dish and 2) a fashionable prostitute :lol::lol: I swear. Here's my proof.

Hello sweetie!! I'm so happy to see you have joined us here and have come out of lurkdom. I'm blushing at your compliments about my thread but I'm sure there isn't any info here that you don't already know. You are one of a handful of women I consider "Scarf Queens". In my mind, you are always wearing a golden crown. :hugs:

So as I'm trying it on, my friend says that she would like to give it to me as a present. :eek:I'm in shock. I try to protest but she won't hear anything of it and insists she would like to gift it to me. I was so overwhelmed by her generosity and although I am keeping her identity anonymous here, I know she reads this thread and wanted to thank her again publicly! She is a true H angel and is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. We ended up playing and talking until way after dinner yesterday and ended up shutting down the restaurant we ate at because we were having such a good time. They literally had to flicker the lights on and off at us to get us to leave.

I'm really in awe at how a mutual love for beautifully made quality Hermes items has brought so many friendships together. My lovely friend from yesterday is not the only friendship I have made through the internet. She is one of many...I think the number of close friends I have made through a shared love of H is now in the high single digits, maybe even low double digits And as these friendships develop, they do not stay just on the internet. They became true life, get together & see each other friendships and I am so grateful to have found all these lovely men and women. Some live nearby and some live thousands of miles away on another coast. But everyone I have met through Hermes has turned out to be so smart, kind, generous, intelligent, passionate about life, interesting, and the list literally goes on and on. They have become great lunch companions, traveling companions, shopping companions, cocktail companions, dinner companions, and everything else in between. These friendships have been a wonderful addition to my life. And I know I'm not the only one with this experience. I have met many other ladies and gentlemen that have also made great friends through a mutual love of H. It's yet another magical aspect of collecting.

All right...enough of the mushy stuff. Here are some modeling shots. This scarf is just fantastic. Sometimes Annie Faivre scarves overwhelm me with the detail but this one is still in my comfort zone. And each bias fold gives many, many different color combinations. And a quick observation I have about the bias fold...I know everyone knows about the 2 different axes from this fold but I actually think there are 4. Here's what I mean....if you fold your scarf on a bias perfectly and the tips of your tails are perfectly centered, then yes, there are just 2 axes. But if you are a bit of a sloppy folder like me , the tail tips are on the edge of your tail and if you flip your bias fold over, you will get different colors in your scarf. The next two photos are the result of just one bias fold and me just flipping the scarf over to the other side. I hope I have explained this sufficiently and sorry for the huge pics.

I'm late to respond but here I am! This post was truly moving and beautiful. I completely agree with your sentiments and love the story of your get together!

What a wonderful new friend- and the scarf is gorgeous on you!

I love our community of H enthusiasts. MYH- I was just thinking about you yesterday as I purchased another maxi twilly. I showed my store how you taught me to twist the scarf while pulling around the neck, etc. I'm by no means skilled at knots- but it was fun to share pearls of knowledge from you!!

MYH, I am so happy to be sisters with you on this one! I am so glad that you have found this grail and you have told such a wonderful story about how it finally came to be yours.
Your origami Christmas tree is so unexpected and charming. I also came to love this scarf due to warm childhood memories with origami. When I was 11 years old I elected to take Japanese in school and each student was assigned a pen-pal. My pen-pal, Yuki, would send me an origami figure with each letter and I treasured them. We kept in touch for years.
I am also laughing about being bombarded by "prostitute" photos during your quest to find the scarf. This did not happen to me, but I certainly waded through so many listings for Hermes crockery and pots!

Fellow origami enthusiast, MYH! I used to sit in high school classes and make my own squares from 8.5 x 11 paper then spend the class folding away. Sadly I haven't spent much time with it lately. Your origami tree and Cocotte is beautiful!

Congratulation MYH! You certainly earned your Cocottes en Soie, you are an extremely dedicated scarf hunter. We are cousins on CeS I have a blue and got it for the same reason as you searched for yours.

As a long time origami fanatic you tree is a huge inspiration. I'll be doing that this year. Did do origami Christmas cards one year but yours was a much larger project.

Have you seen the packets of Hermes origami paper? They pop up every now and again on eBay but are wildly wildly expensive even if you do manage to find a packet in an Hermes store.

Love your Scarf Showcase thread as it impossible to predict which interesting new area you will investigate next. Thanks you!

Love this story that you have shared regarding this carre!!! I also am an origami lover- and well, you know that my husband-to-be and I just folded over a thousand cranes (senbazuru) for our nuptials next week!!! [emoji173]️

I'm glad you were spared the prostitute pics. Although they were kind of cute french looking ones so it really wasn't all that offensive. That is so cute your penpal included an origami figure in each letter to you. It's kind of sad right with email these days...we miss the excitement of getting a handwritten letter in the mail. I had a penpal too when I was a teenager - she was a gal from Durham in England.

Fellow origami enthusiast, MYH! I used to sit in high school classes and make my own squares from 8.5 x 11 paper then spend the class folding away. Sadly I haven't spent much time with it lately. Your origami tree and Cocotte is beautiful!
Ah yes! When origami paper was scarce, I would make my own too!! Thank you for the sweet compliment about my origami tree. It was a labor of love and I still have all the ornaments and the paper garland in a box in the garage. It was the first year in our new house and I wanted our tree to be magical.

Congratulation MYH! You certainly earned your Cocottes en Soie, you are an extremely dedicated scarf hunter. We are cousins on CeS I have a blue and got it for the same reason as you searched for yours.

Ummm no?? :confused1: You've now given me something new to hunt for? Hermes origami paper? OMG. And thank you for letting me know you are enjoying my thread. Yes - I just write about whatever I feel like that's H related. LOL.

Did you string them all together? Will it be one long garland. Can you take a photo? Can we see? I would love to see. Congrats on your wedding. I'm so happy for you!

It's been a rather strange day - I've felt rather unsettled because of the US elections. I had lunch with a dear friend who has a very calming and serene personality so that helped. But I haven't gotten much done today I will admit.

So I came onto TPF to escape reality (as many of us do ) and saw all your lovely comments about my origami scarf Cocottes de Soie. Thank you! And purple poodles mentioned she has seen Hermes origami paper. What?:eek::eek::eek: Where have I been? How come I did not know about this...so I started to google. And I found the cute little templates Hermes provided for a Jige and a CDC bracelet but what really got my attention was this!

It's from an artist named Yulia Brodskaya. Amazing!!! I just wanted to post it here because it's so beautiful. I don't think it's for sale - just something pretty to share. Naturally, I got curious about her other artwork and if you have some time----look at these. Her portraits are absolutely amazing. I have no affiliation to this artist. I just came across her artwork in google search and thought you all would appreciate it.

I am blown away by her talent. And when I saw her art - I was immediately reminded of paperoles. Were you?

DH and I are just at home chilling with a glass (or two) of wine so I will keep posting. I've been gone for too long and I think the floodgates are opening. As long as you all are enjoying my random thoughts - I'll keep going.

Jumping to another topic - twilly organization. You know the small cylindrical boxes they come in? Super cute right? But...I do not like how the twilly is curled up in there and only the edges show. I have too many twillies now and cannot figure out which one is in there by popping the lid off. OK, so for a long time, I stored them flat and all lined up in a drawer. But every time I closed the drawer, they would all slide towards the back. :whut::whut::whut: I found this very displeasing.

So I''m racking my brain the other day for what would be a perfect solution for twilly storage and I thought of this....a bead organizer...the type you find in craft stores like Michael's or Joann's. So I dumped all my beads out (barely use them anymore anyways and my niece can sift through a ziplock bag if she wants to make something), cleaned out the organizer, and voila!!! They fit perfectly!! And I can see them all at once!

I thought I would share in case any of you want to adopt this method. It's so efficient and the whole thing fits perfectly into my shallow drawer in my closet. And the lid even closes too and keeps the dust out!! Only problem is...I need a bigger one. I'm at max capacity. :facepalm:IMG_5591.JPG

Another brilliant (and beautiful) post! Thanks for sharing it. I feel the same about the circular boxes...what is in there??
Also charming to realize there are so many origami enthusiasts among H fans. It makes sense; little beautiful things with a story behind them.

Also, speaking of the H origami paper, QuelleFromage posted that she has the scented H origami horses. I am not sure if she has posted photos but here is a picture of one on sale at Bloomingdales. It looks like they are over 5" tall!

I would love to see some of your photos if you have ever made origami horses yourself :)

Dear MYH!
Today I felt like I really needed one of those "escapes out of reality" moments, and just like you write on your post, I leaped into the PF to indulge. AND I must say I had this exact thread as my goal! I have been willing to catch up on you for some weeks now, and today was just the right moment! Imagine my delight when I found not only so many wonderful and entertaining stories and pictures, but also you finding "my" avatar!
Thank You for this "great escape"... now I will be going back "out there" feeling much better =)
And major congrats on your Cocottes! I know just how hard to find this one is... and you scored such an unusual cw... wow!!!
Silky hugs!
P.
