Scarves MYH's Scarf Showcase - and philosophical ramblings about how I built my collection

So as I'm trying it on, my friend says that she would like to give it to me as a present. :eek:I'm in shock. I try to protest but she won't hear anything of it and insists she would like to gift it to me. I was so overwhelmed by her generosity and although I am keeping her identity anonymous here, I know she reads this thread and wanted to thank her again publicly! She is a true H angel and is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. We ended up playing and talking until way after dinner yesterday and ended up shutting down the restaurant we ate at because we were having such a good time. They literally had to flicker the lights on and off at us to get us to leave.

I'm really in awe at how a mutual love for beautifully made quality Hermes items has brought so many friendships together. My lovely friend from yesterday is not the only friendship I have made through the internet. She is one of many...I think the number of close friends I have made through a shared love of H is now in the high single digits, maybe even low double digits And as these friendships develop, they do not stay just on the internet. They became true life, get together & see each other friendships and I am so grateful to have found all these lovely men and women. Some live nearby and some live thousands of miles away on another coast. But everyone I have met through Hermes has turned out to be so smart, kind, generous, intelligent, passionate about life, interesting, and the list literally goes on and on. They have become great lunch companions, traveling companions, shopping companions, cocktail companions, dinner companions, and everything else in between. These friendships have been a wonderful addition to my life. And I know I'm not the only one with this experience. I have met many other ladies and gentlemen that have also made great friends through a mutual love of H. It's yet another magical aspect of collecting.

All right...enough of the mushy stuff. Here are some modeling shots. This scarf is just fantastic. Sometimes Annie Faivre scarves overwhelm me with the detail but this one is still in my comfort zone. And each bias fold gives many, many different color combinations. And a quick observation I have about the bias fold...I know everyone knows about the 2 different axes from this fold but I actually think there are 4. Here's what I mean....if you fold your scarf on a bias perfectly and the tips of your tails are perfectly centered, then yes, there are just 2 axes. But if you are a bit of a sloppy folder like me , the tail tips are on the edge of your tail and if you flip your bias fold over, you will get different colors in your scarf. The next two photos are the result of just one bias fold and me just flipping the scarf over to the other side. I hope I have explained this sufficiently and sorry for the huge pics.

Happy Sunday everyone! DH and I are spending a lazy day around the house and I thought now would be the perfect time to update this thread.

I have something new to share and the story behind it is SO special. I recently made a new friend, another H enthusiast, on the internet of all places. I know...it sounds slightly dangerous but don't worry - we communicated back and forth for a very long time and the first time we met was in a public place. It's a bit like dating but not with another man, with another H collector! LOL! She is the lady that was in Picotin cohoots with me and I went to her house yesterday to deliver her new etain baby. We had set up a H closet playdate and when I went to her house, I found that she had spread out about 50 scarves and shawls for me to play with. Seriously, H heaven.:loveeyes::loveeyes: She has all the grails...exLenK shawl, classic ex Libris in black and oatmeal shawl, the Damier shawl, and scarves and twillies going back years and years. I saw twillies I didn't even know were made in a certain design. And the scarves she had put out...they are only a very small subset of her collection. Faint!!!

My eyes were immediately drawn to the scarves that had a lot of red/ruby/dark red because as you know....I'm now on the hunt for accessories for my rouge grenat picotin. She had the red/fuchsia cw of coupons indiens. Loved it! So as I was gleefully playing with her silks, she says to me....oh I have a scarf that you might like. It's Voyage en Etoffes in the red cw. Really? I'm so intrigued. I have always loved the idea of a scarf with different kimonos on it. And I have seen this design listed on evilbay in various cws but it's an Annie Faivre, and her scarves are beautiful but very detailed and the beauty of her designs are hard to capture in a photo. Really, when you stand back and take a photo of the entire scarf, the beauty is lost because the details become very small and it somehow kind of becomes a series of swirls and designs that meld together. So she disappears into her scarf vault and comes out with this beauty!! I know...this picture does not do it justice. But do you see what I mean about the details being lost? Also, I'm sorry about the black bars on top and below my photos. The only way I can get my photos to load is to take a screenshot of them on my phone because I get a message saying the files are too big for the server. Does anyone know how to change the settings on an iPhone so the photos taken are a smaller file size?

So here are some closeups: First- my favorite kimono on the scarf. It's in the lower right corner.

Adore! Perfection with your rouge grenat Picotin. A new friend and a new scarf makes for a very good weekend report.

What a wonderful story MYH, your new H friend has gifted you a truly perfect scarf to add to your collection. And I can easily second your sentiment to having met some truly wonderful people through this forum, those that I would consider friends. We are all very lucky to share in this community! Thank you again for the time you take to share your thoughts about friendship all things H!! :hugs:

This is so beautiful on you! What a precious friend to think of you with this special silk! I loved reading your story, too. Friends that share the love of Hermes are extra special. I have met the friendliest people from this forum.
Have a lovely Sunday!

Perfection!!! and what a sweet gesture from your friend!!

So glad you are back with your enthralling stories. I mean it! Your narratives are so spellbinding. You must have been a bard or a sorceress in another life.

What a fun surprise and the perfect scarf for you - we see you already have a choice of accessories!

A lovely, thoughtful and memorable silk to celebrate friendship, I especially related to your story as I have made some truly beautiful friends through tpf. A dear friend and I exchanged silks and I treasure that little mousseline more than my others. Enjoy and it looks beautiful on you.
