^^ No offense, but isn't 3 0r 4 carats huge (although not necessarily ostentatious, depending on the cut)? Queen Elizabeth II has a 3 carat engagement ring and I would say that that is really quite a large size, considering most women in the US still have only .33 carats on average.

Hope you get it, though.

I'm nowhere near getting engaged sadly, but from pictures I've seen, round cuts are very much "me." If money were no object, I still wouldn't want a huge, ostentatious diamond. A solid 3-4 carats, fabulous quality (of course) would be nice. :p

I have a cushion cut diamond and I love it. It has all the sparkle of a round but is a bit more unique in shape.

That is my favorite too. My personality fits that though :p

I'll keep my teensy round brilliant, it's sentimental to me. Every time I look at it I remember when DH asked me to marry him, 27years ago.

However, I'd take the emerald cut from the post a little bit above. above fora RHR. I always think emerald cuts look so elegant, especially in simple settings.

I also have a secret fondness for large marquise stones, although they are the opposite of emerald cuts. Very ostentatious.

I must have a split personality.

I think so, yes. When I think ostentatious though, I think 6 carats and above, although I'm sure the cut has a lot to do with it. It's my own silly personal distinction, with no real "diamond expert" basis. :p My mom's diamond looks huge to me and it's a little over two carats. I wasn't exactly answering this after putting a great deal of thought into it... it's all in fun, no? :smile1: I sincerely meant no offense to those who have smaller diamonds, or those who have bigger ones. To be honest, I could care less about the size of the diamond... that's really not my thing. :smile1: The intention behind it and the man, of course, would make all the difference in the world for me. :smile1: I'm not holding my breath for any diamonds right now anyway haha. :smile1:

It sounds absolutely stunning! I think round and cushion cut (not that I've looked into either... especially the latter) are my very favorite cuts. :smile1: I know for a fact that I wouldn't want anything else (no square, marquise, etc. for me) if given a choice. :smile1:

I pretty much have my dream ring{s}
I do want a slightly different band for my stone though.
Once in a while when DH is trying to butter me up he'll say something like
"I'll buy you a bigger diamond if . . . . "
and I keep telling him he's on the wrong track! LOL! I don't wan a bigger one anymore I'm completely satisfied!

It's all in fun, no one thought you were being offensive. I'm sorry if I came off as if I did. I just thought it was funny (like, amusing) to hear 3 carats called 'not huge'--it was just an observation. I was sincere at the end when I said, I hope you get exactly the diamond you want. If it turns out to be six carats, that's just fine with me and I hope you enjoy it, seriously I do.

But I will think its SUPER-huge.

Post photos of your mom's stone if you ever get a chance--it must seriously rock.

:bump:

If money was no problem then i would love a 3 Stone Round Diamond Harry Winston engagment ring.

I like the Oval & Round Brilliant Cut diamond rings not the Emerald-Cut one in the middle.

If money was not object, I'd get a naturally colored diamond - probably canary yellow. Maybe a 2 carat solitaire and some white diamonds on both the engagement ring and the wedding band.
