siennachanel, i don't think there are any Asha retailers in hong kong.

leilaniRL, miadonna simulants are actually asha stones at retail prices. if you purchased directly from betterthandiamond.com, it's a lot cheaper.

oh, as an update... here's my 1ct Asha Old European Cut ring.

blingaholic- I LOVE that! I am such a fan of the older cuts. The setting is so pretty too! I am really starting to think that when I get engaged I (and I say when b/c I know he has to be out there!) I will just do Asha or Moissanite, unless I go the route of just a band for an e-ring. It just kind of makes sense to me- I don't know that I could be comfortable knowing that the guy spent however much when there is still an outstanding mortgage, car loan, etc. that it could be applied to.

Hi Bling [waving]! I agree that the asha's are the best sim available! I had the pleasure of comparing an asha OEC to a diamond OEC and it was very, very convincing.

Sometimes I think I would have been satisfied with a simulant as well, because I think that it really is the thought that counts. But I didn't know the BF was going to propose, and he and I never shopped for rings as a couple, so since we had never talked about engagement jewelry at all, I smiled and enjoyed what I was given. People talk bad about simulants, and sometimes I think that there is a stigma, but...I also think that women and their partners should wear/buy what they want and not be judged for it. After all, many, many couples have found a "smarter" use for their hard-earned money than diamonds. So...wear those diamond "alternatives" with pride!

Blingaholic, I don't know much about simulants other than CZ (I have a few pieces, mostly in earrings), but I love that ring.

The way I see it, you have to decide why you like diamonds. I can think of the following reasons:
1. You like to wear something expensive as a status symbol.
2. You like the glimmer and look as an accessory.
3. You like it because it is rare which makes it special.

In response to those reasons (in same order):

1. Get a diamond or something to show your status. Money isn't an issue right.

2. Moissanite and Asha have more visual effects per dollar per item. Moissanite has green in it so the bigger the carat, the more green the light will have to go through.
Asha has a diamond coat on its surfaces that reflect light. The void/mass of crystal inbetween the reflective sides is cubic zirconia or a similar element which means that it is clear and there will be no color as in Moissanite even if you get a large carat. The void/filling of a diamond between the reflective surfaces does nothing for color unless it is a cloudy diamond which isn't very popular anyway.
So it all comes down to the reflective surfaces of a diamond which make a diamond so attractive and in that case Asha has the most valuable aspect of a diamond which is: diamond surfaces. (the surface is literally coated/infused with micoscopic diamond particles which produces a layer of diamond that covers the whole surface of the clear core (which is CZ or similar). The fact that it is CZ doesn't make a difference, the point is that it is clear and doesn't detract from or ruin the light being reflected from the diamond surfaces.

3. Moissanite is more rare in nature than Diamond however that is naturally occuring Moissanite. Lab-made Moissanite is only as rare as it is produced. Asha is an intelligent way of taking the best parts about diamond (visually) and achieving it through technology. So likewise, Lab-made Moissanite and Asha are no more rare than a lab-made diamond.

Diamonds are the rarest of these 3 but if sentimental value is the reason you want something, It's probably more meaningful to have a personal message engraved or a custom design than just the fact that 'someone around the world used industrial tools to locate this diamond, it is rare because if we didn't have such tools to locate and extract them not many people would have them'. Rare is a term which is relative to the technology and knowledge we have. Who knows, in a thousand years maybe we can fly to a world made of diamond and on that world cheeseburgers are considered rare.
At present, diamonds aren't exactly as common as ants however you can easily obtain one if you have the money for it. Infact I'm sure there are more people with diamonds than there are with Moissanite or Asha, just because that's the way it has been over the last century with jewellery.

My conclusion is, decide why you want a diamond or a gemstone. Don't trap yourself in a corner of thought about it and think "but it's not natural so it's bad", think about why you like diamonds and then devise a reason as to why you want one. If it looks good or satisfies the reason as to why you want it, then who cares if some grumpy fart wants to waste their time telling the world that your stone isn't a diamond. We know it isn't a diamond, did we say it was? It looks better than most of the diamonds I could afford so...what that person is saying that if diamond had a stage where it looked like mud, the fact it is a diamond would make that person wear mud? yeah..... So in the end, decide why you want a diamond and enjoy whatever you choose because it's yours to enjoy.

On another note:
Women wear makeup to 'enhance' their beauty. I don't think many people complain about it being unnatural if the woman is beautiful with makeup. Likewise if a woman wears too much makeup it can appear out of place. The same goes for a gemstone that sparkles too much, it might seem out of place.

Interestingly, I have 3 Moissanite e-ring style rings, and only the smallest one has a (vsible to me) green tinge to it, that I don't like very well. The others look to me quite white/clear:shrugs: It is around 1 ct equivalent, and the other ones are 3-4 ct equivalent

Gee I'm random. No matter how many days pass and I think I've corrected all the mistakes in my text I always find mistakes or realise that what I wrote is hard to understand. "Diamonds are the rarest of these 3" when I wrote that I meant Natural diamonds are rarer than Asha or Moissanite in the sense that Natural Diamonds need to be found and Asha or Moissanite are only as rare as they are made.

If you want the care instructions for Asha you can get them at:
http://betterthandiamond.com/education/guide.php

So pretty much if you treat the stone as a CZ and tell any jeweller that wants to work with it this then there should never be any issue with chipping/peeling.

It's a jewell not a nail to bash or a grinding stone. If the Stone is intact when you recieve it yet someone still manages to damage their Asha then I can only imagine they exposed it to too much heat or let it get hit by an impact. Both of these situations = fail.

^Hi! May I ask where you got them?

I've been thinking about getting 1.5ctw earrings, so .75 each, in either Asha or Moissanite. I thought I'd get over it but here I am a year later still thinking about it! I've never seen asha or moissanite (except the terrible jcpenny ones) in person so I'm not sure which to choose. I've had cz ones (nordstroms) but they fog up and dull in a few months with daily wear. I plan to wear them everyday but I'm concerned about the color tint on moissanite, which people say shows up on larger stones. With Asha I'm concerned it wont be shiny enough or will do the same as my cz. Id purchase both and see but they charge a restocking fee of about $30 on each. The Asha are about $300 and moissanite $600, diamond is about $5,000. Pricewise...... I wonder if the moissanite is $600 good.

You should order the Asha. If you don't like the earrings you have 40 days to return them for a full refund (minus shipping I think). There is no restock fee on earrings.

The platinum martinis are fabulous. I just received my first pair of Asha plat martini's today!!! I promptly put my diamond earrings in the safe. :)
