How does this even make a lick of sense? Missoni actually designed targets items and are receiving profit from them. It is so not the same thing, come on! Missoni for Target is not counterfeit! :p

Um, yes I'm quite aware that Missoni for Target is not counterfeit. I was referring to the quality of Missoni for Target vs orange label Missoni as being cheap vs. quality. That's where the comparison for fake vs. authentic handbags came in. Wow! I didn't know that some people actually take things so literally..... :roflmfao:

But, couldn't you say that the Birkin is starting to be seen alot more and is losing the exclusivity that it may have once had? The same goes for LV. The fakes of course contribute to that, but still. I see LVs ALL the time, but that wouldn't stop me from buying one. I buy them because I like the brand and history behind it- not because it's exclusive or because some people can't have it.

I do agree that Birkin's and LV's are beginning to lose their exclusivity & that some of this is due to fake's. I still buy them as well because I love the look & quality. :smile1:

I've been wearing Missoni, orange label-collections, for well over a decade. And as for Missoni selling out, I don't necessarily see it that way. It's not like it's a permanent line at Target. Missoni isn't the first designer to end up at Target. Throughout the late 80s and early 90s I wore Issac Mizrahi-collection. Mizrahi also ended up at Target. And there have been others and will be others.

I went into Target, some days after the Missoni line was introduced, but it was all gone. I was curious to see how it looked. Then last weekend I went into Nordstrom, at The Grove, where they have the Missoni orange label-collection. I was curious as to what new pieces had come in.

As I was leaving Nordstrom, there was a woman standing in the shoe department and was wearing three Missoni pieces which were obviously Missoni for Target. It was the first I had seen of it, but knew immediately that it was the Target line. I recognized it just as I would recognize someone wearing "M" Missoni. I've never been fond of "M" Missoni, but there are those who like it. So, something for everyone. C'est la vie!

I like your post!! ;)

I don't have high end clothing, since I'm a stay at home mom right now, but the target line isn't cheap, it's actually well-made, especially the knits. It's affordable, and very nice. Most of the people I see shopping in target are dressed casually, so the target line will fit their lifestyle. Women in Neiman Marcus or Bergdorf buying high end missoni are not going to care what is being sold in target. It's a different market and having a target line just makes fashion exciting and brings fashion to everyone, which is great.

Well, unfortunately for us, in this conversation, I was not able to see you roll your eyes as you made that statement.

For future reference, when most people say/type something, they mean it. Just a little bit of advice for a newbie ;)

i own quite a bit of missoni - including home furnishings, and clothes (mostly m missoni in clothes - i prefer this line to their other lines). i was thrilled when i first heard about the target-missoni collaboration. to be honest, i was very impressed with the quality and look of the products. sure, there is a quality difference between the target line and the more expensive line. but that difference is reflected in the substantially lower prices. needless to say - i went absolutely nuts purchasing clothes for my daughter, the patio set, even a bicycle! i still love and will continue to buy the higher-priced missoni products and i still love target (even with their online mistakes - i have yet to receive some of the items i ordered on the first/second days!)!

Yes, Karl Lagerfeld did do a colab with Macy's I think. But, the items he produced for Macy's were nothing like the Chanel line! Very obvious differences. The only time I question collaborations is when a company makes similar looking items but then price them way cheaper than the original brand. I wear Missoni because, I believe, the line is unique, beautiful, and of high quality. Making lower quality items for Target that look similar to some of their other pieces is poor judgement, in my opinion. To me, it's almost like someone buying a fake Chanel, Gucci, etc and parading it around.

Actually, I own Chanel clothing, and I found a few of the Macy's items to be very Chanel-like in the use of tweeds, etc. I didn't see any of the items in person and only took a brief look online, so I can't comment on specific features. It would be difficult for a designer to NOT put some of their signature looks in a collab. I assume that is what the retail partners were looking for in the collaboration. What would be the point otherwise?

And people who really know a brand well, and own several pieces of the brand's various lines produced across decades, will see differences...(not to mention the fact that it would be impossible to produce identical items at such different price points--Chanel's clothing is still beautiful quality, imo, for the most part--unlike some other brands)

How can an item designed and signed-off on by the original designer be like a fake?:weird:

Really, disappointed in the attitude of some people...the Target line was not CHEAP. There were some really nice pieces that were produced for a decent pricepoint. It was totally ruined by the people who hoarded 1000's of dollars worth of merchandise only to release it on Ebay. Boo!

I think the problem was that the items sold so fast, that people did not get to see them in person (except for the less-desirable items that remained in stores). I had a pretty short wish list on this collab (relative to the amount I would buy now if I could find it at retail). After I saw some of the items that I did not originally want (I thought the colors were too bright and they didn't really look like Missoni in the ads) in person, I was amazed at how nice they were. And I bought them too.;)

Wanting something not everyone has is the exact definition of elitist.

ita!--particularly when you want something because it is an item that you think not everyone can afford.

Also, as I mentioned before, I have been to events where nearly every woman there was carrying a Birkin. It was like everyone wearing the same dress at prom :nogood:. I don't like to look like everyone else (and this does happen when wearing very expensive items too). And I don't like everyone around me knowing how much everything on my person costs.

btw-for anyone who hasn't found it yet--one of my favorite threads is "Hermes and Cheap clothing." Some of those ladies make Target and Walmart dresses look like amazing fashion. :D

I know a few woman who shop in NM and BG and buy the high-end Missoni and Missoni Home items, and they loved the Target collection too. But I also agree that the women who only buy the high-end label (and always buy at full price), could probably care less that Missoni did a line for Target....that is if they are even aware of it.;)

Ahh, you got the patio set. I still wish I'd purchased that-lol. I've now found three different spots for it. :D

Yeah, I'm not so sure about the major differences between all M Missoni and the "orange label." I have items from both that are pretty similar looking....and I have M Missoni from years ago that looks very different from M Missoni now. I think if you are a true Missoni fanatic, you probably like all different kinds of Missoni products;)...as you obviously do.

I guess if I had a staff and never did anything like grocery shopping, etc., and only went to pretty formal places, then I may have no need for the Missoni for Target clothes. But I read a few stories about women who spent several thousands of dollars on the Target collection, and I'm willing to bet they owned a lot of Missoni before this collab.

I haven't seen any of the Target pieces in person but a few of the ladies have stated that they're in, no way, like original Missoni. In reality, I doubt they would be since original Missoni pieces are, truly, luxurious & you get what you pay for with those items.

I own quite a few Missoni orange label and their M by Missoni line of clothing. I've been their fan for over 18 years, and there is no way a devoted Missoni fan would mistaken the Target brand from the original. There is so much difference in the quality of the original pieces (delicate & intricate...) vs. the Target line that our "trained eye" would spot the deviation right away. I was actually glad that Missoni did this collaboration, so now, there are a lot more people who are aware of the brand, and I would absolutely wear their orange label & M line with pride.

As for the Target pieces, I admit I was caught in the frenzy and bought a few pieces just for fun. It's more of an adrenaline rush seeing things in the store, and wanting to purchase them right away cos they are "very limited" and "sought after". :graucho: It's all part of the fun, and I enjoy hunting for the priced pieces.

I'm also a BV fanatic, and to confuse this brand with Cole Hann is insane...
