MISSONI for Target?

I haven't seen any of the Target pieces in person but a few of the ladies have stated that they're in, no way, like original Missoni. In reality, I doubt they would be since original Missoni pieces are, truly, luxurious & you get what you pay for with those items.

Actually, I have an M Missoni dress that is made very similarly to two of the Target pieces I have seen--namely the maxi dress and one of the short shift dresses. They all have an almost identical slip liner (that I always found annoying on the M Missoni pieces). The main differences to me are the quality of construction (the M Missoni piece is made in Italy and the patterns are lined up perfectly), the desingn is more intricate/complicated, and the fabric content is different.

However, for the price difference, I think the Target line is a great alternative. And I purchased several pieces of the Target line (as did my relative who also bought a few main line pieces recently). I plan on wearing my Target pieces to places I would not wear my other Missoni pieces.

We both think that the Missoni family did a great job of translating their designs into a more affordable line. With that said, I still find their orange label knits really amazing and truly luxurious.;)

Thanks for your post! I'm glad that I'm not the only one who feels this way, although I have had some comments on another thread of someone accusing me of being "elitist". I had no intention of coming across that way!

Oh goodness. Cmon now. No one called you "elitist". Here is your post from the other thread (the bolded is what I responded to):

BUT, that's exactly what high priced, beautiful designer items are made for, an elite group of people who can afford them! You don't have to be rich to afford designer items-some people have to save up for that awesome, $3000 Chanel bag. It makes it that much more special when your able to actually buy it! If everyone in the world was able to walk around with a coveted Chanel or LV it would make me much less likely to buy them!!

My response:

Um...I wouldn't consider people who have designer bags "elite". A bag doesn't define that. Anyway, perhaps you should keep these comments in your new thread and leave us at peace with our thread over here! Keep the drama at bay

Like I said in that thread, let's just not start drama. Okay? :smile1:

Every company has own business strategy so if it's mistake or not, they'd decided that creating a Target line would be good for them. I'm sure they must have had a lot of fun thinking how they could keep cost down without ruining the brand image.
I'll bet company like Chanel will never do this because their interest is how their "C" logo can be sold higher than previous season.

Irony is that right now there are 20,744 Missoni for Target items on eBay and you can actually find many non-target Missoni with really good prices.

I just wonder if the ebay prices will drop like on the past collections in a few mths

Chanel is far too busy trying to become the next Hermes to worry about a Target collaboration.

And besides -- with the price increases every month, a Chanel for Target line wouldn't be attainable for the general public anyway! ;)

I don't think Chanel will make lower priced items. I purchased the classic flap 4 years ago and it's now 1400 more. I mean......that's a better return than my Apple stock. :)

Chanel could easily do a Target line with costume jewelry and tweedy flaps. I mean the regular costume jewelry has only gone up in price and down in quality anyways. I love Chanel but I'm over the priceing. Its nuts.

As for Missoni, I love the Target line. It got me to try out some colors/prints I wouldn't have and I ended up ordering regular Missoni towels because of it. I also remember being younger and loving fashion but not having the funds. I think its great people have so many options now.

I think that the actual Missoni for Target items themselves were cheap and something I would never personally be interested in; however, to say that you are not interested in wearing something you were once enamored with simply because a less expensive line was produced comes off as rather pretentious. So basically you are saying that you only liked Missoni because the label is expensive and not everyone can have it? :shrugs: That is how I am interpreting this -- correct me if I am wrong!

I'm absolutely not saying that I "liked Missoni because the label is expensive and not everyone can have it". Chanel suits and other various pieces of their clothing line are very expensive and I do not like them @ all. I like Missoni because they produce unique items that not everyone else wears! Well they used to.....now anyone can just go to Target and get a "Missoni" dress or scarf. BUT, I will say that I believe people buy designer items because they think they're buying something "special". If everyone could go out and buy a $15,000 Hermes bag they wouldn't be so coveted and cherished and there probably wouldn't be a forum dedicated to them!

I haven't seen the Target items so I don't know if they're cheap, etc but I'll take your word on it.

Have you ever considered that perhaps many of us purchase designer goods because of the quality?

Well at least the M Missoni pieces do have the more intricate design. Like I posted earlier, I haven't seen any of the Target pieces in person so I can't compare. I'm glad we both enjoy the luxury of their orange label. Oh, & the slips in the M Missoni dresses annoy me too!! :smile1:

I, actually, wasn't referring to you when I made the "elite" comment. I was referring to someone who posted in another forum about my post and said something along the lines of, "sometimes the elitist attitudes on this form annoy me".

I agree with you, def do not want to start drama! ;)
