MISSONI for Target?

I hope the pieces at Target were not the same quality as the true Missoni.

I highly doubt it. To SOME degree, retail prices are based on cost.

I think that the actual Missoni for Target items themselves were cheap and something I would never personally be interested in; however, to say that you are not interested in wearing something you were once enamored with simply because a less expensive line was produced comes off as rather pretentious. So basically you are saying that you only liked Missoni because the label is expensive and not everyone can have it? :shrugs: That is how I am interpreting this -- correct me if I am wrong!

I think this collaboration did not water down the Missoni line at all. I do have some of the Orange Label "Made in Italy" scarves and yes...there is a difference (one would expect that!). But this line did not disappoint.

I think it speaks volumes about the Missoni family and their great quality control over the items licensed. And I think the broader appeal is that they had a vast range of items to choose from and coordinate with. I understand there were over 400 pieces of merchandise and most items very top quality (especially for a "Target" item).

I have seen the spill over effect... Missoni items on other sites selling out quickly. Great marketing!

And some ladies in the Wardrobe forum report that someone asked (when they are wearing a "real" Missoni) ..."Is that Missoni for Target?" And they just smile and have the confidence that it really does not matter.

In the end... it's all just fashion anyway. :smile1:

BTW - Some of the other past collaborations I have seen were really disappointing and I wouldn't buy them either. Let's hope Missoni sets a new precedent!

I don't think it is elitist to want something that not everyone has. I have always been that way.

I don't get some of the comments along the lines of ..'now that missoni sold out to target I don't even or won't even wear my missoni orange label or m missoni anymore..'

I think anyone who, buys items for the love of brand, quality and look would not care. I think it sounds foolish. If you were comfortable in your own skin, and wear your items because you think they look good, why would it matter..? lol

Also, there where a few comments on oohh chanel would never do this.. ect. Didn't Karl Lagerfeld just do a colab with a major department store in the US?

i'm with you regarding this.
it shouldn't matter.. if you carry it well and wear fashion with confidence, a $50 dress will look like a million bucks.. and vice versa.

and yeah, Karl did a collaboration with Macy's Impulse department.

OMG that made me crack up :roflmfao: "elite group of people" I'm not elite, I'm 21 years old and can afford a Chanel (and own many!) does not make me "elite"!

Maybe an "elite group of people" was the wrong terminology to use. Perhaps I should've used the word "exclusive". And, if you think about it, that's exactly who Chanel, Hermes, and other premier designers cater to....an "exclusive" or "elite" group of the general population who can afford their items!! In no way am I saying I'm "better" or "more elite" than someone who can't afford these items for heavens sake! :p

I think this worked in Missoni's favour more than Target's. Everyone now knows about Missoni and there are tons of sales for the real Missoni scarves right now online and in stores. Target definitely messed up when it comes to their handling of their online and in stores sales since it looks like a lot of items ended up on Ebay. But there seems to be more interest in Missoni on its own and all the publicity is good for them regardless.

Yes, Karl Lagerfeld did do a colab with Macy's I think. But, the items he produced for Macy's were nothing like the Chanel line! Very obvious differences. The only time I question collaborations is when a company makes similar looking items but then price them way cheaper than the original brand. I wear Missoni because, I believe, the line is unique, beautiful, and of high quality. Making lower quality items for Target that look similar to some of their other pieces is poor judgement, in my opinion. To me, it's almost like someone buying a fake Chanel, Gucci, etc and parading it around.

I do agree that more people know about Missoni now. Perhaps that will be a good thing & more people will buy the original line!

I'm absolutely not saying that I "liked Missoni because the label is expensive and not everyone can have it". Chanel suits and other various pieces of their clothing line are very expensive and I do not like them @ all. I like Missoni because they produce unique items that not everyone else wears! Well they used to.....now anyone can just go to Target and get a "Missoni" dress or scarf. BUT, I will say that I believe people buy designer items because they think they're buying something "special". If everyone could go out and buy a $15,000 Hermes bag they wouldn't be so coveted and cherished and there probably wouldn't be a forum dedicated to them!

I haven't seen the Target items so I don't know if they're cheap, etc but I'll take your word on it.

Really, disappointed in the attitude of some people...the Target line was not CHEAP. There were some really nice pieces that were produced for a decent pricepoint. It was totally ruined by the people who hoarded 1000's of dollars worth of merchandise only to release it on Ebay. Boo!

How does this even make a lick of sense? Missoni actually designed targets items and are receiving profit from them. It is so not the same thing, come on! Missoni for Target is not counterfeit! :p

But, couldn't you say that the Birkin is starting to be seen alot more and is losing the exclusivity that it may have once had? The same goes for LV. The fakes of course contribute to that, but still. I see LVs ALL the time, but that wouldn't stop me from buying one. I buy them because I like the brand and history behind it- not because it's exclusive or because some people can't have it.

Wow. Really? xxxx

That is the ONLY reason I would pay the higher price for these items. And I'm finding more and more that some luxury brands have turned into just "labels" and the quality is not there anymore. But for the ones that continue to produce quality goods, I think the price is justified. ;)

Yea, let's talking about how my LV's leather handle is PEELING after only a few months of buying it brand new. I love LV but I think the quality is slipping. I also don't think that something HAS to be a designer-name to be of great quality. If anything, this Missoni for Target line has been sort of eye opening to me. The quality is pretty darn good for a $50 dress.

I actually shop at Target for alot of my clothes, TBH. I think they have some great, stylish, things for super cheap. The Missoni line was just another great line that Target sold.

Does anyone here watch "The Bachelor"? If so, Emily Maynard (winner of Brad's season) comes to mind. I read her interviews, and she is the one that got me hooked on Target. She mostly buys all of her clothes from Target or Forever 21, and will pair it with CLs and Chanel bags. She seriously looks amazing in what she wears, and it's crazy to think the outfit itself only cost her $20 or so! If you style it right and carry yourself with confidence, it will look like a $1000 outfit. She actually wore a bandage dress on the show that I thought was HL, but it was Forever 21! (I then proceeded to buy the dress off her charity auction! :graucho:) But, anyway, she is a perfect example of dressing cheaply but making it look great!

I've been wearing Missoni, orange label-collections, for well over a decade. And as for Missoni selling out, I don't necessarily see it that way. It's not like it's a permanent line at Target. Missoni isn't the first designer to end up at Target. Throughout the late 80s and early 90s I wore Issac Mizrahi-collection. Mizrahi also ended up at Target. And there have been others and will be others.

I went into Target, some days after the Missoni line was introduced, but it was all gone. I was curious to see how it looked. Then last weekend I went into Nordstrom, at The Grove, where they have the Missoni orange label-collection. I was curious as to what new pieces had come in.

As I was leaving Nordstrom, there was a woman standing in the shoe department and was wearing three Missoni pieces which were obviously Missoni for Target. It was the first I had seen of it, but knew immediately that it was the Target line. I recognized it just as I would recognize someone wearing "M" Missoni. I've never been fond of "M" Missoni, but there are those who like it. So, something for everyone. C'est la vie!
