MISSONI for Target?

Actually, the irony of the whole thing is that I CANNOT just go and buy the Target pieces that I want. I haven't seen them in person either and I may never see them in person-- (I refuse to pay M Missoni prices for the Target line and that is what some of the pieces are selling for on ebay). They are too hard to obtain. The crazy thing about this collab is that some of the pieces seem to be more coveted than main line Missoni. I don't understand it. I know I have gone through much more trouble to get the few items of the Target line that I have, than I have for any of my other Missoni pieces. :confused1::laugh:

As for exclusivity, I went to a function earlier this year where at least 95% of the women there were carrying Birkins. You would have stood out in a positive manner, imo, if you were carrying a Walmart bag. ;)

Also, this is only the second designer collab that I have bought anything from--and the other one wasn't at Target. I'm staying away from their collabs in the future. It would be much less stressful for me to just go and by more "regular" Missoni. :D

:goodpost: very well said!!

That is the ONLY reason I would pay the higher price for these items. And I'm finding more and more that some luxury brands have turned into just "labels" and the quality is not there anymore. But for the ones that continue to produce quality goods, I think the price is justified. ;)

again... agree totally!!!

And some ladies in the Wardrobe forum report that someone asked (when they are wearing a "real" Missoni) ..."Is that Missoni for Target?" And they just smile and have the confidence that it really does not matter.

Exactly!!! If the person could not distinguish between a "real" Missoni and the Target line, why explain? Just like if an individual confuse a BV bag with a Cole Hann... same difference. :p

Hi ladies. Does anyone feel that Missoni sort of "sold out" by creating their line for Target? I LOVE Missoni & have been wearing it for almost 2 years now & I just feel like wearing my original Missoni pieces doesn't feel as special as it used to since they decided to create a Target line. I see people walking around wearing the Target Missoni & it just irritates me! Missoni is supposed to be an iconic, luxurious brand. To me, it would almost be as bad as Chanel creating a Target line..... anyone feel the same way?

Yes, it is similar to what happend with Tacori going to QVC.

^^
Exactly, CindyKay! I'm flattered when someone compliments something I'm wearing whether they know what it is or not! Actually, I'm always a little amazed at some things people notice (even though it's obvious to me they don't know what it is exactly, they obviously have a good eye) ;).

Well, it may be YOUR definition but it isn't Wikipedias.

 Love it!!! Lol.

Well, unfortunately for us, in this conversation, I was not able to see you roll your eyes as you made that statement.

For future reference, when most people say/type something, they mean it. Just a little bit of advice for a newbie ;)

I agree, it is quite unfortunate that you're unable to see my facial expressions as I respond to your posts......

Just FYI, if I need advice I'll ask for it..... Thanks anyway for your "help"! ;)

I own quite a few Missoni orange label and their M by Missoni line of clothing. I've been their fan for over 18 years, and there is no way a devoted Missoni fan would mistaken the Target brand from the original. There is so much difference in the quality of the original pieces (delicate & intricate...) vs. the Target line that our "trained eye" would spot the deviation right away. I was actually glad that Missoni did this collaboration, so now, there are a lot more people who are aware of the brand, and I would absolutely wear their orange label & M line with pride.

As for the Target pieces, I admit I was caught in the frenzy and bought a few pieces just for fun. It's more of an adrenaline rush seeing things in the store, and wanting to purchase them right away cos they are "very limited" and "sought after". :graucho: It's all part of the fun, and I enjoy hunting for the priced pieces.

I'm also a BV fanatic, and to confuse this brand with Cole Hann is insane...

Good post!! :smile1:

I don't know if I feel like they sold out. I own a Missoni orange label scarf and a few M Missoni pieces and I did buy a bunch of things from the Target line. My real Missoni pieces are items I had to save up for and really only wear on special occasions but I do love the line so I was glad to be able to buy Missoni style clothing at an affordable price. While these pieces are made fairly well, better than most Target apparel, they are mostly made of synthetic fabrics and are constructed nowhere near as well as real Missoni. These pieces are not designed to last long term but it's some cute stuff to wear for this fall and it's on trend. The only downside that I find with the Target line is that I like putting together unique outfits and I would feel a little strange if I was walking down the street and saw someone wearing the same items as me, especially since the patterns are so distinctive.

As I had said in a different thread I wasn't sure how I would feel about this line at Target. I've been a big fan of Missoni. I have several pieces from M Missoni and Missoni.
I buy it for uniqueness, colors. Which is why I bought a lot of the Target items. Not because Missoni is an elite brand but because of the style.
I really liked the Missoni for Target home items and some clothes. The knit scarfs and hats were really great.
I will say that they have lost me from buying anymore from regular line. I went to Miami this weekend and saw Missoni for Target everywhere from the airport to South Beach. Its really lost its appeal and uniqueness. I saw a hat and scarf at Off 5th and would have bought it if it weren't for the Target line.
Why should I pay over $100 for a scarf when I could get it at Target for $30?
Ok, the quality isn't the same. But the design is and most people can't tell the difference.
I know I'm going to be really mad when I wear my Missoni dress and people ask me if its from Target.

I agree with you about liking to put together distinctive outfits! It's fun being "different". Lol. :smile1:

I feel the same way. I don't think I would give it a second thought if Missoni had just created home goods (towels, bowls, patio sets, etc) for Target but creating apparel that looks similar to the orange label design just kind of rubs me the wrong way. I understand buying the Target line to wear casually as I, usually, save my Missoni dresses for special occasions too. There's just something that, I feel, is "less special" about Missoni now. And that's just my personal opinion! I respect everyone's differences of opinion which is why I started this thread. I, genuinely, wanted to know how others felt about the line. Thanks for your post!

One of the best books I read a couple of years ago was called Deluxe: How Luxury Lost it's Luster. It's about how some top luxury brands have become "watered down" so to speak. It's a fascinating read. I do get it though. These designers want more profit, and want to reach the masses. The only thing that is sad to me is how much the Target Missoni merchandise is being listed for on Ebay. Hopefully not too many people will be paying those super inflated prices.

I have a different opinion. I don't think Missoni have made tons of profit from this collaboration. Each Target received minimal stock without replenishment from each piece in the collection, leaving consumers hungry for more... It's more from an advertisement perspective that Missoni wanted to portray, and to let their name out to the masses... I think this is a genius idea, whoever thought of the collaboration... they have certainly achieved the effect. (Now, a lot more people know about the brand than ever before!)
