Men carrying a purse or handbag

Let's see...we all wore mens' clothes in the 60's (workshirts and bellbottoms.) We still wear sailor pea jackets. We relentlessly copy mens' shoe styles, bag styles, shirt styles, use their colognes, etc. etc. Is there anything wrong with US for doing that?

My DH has a very nice black leather Mulberry messenger - he only uses it when he goes somewhere where he need to bring a lot of stuff or if it's hot and he isn't wearing a jacket, otherwise he uses his jacket pockets ...

I wish my husband DID carry a man-purse! You should see all the stuff he has in his fanny-pack and shirt pocket - pens, pencils, lottery tickets, business cards.... His shirt pocket bulges out from his chest like a boob, and the zippers bust on his fanny pack. His "stuff" must weigh 3 lbs. - who says women carry too much junk???

My husband carries his LV Wallet and his Daniel MM Messenger bag in Damier Graphite. So not really a purse, he is a computer programmer and needs something sleek enough for his ipad and bits and pieces. He is a masculine guy and wears LV quite well.

Yikes! No way. To me, there's something off about men who carry purses and/or use (premium purse or women's clothing) designer wallets.

Agreeed! My fiance has a messenger bag that he used in college for his laptop and some pens/a notebook, but...it never went beyond using it for school. I mean, he does use it as a laptop bag when we travel, but again...it's not like he carries it around when we go out. And he's had the same, brown leather wallet since he was like 15 and he's 23 now.

I also don't really get what a guy would carry around with him that he would need a bag. Maybe it's just the people I grew up with/around, my dad/grandpas/uncles never use a bag of any sort, my fiance doesn't use one, his dad/grandpa...they don't use anything. Just a wallet, keys, phone, and a chapstick, all kept in pants pockets.

My husband has been looking for a bag but hasn't found one yet that he likes... He carries around:

cell phone (droid, so it requires its own pocket to protect the screen)
keys
sunglasses
eyedrops
wallet

Really it's the sunglasses that max out his pocket capacity. But he doesn't really like having his wallet in his back pocket, because he has to switch it around when he sits down otherwise it's uncomfortable, and then his pockets get really full.

It's interesting kuz we get so used to carrying bags...imagine if all of the sudden we couldn't. The times that I've gone out without a bag, I just carry my key, some cash wrapped around a credit card, a tissue and lipstick in my pockets.

I think some guys (and women) have problems with wallets kuz they pack them up with stuff--like tons of CC and ATM receipts. With few exceptions, we just need a couple of CCs, debit card, insurance card and cash. I don't understand why so many people can't remove receipts from wallets and purses and put them on a tray or file at home.

I think the same can happen with keys. I'm astonished at how many, mostly useless, keys some of my friends carry around. Old keys, rarely used keys, mystery keys...that add weight to purses and pockets. I usually carry only the keys I use every day--home and car--plus a key to an office, if I have one, and another to a relative's or friend's house.

As to the sunglasses, I think most guys I know wear them on their heads or hang them by their shirts when not using them.

I guess, for me, guys look OK carrying a laptop or messenger bag or a backpack, which may be too big for men who don't carry much, in which case I would prefer they slim the wallets and keep the sunglasses on or hang them somewhere rather than use a purse.

That definitely makes sense! I tried to use just a wristlet/clutch for the longest time, but sunglasses and glasses are what made it pretty much impossible.

Thank you for clarifying!
