Men carrying a purse or handbag

I have no DH , but I don´t think I´d ever date a guy who doesn´t wear a manbag because of stupid old prejudices what a man should wear or not wear...

If he doesn´t like the bag / finds it practical or something that´s fine , but if a guy is so insecure about himself and his "masculinity" that he feels "threatened" by a bag or is worried what OTHERS might think about his bag then I don´t think that guy would be man enough for me...

:)

It's interesting kuz we get so used to carrying bags...imagine if all of the sudden we couldn't. The times that I've gone out without a bag, I just carry my key, some cash wrapped around a credit card, a tissue and lipstick in my pockets.

I think some guys (and women) have problems with wallets kuz they pack them up with stuff--like tons of CC and ATM receipts. With few exceptions, we just need a couple of CCs, debit card, insurance card and cash. I don't understand why so many people can't remove receipts from wallets and purses and put them on a tray or file at home.

I think the same can happen with keys. I'm astonished at how many, mostly useless, keys some of my friends carry around. Old keys, rarely used keys, mystery keys...that add weight to purses and pockets. I usually carry only the keys I use every day--home and car--plus a key to an office, if I have one, and another to a relative's or friend's house.

As to the sunglasses, I think most guys I know wear them on their heads or hang them by their shirts when not using them.

I guess, for me, guys look OK carrying a laptop or messenger bag or a backpack, which may be too big for men who don't carry much, in which case I would prefer they slim the wallets and keep the sunglasses on or hang them somewhere rather than use a purse.

Well, a blink into my briefcase shows me that there's no way I could make it just with my pockets. Wallet, company mobile phone, private mobile phone, iPad, iPod, earphones, sunglasses, keys, fountain pen, other pens, mandatory medicine (Aspirin, ...), paper handkerchiefs, small moleskin notebook, business card holder. Even the minimum when I go out at night (mobile phone, wallet, keys) is already filling the pockets too much for my taste, even though I endure it.

I'm in love with the idea of getting a tote since a while (I guess around 3 years) but I went for a Samsonite BlackLabel soft leather briefcase. In an office where the men carry a nylon backpack or nothing, the brown leather briefcase already counts as flashy. As much as I'd like to get a nice tote, it's just not socially compatible in this rural area. People feel like a dress shirt instead of a polo shirt is dressing up and eye me weird because I put a pocket square into my breast pockets of sport coats :yucky:.

I'd say messenger bags are acceptable for every man. They're just way too casual for my tastes, nearly in the same category as a backpack. I'd rather like something like the LV Tadao: http://www.ilvoelv.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/Brochure_Damier_Graphite_26.jpg or the Davis.

This is my husbands "purse". Not only does he carry his lunch, but he also has extra change, various medications, pens, spare keys, Carmex, business cards, little note pad, and other stuff. He also carries an old agenda with the calender pages taken out so he can fit his check book, collection of business cards, club cards, credit cards, calculator, and who knows what else. On top of all that he has a big backpack with his laptop and all it's accessories. I told him he really needs a bag, but he will have no part of it.

mine does, but only to work, it's black, he took the shoulder strap off tho, too girly, he said. It is full of the electronic gadgets, chapstick, pens, pads, pretzels, hand sanitizer, cd's, no computer in it tho. Some male coworkers teased him, he doesn't care, he's liking having a place to carry all his junk

My hubby has a few man bags (nothing flashy, just Jag, Esprit and Ben Sherman messengers). He always uses them when he goes to work. He can put all his stuff in it, including his snacks for the day.

My dh often has to take his laptop with him, so he has a black bag to carry that in - but I don't think he puts anything except his computer and work papers in it - he doesn't need any extras and keeps his keys and wallet in his pockets. He would laugh at the suggestion that he carry another bag.
