Master Craftman's Stamp....a myth?

Grands Fonds- please let us all know if you get any more info on the stamps. I just spent an hour going through all the threads about Hermes stamps and am so intrigued to know the 'real' skinny

We should put together a list of bags/leathers that have the mark. I have a chevre Bolide that has a "four spot" type mark, too, in addition to the usual stamps...what's THAT? LOL......

He was muttering something in French about it being Natural Chamionix....now I wish I'd pushed to find out what on earth he was on about......

One of my Birkins has the "four spot" mark, that at first sight, I thought was a Celtic Cross; my black Box Kelly has the triangle with a dot, another one has a C with a dot.....They're probably all Atelier stamps.....

It's really amazing no one asked before? :nuts:I mean come on, it's on your bags! I hope we can solve this mystery soon, I'm eager to find out. Why can't someone ask their most beloved SA`? :graucho:

Well, if this don't beat all! Three bags by the same craftsman! What are the odds! Well, I guess if you have enough bags the odds are pretty good...:roflmfao:

The stamp info is interesting too!:p

Where oh where did the "Master Craftsman" myth start? I've seen bags recommended for purchase because they had that symbol and were therefore made by master craftsmen....wonder if it was someone's idea of making gullible people think they were buying the 'best of the best' bags!

LOL can I add fuel to the fire too?

I asked a craftsman about the celtic cross. I didn't have my celtic cross bag with me on that particular day, but I drew it out for him. He looked befuddled.

And I was asking him about it in French, so we don't have to figure in the lost in translation angle.

Thank you for the info Grands Fonds. I actually didn't know what celtic cross is. Until I find out what medusa2020 mentioned Sandia's birkin. I just got the picture. Thank you.

Picture form Sandiaexchange on Ebay.

Ha! This helps to explain why my SAs occasionally complain that information obtained from fora such as this can be a dangereous thing.

OK, so we suspect now that the celtic cross = master craftsman's mark is hogwash but Hermes don't stamp/mark/identify their stuff without some reason so it must mean something....

Last Christmas I bought a Togo Kelly from Paris FSH. All the markings on it were very faint. One day I was looking at it in sunlight and noticed what looked like the celtic cross but without a dot in the middle. Since it was textured leather and all the markings were not deep, it was hard to tell if the marker had just missed the dot or not meant it to be there. Several months ago I did show it to Claude. I was asking him about something else and happened to have my Kelly with me so I asked him about the missing dot. He just told me that all Hermes bags had their own markings, numbers, etc., to denote who made it and blah blah blah. I didn't push it as he was busy but I believed he had not really had a good look at the strap: the lighting wasn't good and he was too far away and the markings were all so faint anyway.
I've since asked a couple of SA's about it. One, who was very knowledgeable, had heard of it. The other seemed to have it confused with the shooting star.
