For those of you that goes into the store regular to check in with your SA, do you typically buy something to maintain the good relationship and keep a consistent purchasing history?

Don't overthink it. Buy things when you see something that you like, not to earn favor. After a while, your SA will remember you even if its been several months since your last visit in my experience.

Nope. Sometimes there is no RTW my size. Sometimes there is nothing I end up liking. my advice is only buy what you love. if you explain why you don’t like some things and prefer others, that feedback helps the SA to pick things that they think you might like. I do not have a consistent purchase history bc, for example, it took months to get a teapot and cups and saucers. Crystal took many weeks. SAs would rather you only select what you love bc a dissatisfied client who returns goods or doesn’t come back becomes a time consuming head ache.

I agree with this. When i make an appointment after two months not coming in, my SA sometimes told me not to come in because nothing in my size and nothing she thinks i like. But she will text me randomly say to come in if she sees something she knows im excited. So once the SA knows you, he or she can help you save money on things you dont need either. They don’t like people buy to just buy.

Hi,
I'm living in China, Beijing and never been to an Hermès store. I want to start my Hermès journey the best way I can but I have no idea how. I'm not interested in any quota bags for now, I just want to buy some sandals (Chypre, Oran) and some jewelry in gold and silver. As I don't speak Chinese and those stores always seem so busy I was wondering if you have any advice. Should I call them to ask for an appointment with an SA that speaks english? Is it not weird to ask for an appointment if you just want to buy one pair of shoes? If I just pop up there I'm afraid to be able to have someone that can speak English.
Thanks for your answers

Unfortunately, this forum has a western slant and you won’t be able to get helpful information here.

How Hermes works in China is a different ball game.

The best way forward is for you to call customer service in China (I think number is on mainland China Hermes website) or message their customer service in WeChat (which I have no info, sorry) to make appointment with an English speaking Sales Associate.

You may directly sound the SA out on building your profile. If you are not entirely happy with this SA and/or the reply, please do not engage further or buy anything. Go to another store another day and try out a different SA until you find someone you are comfortable with and able to trust to work with you in this journey.

Thanks for your answer. They will not be a little bit disappointed if I just make an appointment to buy one pair of shoes. I feel like making an appointment means you're gonna spend a lot of money.

I wonder how many clients each SA usually has. My SA told me s/he cannot take in anymore clients because s/he cannot fulfill everyone's wishlist.
Same thing with another SA in my home store. I asked her if she could take a friend of mine and she said she is not taking any new clients since she is playing catch up trying to fulfill her current clients’ wishlists

I don’t think it is just the number of clients per SA that matters.

SAs are also saying that “everybody wants the same things.”

that’s interesting. I also wonder how many clients are assigned for each SA. Also what are those items that ‘everyone wants’ obviously BKC and mini bags, and may be Oran’s? What else? @Justlikewhatilike did your SA mention specific things?

It’s not difficult to know. U can check out social media or some of the threads here asking how to buy this/that or is XXX (ie picotin, neutral bags) difficult to get?

Anyway, Hermes should really reflect upon themselves why everybody wants only a minority of their products (not even talking about bags). But I guess this is wishful thinking on my part. Hermes just do whatever it does.

Thank you! I’m honestly not in a huge rush since the combos I want for B30/B35 are highly sought after, and B25 are unicorns in general, so I’m likely going to go resale for those, but would love to eventually get a boutique offer and have a relationship for other goodies that pop up!

i had a much better experience when I went to Bellevue than Boston. My SA was so sweet, patient, and was hell bent on finding me an enamel bangle in my size at the store! I really appreciated her effort, and wish I was local to her. My Boston SA was fine, but I emailed him to make an appointment a couple of months or so after our first one, and he just ghosted me, so it left a bad taste in my mouth and am worried about the politics of switching SA!

I’ve also seen a few things here that were interesting - more frequent trips with smaller spend versus fewer trips with much higher spend. I’m about 70 minutes away from Boston, so it’s not even really feasible for me to go there that often, maybe once a month at most?

there’s just so much strategy involved that it makes one over analyze every single thing!
Do you mind sharing the name of your SA in Bellevue?

Not sure if an appointment is required since pandemic protocols are different depending on location. A couple of years ago, I was in Shanghai and stopped by Hermes Shanghai Maison (the SA I met educated me that it was a “maison” LOL). Upon entering the maison, I spoke only English even though I understood minimal mandarin. They immediate found an English speaking SA. I didn’t purchase anything there and told the SA that I was browsing and looking around since I was on vacation. He was very attentive, gave me a tour, and added me on Wechat for future contact. You can call and ask if an appointment is needed and because you will be speaking English, they will most likely set an appt with one that speaks English. Good luck and hope you‘ll have an enjoyable experience!

The actual number may not matter. I’ve been told by Premier brand SAs that it makes more sense for their sales goals to have fewer large clients that they can count on to spend regularly. The amount of work and time spent (special orders, transfers, etc etc) to get the right merchandise and service a client can be substantial. My SAs also decline new clients on the grounds that they cannot accommodate any more.
