I think the classic ones are made in France, where the trendy ones, not permanent collections are made in Italy. Maybe their factory is not big enough but the way I see it it's better Italy than China.

I do not work in Chanel but what what happens in the manufacturing industry is that factories rent their space for chain production. Sometimes the factory is not big enough or they're simply not interested (because somebody else is willing to pay more for it) so you have to go to another factory. This would explain why some Chanel goods are made in France and others Italy.

my madison also says made in italy and I bought it in a Chanel boutique, so it should be possible.
I also thought there were only factories in France, but maybe it's like steffibp said that only the classic ones are made there..

When I was picking out my new Medallion tote, the boutique had four of them, two made in France and two made in Italy. All the same bag but there were actually subtle differences. I wanted one made in France so the poor SA ended up dragging out all four boxes so DH and I could check all four bags with a fine tooth comb and get one made in France.

I prefer Chanel bag Made in Italy but Made in France for LV. ;)
