Jayne, how did she not answer the question?
I read this:
all of which is produced by hand in France.

Swanky, pardon me for being redundant since I said this in another thread where this info was reposted, but I wonder why some bags then are stamped "Made in Italy?" I think my GST was made in Italy...

I don't care where the heck my handbag is made. I do not think craftsmanship is genetic nor do I think the stellar-handbag-maker-gene is inherent to Italians and French people. If the Chinese or the green people from Mars can make excellent bags, then cheers for all of us!

I think it's interesting that some companies have their stuff made in china and then stamp italy or france to maintain the image, but a brand like Coach only has their stuff made in China and isn't afraid to say so. hee!

LOL! You're right Annie! Maybe she meant the majority?
I don't really care where mine is produced either, I also am not hung up on having a euro made bag. But I do want it to be from where they claim it is. . . . I still don't believe they outsource their leather goods.

I don't believe Chanel outsources either. They're not a giant corporation like LVMH and still family-owned. Even their perfume, Chanel No. 5, is made with jasmine from the same farm that produced flowers for the very first bottle.

Perfumes are a different matter entirely. There is but a handful of "noses" and perfumeries (if that's the correct term but you get the idea) that create scents. The "recipes" are secret. That said I believe that Chanel's sources or artisans who specialize were brought by the company in an effort to preserve the art forms such as the hand beading. I read about this a bit ago.

I'm not convinced one way or the other where the purses are made but I do know if it is made in China and misrepresented as being made in France or Italy, then that's a problem. I just got a boilerplate letter from Formica re failure of a product, so I'm not letting them off the hook that easily. I'm asking for a detailed explanation and the return of the floor sample I sent. If nothing else I'm going to make them pay postage and work a bit harder than a boilerplate. As for Chanel, what do you expect them to say -- our bags are made in China.

How did she not answer the question? Good question, Swanky. Her answer leaves a lot of leeway and is a lot like Bill *******'s definition of what "is" means." (And I love that guy, but still... )

I know enough about covering one's behind to know she did not say, "I unequivocally guarantee that none of our leather goods are, or ever were, manufactured in China. This includes zippers, linings, etc. I can say with complete certainty that all our leather goods are produced, from start to finish, in our privately owned factories, in France and Italy. We have not, nor have we ever, signed strict confidentiality agreements with factories outside France and Italy, to produce our leather goods."

Okay, that's over the top... but something like that.

Most perfumes are produced not by perfumeries but by huge chemical labs that stuff bottles full of synthetics. Where do you think J.Lo Glow or Sean John Unforgivable is made? Not in Grasse...

Edited for spelling, sorry.

You're a woman after my own heart and shared opinions. Bravo to another fellow human being living with integrity.:smile1:

A perfumista after my own heart!

Yup, even our beloved classic parfums are synthetic based these days... for a number or reasons and not just cost, but cost has a lot to do with it too.

LMAO!! I can dig:yes:

She wasn't asked about China specifically. . . wonder if the answer would change?
The eternal optimist in me is saying NOPE! :D

^^ Swanky, I did ask about China actually. I don't know about Italy, since none of my Chanels say Italy on them, but the email they sent just says France. I wonder if they're using the term 'produced' to indicate something different than the term 'made'...??

I know this wasn't addressed directly to me, however I am no fool chanelspell. Your thinly veiled snide comment above is transparent. I am more than happy to document where I got the information and it's not the first time I have copied & pasted this excerpt. As I posted, it's an excerpt from one of the many editorial reviews. Go to google, select a sentence from the excerpt, C & P it in the google search box and voilà.

Oh by the way, feel free to ask me clarify anything as I read this forum too, although I'm definitely not the most prolific poster.

An Example of one of My Well Documented Posts:http://forum.purseblog.com/chanel/is-that-just-plain-inflation-194503-4.html#post4154715

I also recommend you borrow the book from your public library or buy a copy so you can read it for yourself.

Layla! Of course I have access to read /buy/google the book whatever ! what I wanted to highlight was that since the sentence you're quoting has very cleverly been cut out of its context and glued on another It should be put right there with its context FOR EVERYONE TO SEE AND MAKE ASSUMPTIONS !that at least will be the right thing IMO!
And since you very willingly posted excerps of the book here in several threads I invite you to post this particular sentence WITH ITS CONTEST if this does not bother you!TIA!

Why is she forgetting Italy... that's a good question. The first Chanel I ever bought, in 1988, was made in Italy. The stamp has pretty much worn off, but I can see it with a magnifying glass. Click:
