i find that the jumbo's are alot softer and aren't as structured - but perhaps this is because of the style...? the quilted parts aren't as 'puffy' as the other flaps.. not sure what else?

yes i must agree the new jumbo in caviar is a lots softer then older batch.

i too realise this on my recent purchase. i'm loving it but i so scared it will not hold up as much as the tougher caviar.

anyone who recently bought a caviar notice the caviar leather difference? and which do you prefer?

i think it will be impossible to find the older caviar

Hi kaka28,may I ask if your new jumbo reads "made in Italy" please!
I am getting really confused with all this lately! I just hope Chanel has changed some things but not at the quality's expense!TIA!:sweatdrop:

Katie, unfortunately this doesn't stop here:here's a thread about the quantity of metal in the silver hw as well as the quality of the leather on the new jumbo(took me some time searching and there was another thread in which a fellow fer had taken shots of both the new and old jumbo for us to compare the H/W-didn't find the latter yet!).

Moreover I find the leather interwoven chain on some of the "act 1 Fall 2007" bags disanalogous in proportion to the bag's volume !I would expect heavier/bigger chains(someone has mentioned that too -I'm pretty sure) on such gorgeous bags!
Please gals don't shoot me on that ,it's just MHO or my eyesight!
just out of curiosity is the new jumbo made in France or Italy?I have no clue yet!

chanelspell, thanks for the link. Yeah, I also notice CC clasp is thinner. It looks cheap. I like the old thick CC. About leather, I've seen two different types of caviar. The caviar on hybrid flap is softer. Seem like coating caviar. I like this caviar. The caviar on GST is stiff, structured, coarse grain leather. I don't like both look and feel of this caviar.

I feel so lucky I got the old CC 18K clasp and puffy lambskin on my medium black. Seem like I almost miss the train :smile1:

Mine is made in France. i think i got the newer version cos the caviar is softer than my 2005 purchase and it has more shine to it. not sure whether that could be my 2005 has been worn so the shine has faded away.

i'm not concern about whether its made in France or Italy cos both countries make lovely leather bags.

i'm more concern about the new caviar. who likes softer caviar here?

Thanks Kaka28!:smile1:You're right about the soft caviar ! Who knows maybe it will turn out to be stronger eventually! At least I hope so ! I just wish Chanel doesn't degrade the quality ,whether on leather,H/W,chain and so on while at the same time keeps on increasing prices!:cursing:

i hope it will be stronger because i'm not so sure whether i should exchange it hoping to find a tougher caviar like my 2005 medium. but i doubt i'll be able to find the old version.

i'm scared of scratches, creasing etc

i dont like it when they makes changes to their classics.

I saw jumbo made in Italy today. I am disappointed. The alignment is not as good as those made in France. It looks good on the front but really bad on the sides. The French ones look good on sides but ok on the front.

The leather is softer and too shiny. I like this new caviar than the caviar on new GST.

Hi katie thanks for the info and I absolutely agree with you! I'd like the shine on the leather but not the other changes !I guess I'll have to go and check too I'm really curious about it!
Now since kaka 's got a new jumbo "made in France"it seems that jumbos are being made in both countries from now right???
Taking into consideration comments on the new jumbo I really hope this doesn't mean a shift on the quality!

I saw a new black/silver Made in Italy jumbo, and it was gorgeous! Softer caviar with a nice sheen to it. I didn't notice any alignment problem. On the jumbo flap, I definitely prefer the new caviar. Soooooo pretty!

Did you check if the front is aligned with the sides. Part of quilt diamond is on the front bag and part of it on the side. The quilt line should be aligned right at the seam where the front/back of the bag and the sides meet.

Hope these photos make some sense:

:wtf:??this is more than obvious! Kaka28 has also reported problems with the alignment in her new jumbo:
i tried to change my jumbo on friday (bought it on monday) because i notice the underside of the flap the leather was a little bit uneven on one side. it looked like there were some air or the glue did not stick the leather togther enough. I try to tell myself i'm being paranoid.

the SA said no more flaps in gold chain (i get the feeling she doesnt want to change it for me as simply as that).

i'm so annoyed with them at the moment especially i had to go back just to get the stupid security tag off after they forgot to get that off.

here's the link to the thread:http://forum.purseblog.com/chanel/chanel-would-not-fix-my-bag-unless-i-190113-2.html

Moreover there is the new very interesting book,Purrrfect posts about:http://forum.purseblog.com/chanel/chanel-book-deluxe-how-luxury-lost-its-luster-191504.html
and here's a post by Layla at the same thread :

2. "Yes, luxury handbags are made in China. Top brands. Brands that you carry. Brands that deny outright that their bags are made in China make their bags in China, not in Italy, not in France, not in the United Kingdom."

..."Each brand made the manufacturer sign a cofidentiality agreement stipulating that he could not reveal the fact that he produced their products in China. Furthermore, the manufacturer doesn't let the competition know who else he is producing...The change came in the mid-1990s when Coach decided to move a small portion of its production from the United States to China. Coach's stock value increased a whopping 1,270 percent in the first five years ...other luxury brands quietly began to look into producing leather goods in China"

3. "The brands have little tricks to get around the China label. One brand's "Made in China" label is actually a sticker affixed to the outer package. The luxury brand rips it off when the goods arrive in Italy and replaces it with a "Made in Italy" label. Another has the entire bag made in China except the for the handle. The bag is shipped to Italy, where the Italian-made handle is attached."

4. The following lists are not complete:Louis Vuitton Moet Hennesy (LVMH) --It has more than 50 brands. Some are Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Dior, Bliss, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Celine, e-Luxury.com, Duty Free Shoppers (DFS-majority owned)

Gucci Group--YSL, Sergio Rossi, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta

Independently owned--Armani, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Hermes, and Chanel...
