I always kinda knew I was deemed a "VIC" in my store, just based on always being able to get the bag I want, invited to preview parties, etc. but it was confirmed when LV changed their policy about phone orders via CC and my SA said, "We can only do it for VICs like you now".

In regards to becoming a VIC, I agree with the previous posters that it is about establishing a great relationship with an SA and of course, consistently purchasing items. I have a friend that unfortunately always goes in the store to browse, makes the SAs take down TONS of items to look at, then goes home to elux for purchasing. I get that the tax savings can be substantial, but I think it's incredibly rude to waste the SAs time showing 20+ items then to walk away. Obviously, she is not called for shows, placed on waiting lists, etc.

Also, being friendly and pleasant always helps!

The general consensus on this forum seems to be that it depends on your relationship with your SA - granted that you've spent some $$ with them too.

To tPFers who are VICs, how did you know when you became a VIC? Is it when you get an ultra-exclusive bag? Is it when you're invited to the VIC room? Is it when you receive a VIC gift? Or do you get a VIC badge to wear? (that was a joke)

I agree with most of the replies above. I think it has more to do with establishing a relationship than with spending money. The amount of money you spend is probably also a factor. The first time I knew I was a VIC was when I was taken to a different room just to pay because the lines were so long in the holiday season. One of the SAs said she was a VIC ambassador and she will take care of me in another room. I didn't even know what that meant until I joined the forum, lol.

I asked my SA some time ago and he answered that it depends on a fixed amount of money you've spend within a year. I forgot the amount - but I've posted it somewhere before in this forum.
I am really disappointed that it doesn't depend on the relationship with your SA. Because I'll never spend that (huge) amount within a year on LV.
(I'm trying to find it now!)

$78 500....

Sometimes it will be hard to buy from the same LV store all the time thou. One time, i was trying to find the Tivoli PM, the local LV store has long waiting list (at least that's what the SA told me) then I ended up go out of state to be on WL, then within 2 days, I got the Call that I got the bag and will ship right away. So I ended up buying from different LV store, sometimes from SAKS as well. It is pretty hard to establish relationship to just one SA.

Im VIC at two different boutiques that are in two different states....both large stores, and large cities. I don't go into those mall stores..unless I am buying something REALLY small (like a scarf..).

With one LV boutique.. I have never stepped foot in..ever. I make all my purchases over the phone...and they overnight my bag(s) to me. At that particular store, the leather goods manager sends me the look books PDF via email. With my boutique where I live.. I just go in the store to look at the books.

Hi LondonSoho7, actually, the SAs don't receive commission. One of my close former-LV SAs left the company because of this. Their sales are tracked and considered for salary increases, bonuses, promotions, etc. but LV doesn't pay them commission. He was fed up as he was a top sale and got a great offer to join Chanel (which does pay commission).

hmmmm I always find that a good SA (and they do work on commission at the end of the day) will develop a relationship with you, and not the other way round.
