Your story could give the OP some great insight on how to sell her bag. I would want my purse to have a date code. Even though the date code alone does not prove authenticity it is what many buyers want to see. Some buyers will treat a seller like they sell fake handbags if they can't read or see the date code, trust me I know.Where did you buy it? If you bought it in the store, it is irrespective if it doesn't have one!
Few months ago I saw a red vernis zippy being listed on eBay forever... I'd personally bought from this seller and she is one the best I've ever dealt with, had all +ve feedback, and her listings were genuine but somehow I always saw this item of hers as active. (Now I know it was because potential buyers kept asking for the date code!).
A few weeks later, she uploaded a picture of her complete sales receipt and email communication with LV customer service asking them why her item didn't have a date code and their (very lengthy) explanation on the significance of DCs, how it's meant for internal use, and how it's irrespective whether an item has it or not... Her wallet sold within a few days of uploading this email.

A buyer would want to know the date code.
If you're planning on selling or consigning to reputable companies such as FP or Yoogi's then the date code isn't entirely necessary since each has their own professional authenticators; they will scrutinize the bag from top to bottom and look for certain things that, to the trained eye, are difficult to replicate. Both have accepted plenty of bags and items that, for whatever reason, are either missing codes or the codes are no longer legible, so don't worry.
I can understand why LV doesn't care that your Speedy appears to have no date code. These codes are internal codes used by repair specialists. The customer is not even supposed to know there are date codes! As you know, they are not a guarantee of authenticity either.
I would continue to look for the D C in the Speedy, just in case you missed it. But if the bag is authentic, then there should be no issue with reputable resellers.
Keep us updated though! There was a rumor a few months ago that date codes would disappear from SLGs.
+1i would check your original recipe and go back to your store, work with a understandable sa and just ask, if you were to get it repaired what would they do since it doesn't have a date code. Play it off as this being your concern not b/c of resale reasons. I just took in a bag for repair and the first thing they did was match my date code with the receipt and my transaction history to verify it was the actual item on the receipt. Ask for documentation in writing on lv letterhead stating your bag has no date code and that for repairs it wouldn't be an issue. Tell them you want it in writing b/c you don't want it to be an issue many years down the road. Then you can always attach that with your listing. They will be much happier to help knowing you aren't planing on selling the item. Good luck.
