I think you have a valid point for being upset! A buyer would want to know the date code. I have an inclusion bracelet w/ no date code. And it makes me mad too. I would never sell it BUT if I wanted to I am kind of screwed.

Where did you buy it? If you bought it in the store, it is irrespective if it doesn't have one!

Few months ago I saw a red vernis zippy being listed on eBay forever... I'd personally bought from this seller and she is one the best I've ever dealt with, had all +ve feedback, and her listings were genuine but somehow I always saw this item of hers as active. (Now I know it was because potential buyers kept asking for the date code!).

A few weeks later, she uploaded a picture of her complete sales receipt and email communication with LV customer service asking them why her item didn't have a date code and their (very lengthy) explanation on the significance of DCs, how it's meant for internal use, and how it's irrespective whether an item has it or not... Her wallet sold within a few days of uploading this email.

Your story could give the OP some great insight on how to sell her bag. I would want my purse to have a date code. Even though the date code alone does not prove authenticity it is what many buyers want to see. Some buyers will treat a seller like they sell fake handbags if they can't read or see the date code, trust me I know. Now I know to check for a date code before buying. :smile1:

OMG, i get it if you want to keep it, but to sell it's very annoying. I think having the email backup from LV would help greatly. I recently had the vachetta replaced on my speedy 30 due to a defect. After a couple of days of use, i noticed that the "30" was not on the new replaced pull tab. I figure, i'm never selling my speedy, and i'm OVER the repair process/drama.

I'm not sure when they made the change with the pocket but could be in a seam in the pocket that is hard to see.....I can't imagine they stopped putting in the date codes.....both my mono and DE speedys have it under the pocket on a tab but they could have changed it to another place....maybe a tab in the pocket or stamped on the material?

That's exactly the thing! Most buyers think (probably like a lot of us back in the day) that a Datecode is the be all, end all of an LV bag! SO wrong!

If you're planning on selling or consigning to reputable companies such as FP or Yoogi's then the date code isn't entirely necessary since each has their own professional authenticators; they will scrutinize the bag from top to bottom and look for certain things that, to the trained eye, are difficult to replicate. Both have accepted plenty of bags and items that, for whatever reason, are either missing codes or the codes are no longer legible, so don't worry.

Don't know about FP but i can speak from experience that Yoogi's had once rejected my Trevi PM because the date code was no longer readable. They replied with an email stating even though their authenticator deem it to be real, they have to think about the stand point of their customers. People expect a date code and i completely understand Yoogi's position. Therefore, I can sympathy with the OP for her destress. As a new and preloved buyer, i wouldn't buy a bag without a date code or any of those bags that's flowing around eBay that has been dyed. My taste changes all the time and i doubt ill have a forever bag. I know down the line i will have to sell and will definitely run into issue if the date code is missing or the integrity of the bag have been compromise.

I would check your original recipe and go back to your store, work with a understandable SA and just ask, if you were to get it repaired what would they do since it doesn't have a date code. Play it off as this being your concern not b/c of resale reasons. I just took in a bag for repair and the first thing they did was match my date code with the receipt and my transaction history to verify it was the actual item on the receipt. Ask for documentation in writing on LV letterhead stating your bag has no date code and that for repairs it wouldn't be an issue. Tell them you want it in writing b/c you don't want it to be an issue many years down the road. Then you can always attach that with your listing. They will be much happier to help knowing you aren't planing on selling the item. Good luck.

LV would not care about your plans to resell their merchandise, it was up to you to inspect your bag for all its complete details being to your satisfaction back in January when it was purchased, at this point of course they said "oh well" - the date code has nothing to do with the quality or a flaw etc.. so I'm not sure what you expected customer service to do?

I'd just go ahead and list it without that photo, but with your receipt (so people can date the bag/ know the age) and block out your personal info. If you get any inquiries about the date code you can just say it's unreadable.. or that you can't find it. You may need to drop the price without it if you want a quicker sale but imo this is not LV's problem to solve. Sometimes items do slip through production without a date code being visible/legible. It has nothing to do with the quality of the bag. However I'm confused how it could just not be there. :-) The leather tab/rivet is there I presume but nothing is stamped on it, or what? Are you sure it's just not very light?

Good luck!

I can understand why LV doesn't care that your Speedy appears to have no date code. These codes are internal codes used by repair specialists. The customer is not even supposed to know there are date codes! As you know, they are not a guarantee of authenticity either.

I would continue to look for the D C in the Speedy, just in case you missed it. But if the bag is authentic, then there should be no issue with reputable resellers.

Keep us updated though! There was a rumor a few months ago that date codes would disappear from SLGs.

I've recently got a Sarah wallet. Theres no date code in her, but my key pouch there is?!
