HI fellow baghags..im new here, i cant find threads for the newbie.. anyways i would like to know if LV's produces bags w/out datecode? is it authentic w/out datecode? when and where these bags made? any opinions...

My LV does NOT have a date code. And it IS authentic. I've purchased it within* the Louis Vuitton store at the shopping district called Tysons Corner in McLean Virginia.

I have 3 Louis Vuitton handbags, and while attempting to sell one of them, I was brought on with accusations that it wasn't authentic solely bc My purse didn't have a date code. YET I was able to contact Louis Vuitton customer service to provide me the receipt, as well as them ALSO stating that date codes DO NOT verify authenticity.

It is absolutely ridiculously frustrating that some people rely only on date codes, especially when the reps at Louis Vuitton & high end stores like Saks/Bloomingdales/Nordstrom states otherwise. AS WELL as being the source of verification for the resale of said purse.

Hi everyone. Looking for a bit of advice. I purchased the capucines bb bag in a Louis Vuitton airport store and am now trying to sell same as I haven't used it enough. Iv been asked to provide the date code but I cannot find the code anywhere on the bag. Does anyone know where i would find it or if the capucines doesn't come with the date code? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

What color is the interior? Maybe try looking in the seam in the interior pocket? It may be printed in there so you may need a flashlight to see it...

If there's already a thread for this please let me know (& sorry). The last two bags I've bought from LV were purchased online from the LV website. I purchased the Iena PM, which I exchanged for the MM. Neither had/have a date code. The only tag is the cloth one that's on bags made in the US. Is LV phasing out date codes? How will this effect resale values? Would you be skeptical of purchasing a preowned bag without a date code? I have bought preowned bags and at this point would pass on a bag without one.

This seems to crop up every now and again. It seems unlikely though given that they have been in use for decades now - what is the purpose of doing away with it?

If it becomes common knowledge that datecodes are to be phased out and it is known when this happens then resale shouldn't be an issue with an educated buyer.

Currently buyers will expect your item, if you're selling it, to have a datecode. Certainly 2016 Ienas have them. Everything I have purchased this year has a datecode so far.

PS: Saw your other thread and the comment SAs say not all have bags have them. Yes they do, until LV decides not to use them anymore. There's no half do and half don't!

The date code is there...look in one of the inside pockets.

I'm sure you're right. As someone who has bought new and preowned LV's for almost 20 years this is the only two times I've seen a bag without a datecode, and the two times are back to back. Maybe I overlooked the one in the PM before I returned it but there's no way I've missed it in the MM I received yesterday. As many times as I've gone over the bag (including with a flashlight!), and then asking my husband to look, which turned up nothing as well, I know this bag doesn't have a date code.

I don't own an Iena so can't help but am sure someone will be able to tell you exactly where to look. If they've stopped putting it on tabs and have embossed into the lining then they are exceptionally difficult to find and can fade quickly (although obviously not on a brand new piece).

I've looked in every pocket, every crease, every corner. I've gone back to the bag several times and looked " one more time just to be sure". My husband even inspected the bag and told me he couldn't find it. I guess this is one that fell through the cracks somehow.

It should be there. Try looking again. I guess as long as you bought it from the boutique, I wouldn't be overly concerned with authenticity. I'll take a peek when I get home and point you in the direction where you can find it.

Try pulling the lining of the outside zippered pocket out. It should be stitched along the edge of the lining of the inside of the zippered pocket on the bag.
