I’ve had a couple hours to think about it and maybe I’ll edit later once I’ve slept but the Rodeo Dr boutique midnight shopping experience was a total amateur hour that may actually be worse than the online IT.

Somehow they hadn’t programmed the system to permit them to do transactions since it was after hours, that took a solid forty minutes to fix; maybe something that should have been tested for?

We were told to scramble and grab whatever we were intending to buy so it was a weird polite but also aggressive free for all? People loaded bags into their SAs arms so that you couldn’t even see what was available or may have had additional stock in the back.

There was only one cow bag that they were protecting in the back (btw anyone doing the LA line up later today there’s only one cow bag) because an SA had been doing shenanigans of pre-selling items ahead of time. So it sounded like they were holding back random items for the regular launch day.

The first transaction that was going through took some crazy amount of time to actually process and despite the arrival around 11.40pm it took two hours to finally get out of there. Their point of sale system only had two checkout points which was entirely incapable of handling the fact that multiple people had items without sku tags and bogged down by inquiries on missing items (because they’re in some other SAs hand) and the register person having to try to find the sku.

There was weird feast and famine availability of SAs too bc one SA would run the POS system, another fed SKUs and then the need to package was another employee or two. I’m not sure I saw any of the special packaging beyond the shop bag itself. Def saw no notebooks.

All totaled I spent seven hours at the movie event and boutique to be denied a cow based on shenanigans and walk away two cardholders and two charms. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…… not.
Ugh I’m so sorry. It’s such a missed opportunity for a special event. There’s simply no excuse for such terrible planning.

Ohh I see. It’s a shame they seem to be inconsistent with their special packaging especially on launch day purchases (I was one of the first in line actually) you’d think everyone would’ve gotten the same packaging. Not a deal breaker haha but just annoying to know, maybe because I didn’t make a big purchase and only bought a smaller item so I don’t get any special packaging…but still strange lol they definitely need to work on this aspect of their customer service haha
They didn't have what I wanted instead I bought a plain card holder worth 540$ so it was a small purchase aswell. Im assuming it depends on your SA because I also was one of the first ones aswell. Maybe give them a call tomorrow and ask for the special bag?

Wow! Thanks for sharing the experience! Hopefully there will be a cow bag back in stock somewhere that you can grab!

OK, essay ahead because I’m excited.
The Hong Kong pop up experience - it’s nice, though I wouldn’t say that special. Like it’s not especially worth visiting even if you don’t buy kinda thing. The frame looked like it was reused from Spirited Away and they had a model of the castle, but not all the stuff Selfridges had.

At first I thought there wasn’t a lot of stock, as I was mostly seeing RTW and the various cardholders, but the more I looked the more gems I found. They had the Calcifer charm (the spiky one) and Turnip Head brooch, the shearling cow bag and Turnip Head blanket, both Sophie and Howl Amazonas. Only spotted the black one on the way out - the crystals look so great on it! It’s not my style, though, even if it’s the It Bag of the collection. The big scarf embroidered with the castle is amazing, but I’d sooner use it as a wall hanging.

The second most exciting moment was when the big castle bag walked in!! They had a couple of models doing a photoshoot around the pop up - I’m not sure *why*, you’d think they had publicity enough, but the woman had the shearling Calcifer flamenco (still didn’t love it in person) and the man had the epic castle bag. I would have loved to tinker with all the parts but I know I was lucky just to see one for real. My SA told me they only got one to sell and it was gone immediately.

I bought three things. The first was the Heen charm I just ordered on mytheresa. So that was a waste of the ridiculous shipping fee, but buying at the pop up would get me the shopping bag and stickers. I’ll decide when the second one comes whether to return it or gift it to a friend.

The second was the Markl nugget that was hiding on a shelf, which is also something I’ve already bought. I feel like it’s the equivalent of my frog flamenco from last year - not the most popular, probably weird to a lot of people, but I love it. It’s not the most carefree bag; it does stick out when you carry it crossbody, and it’s nappa leather. However, it feels sturdier and is darker than I was expecting, so I feel less nervous about it. I like both the shapes it does and it holds more than I thought - I just put a big paperback and my water bottle in it and it closes normally. What I don’t like is the skinny strap, but I didn’t love the blue Calcifer strap with it. I think I’ll keep an eye out for a complementary jacquard strap in the future; anyone know if outlets get straps?

Like I said I already ordered the nugget in the presale, so it was a bit of a gamble between buying today and getting a shopping bag or waiting for delivery and seeing if I got lucky with that packaging. In the end, the desire to walk out with a bag in my hand won. I did try to cancel the order but they would have had to cancel the whole thing, and I ordered the Markl charm along with the nugget. I may return the charm given I decided to keep the whole bag but I want to see it first. ;)
The most exciting moment was when we went to look at the strap and I spotted the magical sky wallet! I’d asked about the coin cardholder when I arrived and that was a firm nope, but the SAs apparently didn’t think to say they had the wallet. It was the last one! I prefer the “slim zip bifold” wallet to this “compact zip wallet” but honestly, I don’t think I’ll be using it. It’s too pretty and sparkly to be allowed to carry filthy coin and bank notes around. :P

So overall, one charm, one wallet, one nugget, three shopping bags (two with cardboard tags), two packs of stickers. Didn’t hear anything about notebooks. Still to come: duplicate charm and nugget (oops), Markl charm (possibly to return) and small orange Calcifer puzzle (send itttttt Loewe you have a millionnnnn). The character I have not even a tag from is Turnip Head, but I must NOT let myself back into a Loewe store in the coming month.

Yeah must be! I’ll try give them a call and sus out if they still have any bags left. And yeah they also didn’t have what I wanted, it seems the range was quite limited :( either they didn’t receive much variety of items or they all got sneakily pre-sold by SA’s

Can‘t wait to see what you both got!

The heen sweater really is gorgeous on you! Too bad it is prickly… Is it like the shawls? I got the Spirited Away Shawl with the duck and it looks supersoft, but also is prickly…
It’s even pricklier than the otori sama scarf from last year if that’s the one you got. Haha. But it’s SUPER CUTE

Omg what an amazing haul!! Do you have any pics of the magical sky compact wallet by any chance? :D from the website photos it looks so pretty! Love the purple inside.

Oh yes otori sama, brain fog didn‘t remember that name. Not much sleep the past two nights thanks to Loewe, hehe…
Oh mei, even pricklier, not sure that was possible… But it is sooo cute that sweater!

@zipporah Love your report and photos! So cool to see the decor! And wow those models really look sad…

Quick update for those interested in Paris (France) store: only the flagship Loewe Montaigne carries any of the HMC, sadly no fancy display in Le Bon Marché. It looked like quite a few reservations were made in advance (including me.... :) )

They said that what is left is on display. It's mostly calcifer items, and the castle bag that's not the big Frankenstein one. I didn't see either of the Howl amazonas, none of the magical sky leather items.

Heard that only 25 of the large castle bag were made worldwide, 10 for Europe and the 2 in Paris were already gone.

A few pics for eye candy:
