It is true. Envoyé Spécial journalists are real investigators.
The programme is followed by millions of people, in France and on TV5 Monde.
Everyone was talking about it the following morning.

Also in Italy a TV show made an investigation and found that a lot of Luxury brands produce bags in Italy with chinese subcontractors working off the books. That's the worst part, not because they are chinese, but because these greedy companies are taking advantage of them!! :nono:

But MCM bags are still of high quality, even though they're made in Korea. MCM bags that cost 1000€ and above are made in Italy.

Totally true. I personally know the artisans that make MCM bags in Italy (they are in Tuscany of course) and I can assure their work is exceptional. I'm seriously thinking about asking them to produce the first sample of the products I'm working on during these days.

What do you mean "even though they're made in Korea"? Do you mean that bags made in Korea are generally of low quality?

Just wondering since that hasn't been my experience at all. I have a beautiful Lovcat purse that was made in Korea, which still looks great after 10+ years. Just last visit a few months ago I was totally coveting my mother's Nimue (sp?) purse... very simple, reminiscent of Valextra.

Also fake bags made in Korea are known to be best quality among those who like that sort of stuff, though it is harder to find made in China ones apparently...

What I meant was that designer bags that are not made in Italy and Spain, for most people, are not of high quality, which is of course wrong. Not everyone is familiar with made in Korea bags.

I used to work with a young man that was involved with the production end of handbags for several well known companies.
This is what he told me:
Hardware on most bags comes from the same 3 or 4 hardware manufacturers. Coatings are what make the difference.
There is little to no difference between a $50 handbag and a $1500.
Materials: leather or not. Not leather once again comes from 3-5 makers and doesn't really differ between brands.
The biggest factor is SEWING. The competence of the person sewing the bag is the biggest differentiating factor.
Low end bags sold at big box stores are mass produced and made to last one season.
Truly high end bags usually have the best of all craftsmanship and materials. However, hardware only comes from a few places.
Hope this helps ladies.

Thank you for the info!

I remember one evening in a Middle East electronics boutique.
Three Chinese ladies asking for a made in Japan walkman.....whatever the brand..
The sale assistant said he had none!
Everything in his shop was made in China.
The ladies left empty handed....
I think they would have been delighted to show their friends a made in Japan Sony Walkman, just because......Sony is a Japanese brand...

Same with Longchamp. The Chinese ladies want MIF Le Pliage when they visit a French boutique....
Because Longchamp is a French brand...
Wow, scary example. I remember Sony electronics with "made in Japan" on them but have not checked as of late.

My Prada bag and wallets are all made in Italy but were purchased from the boutique. I read somewhere on tpf made in china items are usually from the prada outlets that exist? I'm not 100% sure but i made sure to check my items given the cost..
Hm, my impression was that last season items that weren't sold go to outlets...I do often buy from outlets, not only bags and not Prada so far but though.

The greed is what amazes me too. It almost causes me to have a love / hate relationship with high end fashion brands. I do want to admire them for their designs and quality...but their hunger for more profit ruins it a bit because it gives off a quantity over quality vibe. I think back in the day it was much easier to appreciate luxury goods as something special and well made...a good investment :(

This greed and doubling of prices has also caused counterfeiting to boom to the point where you don't know where what is even produced anymore.

Yeah that is true too. I saw a marketplace tv show report that said brands are also making items specifically for outlets only and then marking down prices from original costs that are already too high from their actual value. I also frequently purchase clothing and shoes from outlets and have seen last season stuff as well. My experience with tory burch and kate spade has been made in china. I have not experienced it with prada but do not have an outlet here in Canada so only can purchase from holts or boutiques and have only seen made in italy so far but yeah who knows now so many tricky things happening!

I only realized it later, but I bought a Prada from an outlet and it was MIC. While a sister of mine also bought from another outlet, a different style, and it was made in Italy.

My rule about outlets is: if I wouldn't buy it at the regular store, it's not a deal at the outlet.

I wonder if this only applies to bags or other goods also. I have not purchased a bag from an outlet yet, but clothing and accessories from yoox.com for example.

This doesn't really surprise me, tbh. This is one of the reasons I really like vintage bags; the leather tends to be good quality and they're usually inexpensive.
