A friend recently purchased a beautiful Lanvin tote, and after inspecting it (we're close friends), I noticed the label inside didn't have "Made in Italy" under the Lanvin logo. Since I recently had read about Givenchy and Prada having somewhat hidden labels showing where their bags were made, I began to look further into this tote. I eventually found the "made in" tag in the zippered compartment on a small piece of black leather (making it difficult to read against the black Lanvin lining). But the bag was made in Spain. I also noticed that Barneys had some Lanvin bag descriptions stating that the bag was made in Italy and others had no statement as to where the bag was made.
Do any other Lanvin owners have bags made in other locations than Italy? And does it affect how much you are willing to pay for the bag depending on where it was made? (My thoughts being that if it is cheaper for them to produce it somewhere else, the price should be less for the consumer). Any thoughts?
For the Amalia tote owners, do you prefer the larger or smaller size? Is the bag dressy in person or too slouchy? Like could I wear it with a suit in the fall? How does the leather hold up? I'm looking for a new fall tote bag and thinking about an Amalia in camel or red (would love taupe, but I don't think they are making that color anymore.)
^^Thanks Lily. All of mine are made in Italy. My friend's is made in Spain. It was purchased at BG, so we aren't really worried about authenticity (hope we don't have to be :wondering). It just got me wondering where all of them were made. I have found some shoes "made in spain" and this tote. Now I'm wondering where all of their bags are made--just Italy and Spain? Or are they produced other places too? I kind of hate to see the "made in" line be removed from the main label and be somewhat more hidden....I hope Lanvin isn't moving in that direction like some other brands have.
I understand her completely. I feel the same way. I was happy that my bag was made in Italy, if anything it is a reassurance of the quality. Still the retail price is steep. There are many Italian brands of comparable quality with lower prices.[/QUOTE]
Yes, with the ridiculous prices of some of the designer bags, it's getting harder to justify buying them even if I love the design. They're being mass-produced in quantites greater than ever before and the quality is going down, price is going up--I bet you can find some gorgeous lesser-known Italian bags for a fraction of the cost of "premium designers."
I think my friend only kept the bag, despite the price and it being made in Spain instead of Italy, because she did get a discount, AND really loved the seasonal design. Since it was made in Spain, it made me realize I'll have to look for the "made in" label on Lanvin bags I'm considering in the future--which makes shopping online a little difficult.
The coloring on your bag is tdf, btw. So pretty. Glad it's made in Italy.![]()
ALSO, another question, does anyone know what the shape of this Lanvin bag is called? Net-a-Porter just called it the Wrinkled Leather Shoulder Bag but Wrinkled Leather is a material I know other Lanvin shapes have also used.
I really think it's too rectangular to be a Happy, also Happys don't fold in on the sides like this one. And the clasp looks more like the Teacher Pouchette than a Happy bag. I'd dismissed that possibility. Was I wrong? As far as I now all the Happys have this hind of horn/bone closure so it is a Happy large wrinkled leather shoulder bag. I guess.
Does anyone know any good resources for past season Lanvins? I just fell in love with the navy velvet Happy Sac and I want it to be my first Lanvin.
I know velvet isn't practical, but isn't it just too sexy to resist?
So if anyone knows good resources for past seasons I should stalk besides FarFetch and Ann's Fabulous Finds I would really appreciate it!
