My first Coach was an all leather classic back in 1995 or 1996. It was a turn lock bag that was shaped line Penny but larger. The leather was to die for. Gifted to my mom some 3 years later. She still has it.

This seems like a fun thread! My mom bought me my first Coach bag. Don't remember the name but I see it in a lot in the collection thread.

Wow, they look great... Love that you dated your bags by events... Such rich associations :)

Thank you! I know, what you mean about the associations, although the backpack literally had a cup of milk spilled IN it by my oldest....lol! I vividly remember freaking out and sopping up the milk with a chammy I had in the car for drying things off. The bag was fine, but I lost a few months of my life! LOL!

I don't even know what this bag was called. This must have been 93 or 94. Can you tell from the baggy sweatshirt, leggings and big socks? My Junior or Senior year of college. Those boys ( my nephews) have children that are 3 and 5. Good Lord I am old!! LOL.

I had the Willis for years and I still think it is my all-time favorite Coach bag. I used that thing for YEARS!! I have no idea what I ever did with it. That was back in the day when I actually carried one bag for three or four years. Gasp!!!

Me too! I carried the Willis for years until I got the backpack, and then carried that for years too! I graduated from college in 92 and then graduate school in 94, so we must be of similar age. I find myself "feeling old" more frequently every day......sigh.....

This is my first bag, the op art sig Parker Hippie in khaki/sand with rosegold hardware. I was amazed at myself for spending so much money on a purse! But it was only the beginning! :graucho:

The irony is that before I went into the shop, I made a resolution to buy a practical black bag that would go with everything and last forever. But I picked up this beauty the moment I walked into the store and never set her down! I dutifully looked at all the practical black bags but I knew right away that she was coming home with me!

My first Coach purse was this baby here, my avatar ---

And I told my mother after getting this girl and the three MFF leather duffles (black, brown, and silver) I would never need another purse.:rofl::lolots::rofl::lolots:

But my first Coach items back in the day was the silver/gold lurex kisslock coin purse. Late 90's or early 00's. My mom had bought it for me as a special present at the PX. $40 for a coin purse was VERY extravagant at that time. I still hope it is packed up somewhere I haven't looked yet, but I've been trying to replace it for years.

Later, I got my sister and I green siggy kisslock coin purses that had a light strip of leather up the front at an outlet off 95. The green was so pretty. We both still have ours, this would have been mid-00's.

But the graphite/pink Candace - yep, all her fault! Went from a regular rotation of two purses and a messenger bag to 30+ purses in two years, all but one are Coach.

(I also have small collections of kisslock coin purses and legacy wristlets.)
That's gorgeous.

My first Coach was a leather classic of some sort that mostly closely resembled what is now the Penelope. It was a navy crossbody flap with brass turnlock. I got it from my parents in the preppy heyday of the early 80s. I am surprised they spent the money. I must have worn them down.
Nearly 30 years later, on vacation in Blowing Rock, NC, my boyfriend decided to stop at their little outlet mall for something. I saw Coach and went browsing to kill time. I didn't know FP from MFF, but couldn't believe the great prices. I fell for the subtle shimmer of the powder pink Ashley, and also came away with a peony siggy wallet and sig stitch black patent hobo. When the SA told me I'd "saved" over $500, I fell right for it all. I love(d) that Ashley so much that I sought out more info on Coach online and stumbled upon tpf.
Now between FOS, outlets, PCE, dept stores, and eBay, I have acquired dozens of bags and accessories since.
Some family and friends think I'm nuts, but it's been such fun.

I bought my first Coach in 2007 from Dillards, I had just decided to take a job out of state (and a nice salary increase as well), and I wanted something fun. I ran across this hanging in the display and loved the colors and textures. I still have this bag but she is boxed up because I'm preparing to move. I'm in total agreement with some of the others in this thread, I won't ever get rid of her.

I have to say I love reading everyone 's beginning Coach stories. My poor husband actually started my obsession when he bought me my first Coach for Christmas. We were in Minnesota celebrating with family for the holidays. It had been a really tough year and my sweet hubby said I needed a Coach purse. He had seen so many women carrying them at work, he thought I needed one. Little did the poor guy know;he was creating a monster..... LOL I posted this pic before but I'll post it again since I added my story. I love this bag!

This is my first bag, the convertible op art sig Parker Hippie 13420 in khaki/sand with rosegold hardware. I was amazed at myself for spending so much money on a purse! ...

I still have that bag and I posted a story about my first Coach shopping adventure a long time ago in another thread:
http://forum.purseblog.com/coach/share-your-story-how-did-you-fall-love-672753.html#post18492371

And I am delighted because I've just found pictures of her in the Coach Drill Down search tool!

OP, thanks for this trip down memory lane!

My Kristin Pleated Leather satchel (15990) that I got on eBay in September 2012. It was the perfect starter bag - classic, black, lovely leather. I sold it to my bestie's mom because I really want the studded version in the purple color and I try not to have two of the same bag. Still love it though - and it's nice that I kept it "in the family" so I can see her every now and again. :D

Beautiful bag, I have it in black patent leather
