The first Coach I owned was a black leather Soho hobo (I've seen a lot of siggy ones as firsts in this thread!) given to me by my daughter for my birthday. The second was a black tone-on-tone sig Hampton's carryall my hubby bought me as a Mother's Day a few years later. But the one I count as my first Coach (even though I think I may have actually bought a couple others before it!) is one I saw while on vacation in Washington DC, dangling on the arm of a stranger in a Caribou Coffee. I came out of the shop and told my husband I had just seen a Coach I HAD to have. I knew next to nothing about Coach, didn't know style names, etcetera... but I HAD to have that bag. A few months later, I practically mugged another stranger in Sam's Club because she was sporting the same bag, but all she could tell me was that she'd gotten it at the outlet a couple years before that.

It took me a few more months but I finally found her NWT on eBay. Patchwork Carly with metallic trim.

(Isn't it funny how many of our first loves are patchwork?)

I giggled when reading about your "mugging." I agree, funny how so many firsts were patchworks....:)

OMG, how heartbreaking that you had to return your first bag :(.
Oh well, you have a great collection today:)

Thanks! But it turned out ok...I lost the bag but also finally ditched the husband, so it's all good now, and now my purchases depend on no one's actions but my own!! :D

Lovely thread! Fun to see so many treasured Coach bags! I don't have much to show coz I only came to know Coach exactly 1 year ago, when I went from carrying a $6 red vinyl backpack from Walmart, to carrying this vermilion large legacy duffle from FOS. Since then I've been stalking every FOS sale and have collected many lovely Coach bags ... :p (my daughters in the pic, not me)

Mine was a Hamptons Summer Patchwork tote. It was my first "expensive" bag. I was sooo worried about getting it dirty that I could not enjoy it and sold it. Wish I hadn't. The first Coach bag I bought and kept was a holiday Pink Patchwork, this was a MFF; the Hamptons was a boutique bag. Then I did not know the difference and bought the tote Holiday PW tote on ebay. Took it to my Coach store to have it authenticated. Back then they would do that. Gawdy as all get out, but I still have this bag and carry it on occasion. You can tell I am a pink lover! It is funny because most of Coach collection are all leather now

I have a similar MFF tote in brown and I just love that thing to death. I am getting such a giggle in this thread with all the patchwork. It always cracks me up when there's a "what don't you like" thread and patchwork is a leading contender... I would say "all the more for meeeeee" but there's obviously a lot of other
patch lovers I'd have to share with!

My first Coach was a slim tote, sort of shaped like the n/s saffiano totes now, in all black signature fabric with black leather handles, trim, and bottom. I was over the moon. It was a lovely Christmas gift from a then-boyfriend, who then became an ex-fiance because he dumped me 8 weeks before our wedding day (this was back in 2004). It took me a very long time to get over, but I've forgiven him.

:( I'm surprised you didn't burn it.... Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise :)
