The first Coach I owned was a black leather Soho hobo (I've seen a lot of siggy ones as firsts in this thread!) given to me by my daughter for my birthday. The second was a black tone-on-tone sig Hampton's carryall my hubby bought me as a Mother's Day a few years later. But the one I count as my first Coach (even though I think I may have actually bought a couple others before it!) is one I saw while on vacation in Washington DC, dangling on the arm of a stranger in a Caribou Coffee. I came out of the shop and told my husband I had just seen a Coach I HAD to have. I knew next to nothing about Coach, didn't know style names, etcetera... but I HAD to have that bag. A few months later, I practically mugged another stranger in Sam's Club because she was sporting the same bag, but all she could tell me was that she'd gotten it at the outlet a couple years before that.

It took me a few more months but I finally found her NWT on eBay. Patchwork Carly with metallic trim.

(Isn't it funny how many of our first loves are patchwork?)

This is my first bag, the op art sig Parker Hippie in khaki/sand with rosegold hardware. I was amazed at myself for spending so much money on a purse! But it was only the beginning! :graucho:

The irony is that before I went into the shop, I made a resolution to buy a practical black bag that would go with everything and last forever. But I picked up this beauty the moment I walked into the store and never set her down! I dutifully looked at all the practical black bags but I knew right away that she was coming home with me!

Love this story.... Sometimes our heads and hearts don't see eye to eye :).

My first Coach was a leather classic of some sort that mostly closely resembled what is now the Penelope. It was a navy crossbody flap with brass turnlock. I got it from my parents in the preppy heyday of the early 80s. I am surprised they spent the money. I must have worn them down.
Nearly 30 years later, on vacation in Blowing Rock, NC, my boyfriend decided to stop at their little outlet mall for something. I saw Coach and went browsing to kill time. I didn't know FP from MFF, but couldn't believe the great prices. I fell for the subtle shimmer of the powder pink Ashley, and also came away with a peony siggy wallet and sig stitch black patent hobo. When the SA told me I'd "saved" over $500, I fell right for it all. I love(d) that Ashley so much that I sought out more info on Coach online and stumbled upon tpf.
Now between FOS, outlets, PCE, dept stores, and eBay, I have acquired dozens of bags and accessories since.
Some family and friends think I'm nuts, but it's been such fun.

I get teased by my mother all the time :)... LOL

The first Coach bag I can remember is the City Bag in British Tan. It was my undergrad graduation gift in 1988 from my Dad and step-mom. My step-mom always carried Coach. I kept that one for a while before giving it away but I think about buying a new one from time to time. I wish I had kept all those nice bags! :D

Such a classic style and color :)

My first bag was a Coach Dinky (now the Penny) in the dark green (hunter or forest?) with the British Tan trim, back in 1988. I was a freshman in high school.

I've come by my love for Coach honestly through my mom and grandmother. :-) I remember many trips to the Coach store with my grandmother when she was living. <3 This was the first of many more.
Keepin' it in the family:)

Ladies, I can't keep up with all the posts but I am thoroughly enjoying going down memory lane with you :) It's funny how the purse is more than just a purse sometimes:) # memorymaker , #keepsake, #sentimental value.....:)

****i added a picture of the Coach bag the girl at my job had that i WANTED SOOOOOO BADLY!! and that started my COACH OBSESSION **
Great story.....you are too cute:)

My first Coach bag was a black on black siggy Carly with silver hardware. I coveted that bag for months, and finally broke down and bought it, at full price(!), on a trip to Vegas, probably somewhere around 2007-2008 (I'm guessing). Sadly, my gambling addicted ex-husband lost so much money on that trip I had to return it the next morning without ever even taking it out of the bag.

My second Coach bag, also purchased at full price around 2008-2009, was a Poppy Jazzy Hobo in grey/black siggy with amazing bright purple lining. I adored that bag and carried it every day for probably two years. I just sold it on eBay last year, and it was hard to let it go. After two years of use it still looked brand new.
OMG, how heartbreaking that you had to return your first bag :(.
Oh well, you have a great collection today:)
