Ladies...Any RUDE/CATTY/SNIDE/NASTY Remarks about your Birkins or ANY Hermès Purchase

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

The comments about other members opinions on whether or not a college student should be carrying a Birkin or an expensive bag need to stop. The thread is about comments directed at you about the items you are carrying, and not about vilifying members because they disagree with you.

Thanks.

I have one.

15 years ago... carrying an ostrich Kelly. Stepping in at Benetton shop to collect some toddler clothing.

The SA looks at my bag and shouts :
"wow that is such a beautiful imitation ! It's perfect ! It is not worth to buy the real thing anylonger when you can get such a beautiful fake ! "

Me : Voiceless, I tried to stay polite and smile .... Anyway, I could not say a word.
perlerare,
I sooo understand your reaction: voiceless with a try to stay polite and smile.
This was 15y ago, how would you react these days, 15y older?
Thanks in advance for your answer,

My frens always make negative and sometimes quite nasty comments about others with high-end luxury handbags. That's why I only wear my H bags when out with DH or alone and never opt to carry one when out with frens.
I feel so alone n can only relate this joy reading TPF! But frankly, it's never the same sharing this H joy with someone IRL! So, apart from my H wish list, will be a list of H frens, hopefully soon!

Yes ... It's a good question...
I think these days, the same kind of person would not even recognise the "Hermesness" of my bag....because of the focus on the Birkin....all that last decade...
back then it was still Hermes bag = Kelly bag ( at least in France...)

perlerare,

thank for your answer. You might be right or not as a Kelly bag is a timeless bag with no age.

Best wishes, rr43

Same thing happened to me before. I just smiled.

never thought I would ever be posting in this thread because I never thought I would ever get a Birkin, but low and behold I have found one from a reputable reseller and its on its way too me:p:graucho:
with that being said I now know that this purchase will come with some side eyes from friends and one in particular who is out of work and struggling, I honestly dont even want to wear it around her for fear of what she might say. I am so hoping she is supportive, I have been there for her these past few months and buy her lunches and have taken her places. But she is also a new found friend and we have to get along because we run a ladies group together. I find that most catty and rude remarks come from within your own inner circle. Really hoping she understands because she is aware of my past struggles and misfortune and this Birkin is my dream bag to signify all my hard work these past few years. *sigh* thanks for letting me vent :)

Congrats on your first H bag!:flowers:I would be happy for any friend who got something they wanted regardless of my own situation. Hopefully your friend will be the same.:flowers:

Maybe she is just a "social" friend? True friends are not jealous, nor do they make snide remarks.

I ran into an old work friend today and was wearing my Kelly,
(She's never seen me use any nice handbags as the place we used to work at had security guards who handled and stored our bags quite rough)
When she spotted my bag her eyes widened and her first comment was "did your boyfriend buy that for you?"
I thought that was kind of a strange comment but took it lightly and just said "oh if only he was that nice to me!"
Second comment from her: "did your mum buy it for you? /is it your mum's bag?"
At this point I was pretty sure she was insinuating there was no way I could afford my bag and was pretty miffed.... I just replied "no, I saved up and finally took the plunge"

I know I'm not in a high paying job but I love handbags and would just rather spend money on bags than other things!
