People can be extremely nasty when it comes to people having more than them. My own family was very mean to me. Because I wanted a better life and would always talk about designer things. I don't own a Hermes bag yet. But I completely understand why it costs as much as it does. I could go on and on. But I won't. In the end you cannot please everyone you know, or people in general. Good thing that part of my family is more than 800 miles away. And I don't have to hear it anymore. I only call to see how they're doing.

If I ever have to deal with nasty people where I live now. I will ignore them, or tell them why they are out of line. depending on who they're and what they said.

In the end, if me, my husband,and his mom are happy and don't care. I don't care what others think. As long as they don't harass me. at least when it comes to friends and family.

That's the main thing: you/me have changed and the others haven't realised it yet!! The difficult is to make them understand but of course I want to give them the opportunity to realise it for themselves! After all if you say that you are a different person they will perceive it badly in most of the cases ! ;) Anyway, lately I am just amazed how, even close family, can't understand me and what I want for my life and for my family/kids!! :amazed::shocked:
You have a great life attitude, I love it!! :tup::tup::tup::yes:

:ty:Best of luck to you as well. Its a shame but often when you better your life situation yet others around you don't you get resentment from those people. Often I believe they take your wanting better for your own life as a snub to the life they lead. I encounter that a lot. Especially from my family but IMO life is too short to focus on that. I see myself as a continuous work in progress & a life long learner. I'm always trying to improve myself & my situation. Whoever has a problem with that I try my best to let that problem be theirs & not to take it into my own life. I have enough of my own problems. :p

Another incident happened a couple of months ago with my Birkin - I was standing in Georgetown Cupcakes in NY, and a lady just walked up to me, reached out and touched my purse, turned around and left - actually speechless

i know this happened to me at juicy couture in texas the lady touches my bag as im paying and turns to her friend or sister and says its real why would you pay so much ... and continued on the topic of how the birkin is not worth it... blah... blah... blah ......... i mean i just payed and the SA at JC and i just shared laugh !!!! but its soo funny it was almost the same thing !!!

I was fortunate to grow up in an affluent family. Both parents worked in medicine during it's Golden Age when talented physicians still earned a nice living. From them, I learned the value of a good education, hard work and the importance of giving back in society. We all share a passion for travel, for writing, and for getting involved in philanthropic causes. My husband and I continue the tradition of working hard while remembering to give back. Strangely enough, though my parents have led quite a nice lifestyle, they are oddly judgmental in the ways we choose to spend our hard earned money. When my father first saw my leather rivale bracelet, he commented "isn't that kind of expensive?" I don't dare bring any of my H bags around them as I have grown tired of the unwarranted comments. I think it is so important in life to remember that our "things" don't determine who we are and it would be lovely if those around us would stop judging us based on what we choose to wear or carry. The measure of a human being is in part determined by how we behave, how we love and how we give back to others. Just my two cents....:smile1:

I think you & your husband work hard for what you have &
enjoy it..

At different stages of life, people value things differently
and spend their money differently.

To me, what is important is the kind of person you are
now what you have or how much you spend.:smile1:

People just can't seem to resist touching a birkin. It's quite odd, especially if it's a stranger and this happens all the time...

I kind of understand if someone who can't afford nice things is judgmental because maybe birkins seem over the top compared to the education or necessities they cannot afford....

But my pet peeve is filthy rich people who do not care to spend on fashion / luxury goods who then judge others for spending on birkins, etc. Everyone has different priorities and appreciation for different things...I personally think it's frivolous to have a boat, or to have more than one nanny per child. But hey I don't judge anyone else for making choices like that...I do think for some reason, people love to target the birkin. Lots of people seem to make comments about birkins.

The only comments I hear from passers-by on the street about myBirkins is "Oh my God.". The negative comments I get are always from the men I know.
Who can explain it, who can tell you why?

These comments are so very, very accurate.

The funny thing is that it has been my experience that most of us on tPF who love H do so because it is subtle, it isn't logo-happy, and there is an element of quietness to it. We tend to care much more about workmanship and materials than about logos and blatant branding.

Because men don't wear bags and don't understand why we should spend so much in it.
Next time tell them that your Birkin is important for you as much as their Mercedes SLK is important for them, only with the following differences:
- it doesn't depreciate as soon as you leave the store;
- it has a good resale value;
- after having bought it, you don't fork out a single penny for insurance, taxes or fuel;
- it doesn't need a lot of maintenance to keep its beauty and functionality.

Oh my god - people are the worst! Haha - I just stood with my mouth open - Can you imagine someone's reaction if we went up and commented on their bag?!

Luckylove, I totally agree with your last sentence.

It is interesting because most people don't get judged badly because they own a $100,000 car or boat or whatever their passion is, so,why should we be judged by a handbag.

Exactly! It is such an individual choice on how to spend our hard earned money. Though I may not spend in the same areas as someone else, I fully support their right to make those choices with their money.
