Total nonsense as far as I am concerned! Enjoy your Birkin, carry it with pride and who cares...it only matters what you think. I have gone to Target and Walmart with my Birkin and you know what, so what?! I've carried it coming from the gym in sweat clothes...it's a great purse that can look as fancy and as casual as you want it to. I have combined my Birkins with inexpensive clothes, with really expensive clothes and with everything in between. It's about your own personal style.

Don't let a purse dictate who you are and what you want.

Moral of the story: your Birkin needs to conform to your life and you don't need to conform to your Birkin.

Totally agree with this!

Let we be the master of the bag:)

yesterday my birkin had raw chicken breasts, frozen dumplings and the day's shopping stuffed in it, and a shoe (got to get the heel fixed). it's not very glamourous...

do i match my birkin? i really don't know. i just know i love using it - grocery shopping, lunch with the girls, tpf meets, work, play, i leave it on the dirtfloor in the stables too in some farflung countryside (not posh). it also goes on company sponsored biz class flites, economy when i'm paying my own hhaa, no star to all star hotels...the birkin is just so versatile. no wonder all of us love it so much.

i DO know lots of stylish ladies who do not dress designer read exp clothes shoes and they carry their bs with style and aplomb, in nice restaurants and also local cheap eateries.

Don't you get those 'stares' like what are you doing here with that bag?
Maybe I am really so conscious..am I?

You are much too self conscious. I doubt anyone really notices - a Birkin is a very nonchalant bag - it doesn't scream designer and has a simple design. Most people don't even know what it is. The others usually don't really care (not to be rude but honestly I believe people have more important things to think about than what purse I'm carrying!)

can't control what people look at...

plus i've very bad eyesight therefore oblivious to people anyway. and i highly doubt people are going to spend their time/thoughts thinking about my bag

don't think too much, enjoy your bag

I agree with what the other fellow TPFers say above. It is a beautiful bag to be used. In my small town not many people know even what it is and I prefer it that way! I have mine for pure self appreciation for the bag. I have to go into the bigger cities for it to be noticed more often and, true, it does get recognized by those who know what a Birkin is but mine goes to both fancy stores, restaurants, etc and what some would call "cheapy" discount stores such as Walmart/Target. I purchased it to use it not store it, so that is what I do. Dont be self concsious of what others think. That is absolutely what makes a H bag lovely..there are no blazing labels or bling which says "look at me." Carry it for its purpose and it is likely most people wont even know the difference - just you and those "who know" - the way I prefer it. As far as taking it to very fancy restaurants, clubs etc., I usually dress up for those places and therefore need a smaller bag, like a clutch and that is when a Medor or Judith Leiber would come into play. Best wishes in your decisions.

Amen to that!

:yes::yes:

I wear mine wherever and whenever I like except when it's not practical for me to do so because I need to be hands free. You'll be surprised at how many people do not even know what a Birkin is let alone it's cost although this is changing due to celebrity status. At the end of the day if you spent the money on it use it other wise it is just a waste.

Hi, I don't pay attention if a place is expensive or not when I decide which bag to wear but I pay attention if the context is appropriate or not (and this does not necessarily has to do with the money), and I do this with everything not just H items.

I don't see why this thread (Self conscious when carrying your Birkin??) and the one from over a year ago were merged. They have a similar topic but definitely not the same one. One asks if we get catty remarks when carrying our Birkins. The other one asks how WE feel .. do we feel uncomfortable when carrying our Birkins. Seems really, really, petty to me to try to find a slightly similar thread and merge them. Really!!

Anyway, I'll play ...
In my town no one knows what a Birkin is thank goodness. Otherwise, I'm not sure how comfortable I'd feel carrying mine.

And to answer the other thread .. no, no catty remarks, either.
