Miss Marguax - I am sorry you had to deal with rude comments about your weight. You are right it is completely classless and tactless! I enjoy your posts and find you to be wonderfully beautiful and if you ever want to feel skinny I will be more than happy to come stand next to you! :D

jenyi - You do make sense! I had to learn to be quick with a sharp tongue comeback as I have been made fun of for my weight for almost 35 years, (lol the first time was in Kindergarten), so I guess it is a skill I have honed over the years! I do realize ignoring ugly rudeness is a great way to go, but being human sometimes I fail and let a zinger fly! :shame:

Thank you all so much for the kind words! Although I am new to the Orange Side, I am so thankful to have found tpf! I love being able to log on and share in everyone's "H" happiness and reveals, not to mention getting to read all the fantastic advice! Also I have seen some beautiful ladies be so supportive and giving to others, it really warms my heart!! Having "Orange Sisters" is a beautiful thing, I love being able to share my H items or obsessions with people who get it and will not judge! :hugs:

Sambina I hope you are doing well and being the optimist that I am I hope your friend, if he is a true friend, has realized it was out of line for him to act so inappropriately! Hopefully he has apologized! Yes the person who said that comment to me was rude, but at least she was a stranger, I am sure you hurt more hearing something rude from someone who is your friend.

Ok Ladies....I was wondering has anybody commented Men or Women NEGATIVELY on your Birkin or any of your Hermès purchases?
I went to lunch today with a male friend I've known for several years, I just got a 42cm Black JPG this past September...I decided to bring with me to lunch today...I beat him to the restaurant so I was already seated...my friend is ALWAYS LATE...oh BTW he's not gay but metrosexual and knows all name brand items...as we eat, drink a few white wine spritzers...my cell rings from my JPG...I reach for it and my friends EYES GET HUGE AS SAUCERS!!!!!!....."HOLY S**T!!!!...ARE YOU INSANE?"...he says to me....IS THAT REAL?....I admit I was a little slow from the wine...so I'm not really understanding what the fuss is about. HUH???....I say...he then says..."YOUR HERMES BAG....LIKE DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THAT COSTS?"..."WHY DIDN'T YOU BUY A LOUIS VUITTON OR COACH BAG?"...YOU COULD OF BOUGHT 10 BAGS FOR THE PRICE YOU PAID FOR JUST ONE....."I CAN'T BELIVE THAT YOU OF ALL WOMEN WOULD BE THAT DUMB AND SPEND THAT MUCH MONEY ON A POCKET BOOK!!!!!"....I was in such shock by the negativity, I really didn't have a response. I never experienced this...most of the time when I wear either of my Birkins...NOBODY EVEN KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE!!!! (I guess because I live in Brooklyn and don't live in Manhatten).
Has anyone else had this happen?...from friends?...or just random people off the street?....I would love to hear your story!!!!!

Ok so I had a chance to have lunch with my friend again this past friday (1/15), I made sure to bring my 42cm JPG...because this time I wanted to tell him how rude/tasteless his comment was!!!
Well during lunch, I said to him that it was inappropriate for him to insult me for purchasing my Birkin. He apologized and told me that at first he was caught off guard...and he never was that close to one...he said he only had seen a Birkin on tv, movies, and from a distance while shopping...but NEVER ONE THAT WAS 2 INCHES AWAY!!! He said he realized that he had such an overwhelming rush of thoughts when he saw my Birkin he just blurted out what was going through his mind...not thinking that it was offensive. He said it was like being "STAR STRUCK"....its when you always wanted to meet a celebrity and you think you will always know that you'll say the PERFECT THING and when you do ACTUALLY MEET...you become A BABBLING IDIOT!!!...LOL.
So its water under the bridge now...he told me how beautiful the bag was...asked if he could touch it & smell it..lol...after 4 months it still has the NEW LEATHER SMELL!!!!

Thank You EVERYONE for all your support and sharing your stories as well!!!

That's great - thank you for the update. I know what you mean by babbling idiot (was the same when I accidently met Richard Gere!). At least you can appreciate H together now! :D

Interesting Sambina~
Glad you and your friend are back on track.
He 2nd reaction closely matches the ones I have had. Once while shopping at a suburban Nordies where the young male clerk asked me in a whisper.." ....is that is real Birkin? May I touch it?"
Or at a Mil Event where ar young female Col. in her BDUs came up and said, "Ma'am I could not help noticing is that a Birkin? I never thought I would ever see one in real life".
And she was so sweet and told me she was saving for a special LV and she loved bags and thought she would never have a Birkin but was so excited to actually see one. She was for better description awe struck.

So in fact Sambina, his reaction was genuine though poorly expressed. It would have been sad if your friendship had been fataly hurt by your beautiful Bag and his inappropiate initial comments.

Sambina, I'm glad that this story had a happy ending, and no wine spritzers had to be "sacrificed." I'm sure that this experience taught him a valuable lesson, as well, and next time, he'll think before opening mouth and inserting foot. Good for you!:D

 This is great news! I am so glad he was honest and apologized and your friendship was not negatively affected!

btw I love to smell my birkin too, one sniff and I am sure he was in love with it! :D

Thank you lily25 & lilyhermes...I guess you can say I'm a firm beliver in "To err is human...to forgive is divine"..lol.
I was just glad he realized he was sort of rude...it could of went south, we all have at least one friend that won't admit when they are wrong and won't apologize!!!
Plus this also was a big step for me because normally I don't confront people when they say something that either rubbed me the wrong way or hurt my feelings....its usually because when I do try to confront someone...they don't take responsibilty for their actions and try not to be accountable for their poor behavior. And its frustrating trying to explain why YOU'RE THE ONE THAT'S HURTING and get them to even acknowledge it!!!!
So overall this was good for me!!!!
Thanks TPF'ERS!!!!...Hearing your stories and your comebacks really helped me!!!

good on you that you brought it up, i know it takes quite a lot to bring it up to a friend. also good on your friend for being so open with his explaination. i'm glad the two of you can now enjoy H together and this little frisson definitely strengthened the friendship. i do love a happy ending :)

Am so pleased Sambina:smile1:

And I think you did so well setting that boundary, all will be well in the future and I can understand how your friends explanation, its a positive and can only have made your friendship deeper with understanding.

you just go ahead and enjoy all of your Hermes items, living in New York is stressful enough w/o having so called friends add stress to you life with comments like this. I quite agree with you about the car observation, ever hear the old adage, the difference between men and boys is the price of their toys and/or cars?
you dont get your self worth from Hermes or your friends, but from being a good person, which you are since his comment affected you this way.
Enjoy all your Hermes items and wear them in good health!

2 weeks ago while boarding on a plane one of the women (that work for the airport) at the gate (there were 3 of them) was giving me dirty mean looks because of my SO Kelly, and an Hermes shopping bag (hubby got me a twilly at the airport).
I felt uncomfortable so I shoved the H bag in the SO Kelly.

When we started boarding she stopped me and made me open my cabin luggage (for security reasons as she said although I passed the security without any problems). She didn't find anything wrong with the case, and she then told me to put my hand bag in the cabin luggage. She let everyone else pass the gate with tons of bags and luggage and I had to squash my poor So Kelly.

Anyway she probably wanted to confiscate it, or plain hated my guts. I didn't resist and I did as she told without saying anything. I always travel light and I travel a lot, so this was a first for me. I know she was out of line but I let it go... My hubby was super angry at her but I asked him to stay calm and not make a scene.
