What a fantastic post! I agree and a lot of times do a great job at just ignoring someone that is being mean. LOL of course other times I fail miserably :shame:

I have only had my Birkin for 4 months and have not heard but one super rude comment. Dh and I went out of town for the weekend and while he went to the restroom I stood outside the restaurant waiting and I heard a woman say to her friend, "Oh my God look at that fat ladies bag, if someone like her, (obviously she meant someone as fat as me), has a real Birkin and I don't, I will just die". I should have ignored her but unfortunately like I said, sometimes I fail miserably at being gracefully like lilach. I turned to her and said, "First of all I am fat not deaf, second of all please do the world a favor and draw your last breath because this is the real deal!"

I don't understand mean people but they are out there and will try to suck the joy right out of other people lives, don't let them! ;)

I LOVE GREAT COMEBACK!!!!

maybe because my brain is not fast enough to respond to them. No rude comments about birkins but something else. I even forgot what! but that incident took place a long time ago.

That is such a shame. I am sorry that you had to experience that. People can be very offensive, especially when it comes to someone's weight. At times like that, sometimes you shouldn't even ignore it. I think your comeback was great!

Laney I'm so sorry this happened to you.

I've not had rude comment about my birkin. Closest was one of my best friends telling me not to buy it because she felt a birkin was not worth the money but we settled that and she is still one of my best friends.

But I have had rude comments about weight. Basically I consider anyone who talks about someone's weight in that way or similar to be stupid, classless and tactless.

That was a great comeback. Fantastic. Good for you

Laney, wow...I wish I could think of comebacks like that. Seriously, that was very witty of you. I am quick tempered but slow minded (does that even make sense), anyways, if someone made a rude comment about me, I would get so angry, but speechless at the same time because I woudln't know what to say.

people have always talked, i suppose its not that surprising really, some complementary, some far less so, some incredulously, and i prefer to ignore but what i find amusing is that the most vocal supposedly anti-luxury people often secretly call a few days/weeks/months later to ask for help in finding a (suddenly discovered-decided they can afford it after all that criticism..) holy grail! Its like people have strong reactions against what they secretly desire but can't get for whatever reason.

I like h for their quality and timelessness and the only uncomfortable thing i now experience is that due to accessibility of info from internet etc, some people think they can make judgements on others based on bags!?!!

it was lovely and peaceful back in the relatively incognito days when production was smaller and fewer people knew what they were or what they cost.... that said, i love looking at pics of other members collections and colors here on tpf so i guess curiosity is an almost universal trait :)!

I feel awful now for reading and posting on this thread while the monumental suffering in Haiti is taking place...:((

Tibaka, don't feel badly for being on TPF because of what happened in Haiti - that tragedy would have happened whether or not Hermes ever existed. All we can do about Haiti is to help out as best we can.

OP: ha ha that's such a tacky thing for him to do... sadly i have had acquaintances who thought it fit to comment on how i spend my money. i'm grateful that my family is well-to-do, and the men in my life shower me with H goodies... so of course i've dealt with these catty comments before. just shrug them off like the gentleman that he couldn't be, lol! i don't know why people do that honestly. i would be so embarrassed to be that rude...
