That goes to show you how out of touch I am....I had NO IDEA that you could even buy a fake Birkin in NYC...I knew that they "supposedly" came down on the counterfit LV'S, Pradas, Gucci, Coach bags in Chinatown/Canal St...UGH!!!....I'm a little dissappointed!!!!...its one of my reasons why I wanted a Birkin, I thought they weren't copied...well are the Birkin fakes as bad as the fake LV's???....like can you see it from a mile away, here in NYC the handles and the trim are ALWAYS A DEAD GIVE AWAY!

Some are as bad or worse than LV fakes.

Some, however, are very VERY good. Which is so disheartening. But I know what I have and I am the only one who needs to know, I suppose. I like H for me. Who cares what anyone else thinks?

880, I do agree that here in NY, most people are more likely to assume they're fake, which doesn't bother me a bit since I guess I've grown quite accustomed to that perception.

And that experience, that must have been scary! I'm still wondering if she was trying to poke fun or if she really liked your dress; the words "large and aggressive" may play a part in my believing that she wouldn't be commenting on a pretty dress! Hope you're not offended, because I'm sure your dress was absolutely gorgeous but we can never get accustomed to being yelled at like that about our appearance. I hope nothing similar to that has happened to you since!

KurlyChild, thank you. I was worried for a second, but realized she was just paying me a compliment. If I had OP's experience with a friend, I would be freaking out - not just because WTF re friend, but if someone overheard our conversation, I would be worried about being pickpocket target or worse when I got up from the restaurant.

Sambina I am sorry for your friends reaction. Get what you love and enjoy it, try and ignore negativity, especially about something that brings you joy!

never had any real problems and even if i would i would just ignore them nowadays. i am old enough to know it is not a good idea to throw my good time into a conversation that most likely won´t have any outcome.
people makeing blatant statements about various topics never want to engage into a real informed conversation (otherwise they could easily research on the internet) they just want to stir things up.
since i am not existing to amuse or entertain them there never was is or will be any reaction .
it is the best way to handle such things in my opinion anything other just gives them what they want/need.

What a fantastic post! I agree and a lot of times do a great job at just ignoring someone that is being mean. LOL of course other times I fail miserably :shame:

I have only had my Birkin for 4 months and have not heard but one super rude comment. Dh and I went out of town for the weekend and while he went to the restroom I stood outside the restaurant waiting and I heard a woman say to her friend, "Oh my God look at that fat ladies bag, if someone like her, (obviously she meant someone as fat as me), has a real Birkin and I don't, I will just die". I should have ignored her but unfortunately like I said, sometimes I fail miserably at being gracefully like lilach. I turned to her and said, "First of all I am fat not deaf, second of all please do the world a favor and draw your last breath because this is the real deal!"

I don't understand mean people but they are out there and will try to suck the joy right out of other people lives, don't let them! ;)

I am really upset that happened to you, how dare she!, but anyone acting like that has real deep issues that probarly makes them very unhappy.

Your beautiful inside and out she is/was not, I do believe in Karma and what you sow you reap and this lady is cupboard to me will be very bare

Wingnut I could do with some lessons. :smile1:

Oh Wow Laney that was a brilliant come back. She totally deserved it!

Thanks Suzie! LOL I guess it did shut her up as I didn't hear anything else and when dh came out of the restaurant and we left she was no where in sight. Maybe she was around the corner dropping dead because it was real! :p

Hermesforlife~ thanks I love being called brilliant! ;) Honestly I should have been a class act and held my head high and ignored her but... I have shared this secret before so I guess it's not a secret but I love using the First of all...in a comeback because it gives you time to think to bring home a real zinger for the second of all! :D

:hugs: Ardneish what an amazingly sweet thing for you to say, thank you! It upset me for a brief moment but after I said my piece I knew I had to let it go. I get a lot of rude comments about my size, (lol even though I am working on losing weight and getting healthy), but I just tell myself let it roll off, like water off a duck's back! I have so much I am thankful and grateful for, I am married to the most amazing man and we have a fantastic wonderful life together, so I can't waste time worry about some rude comment. :nogood:

:wtf::wtf:OMG I am horrified that she said that!!! I think your response was perfect and so appropriate, however if I had been within earshot I think I would have given her a :rtr::bagslap: before you could have responded...how unbelievably rude of her!

880, I love your story. I'm with you, I think that lady's compliment was sincere--she loved your dress! And how nice to be reminded that we can't judge people with a look, for good or ill. And Laney, you are a freakin' genius. Will you please write comebacks for me? AWESOME response. I haven't had any negative remarks on my H yet (at least, none within earshot) but if it ever happens I only hope I can be either as forbearing or as razor-sharp as the ladies on this thread!

Don't you ever let people like that get to you! :hugs: I seriously can't believe people making comments like that. If I ever were to witness such a thing I'd forget I was carrying a birkin and put that awesome quality leather to good use! :bagslap: (And that's coming from somebody, who usually tries to make sure not to "bump" into things, when carrying my baby ;))

Laney, you are the Comeback Quip Goddess in my opinion! Brillant and congratulations for superb fast thinking there. I usually think of the perfect thing to say about an hour after the incident has taken place!

I hope you taught her a very valuable lesson. Maybe she'll think about it before opening her big ignoramous mouth the next time!
