I find la mer is great for moisture where as la prairie is great for oily skin. La P have a great range of products (including a daily foam cleanser) to help with oily skin. All my face products are with La P, and help with my skin. I did not find that la mar could offer this, however, my hand cream is defiantly la mer

I just read through the thread and learned so much! I have been using the La Mer creme and haven't even tried La Prairie. With what I've read it need to get some samples and try it too.

The one La Mer product that I can't live without is the lip balm. I had my make-up done at NM last year and the associate used it (it wasn't even the line I was trying) and I had to have it. Never would have thought that I'd pay so much for lip balm, but I do love it.

I've only tried samples from each line but find I like LaPrairie better. LaMer did not do much for my skin as with LP I could see results. I haven't checked out either line lately (using lots of drugstore stuff these days). but it seems LP has more choices in their skincare line. I did purchase the full size microdermabrasion kit and enjoyed that along with the firming mask. As far as the makeup, I've only used LP lipstick and liked it though somewhat pricey, last I remember $50/tube.

I have only used a few samples of La Prairie and i do like it. However i use La Mer and I am in love with La Mer. Their foundation is amazing! Better than any foundation i have tried to date. (i have not tried La Prairie's)... As far as the skin care, I love the foam cleanser, the serums, and the Gel Moisturizing. I like the cream but only at night, some nights of the week as a treat. My skin is more combo, therefore the cream can be heavy sometimes.
The only thing i would not re-purchase is the eye cream. It is nice, but i do not feel it has done much for my lines. I feel the sample of the La Prairie eye cream is doing better.

first, i live in a tropical country ^^.. :)

i have psoriatic skin especially on my face, and HEARD that la mer would help this. instead, it made me itch more and have a lot of redness.

my parents use la prairie skincare, and loved the smell of skin caviar, so i tried it on my face. i've been using it for a month now and it has definitely cleared my face of psoriasis/rashes.

hope this helps!

You picked 2 really good high end skincare lines to compare, I'm curious too what others out there think. I have not used La Prairie, but have used creme de la mer (sparingly due to the high cost) and I absolutely love it even though I find it a little too thick in the summer.

I think it depends on what type of skin do you have. LP has different lines. I personally am not a fan of LP. I've used La Creme de La Mer. It's a good moisturizer foe dry skin. If you have very dry skin or live in really dry weather (I do), I think you should consider trying Fresh Creme Ancienne. It's very rich so it's definitely not for oily skin at all. I only use it at night. It looks greasy when you first put it on but it absorbs in the skin over night.

There are certain products I like of La Mer (eye balm, regenerating serum, the mist). But as far as seeing results I have to say they didn't wow me. The regenerating serum did help my mom's turkey neck though. La Prairie I can't comment on since I only had samples and they weren't right for my skin.

Just for reference I'm 29 and have combination skin with mild breakouts.

For day cream I usually wear just sunblock (Natura Bisse? spf 30). Since it's winter my skin gets super dry so I wear a basic moisturizer (MAC Studio Moisture cream) before I use sunblock.

I exfoliate at least once a week with Bulgari Radiance Facial Exfoliator and use Malin+Goetz detox face mask once a week.

At night I like to use ReVive Moisturizing Renewal Cream (it kind of burns/tingles so keep away from eyes). For my eyes I use Dr. Sebagh Eye Expert at night.

I mix a lot of brands. Best thing is to go to the counter that you're interested in. It may be that both La Mer and La Prairie suit your skin. But the best way to find out is to try it on. HTH

I love la mer for the cold winters here in nj. In the spring to fall I use revive day and night creams and love them also. Where you are makes a big difference in what you need for your skin. La mer IMO would be to much in a warm climate it's more for cold and dry skin. Revive works great on my skin especially when I've been sitting on the beach all day in the summer.

La Mer: poor selection, only one product per skin type (basically dry - original cream; combo - lotion; oily - gel), and mainly good at MOISTURIZING.

La Prairie: I LOVE this brand cuz it has a great selection - MANY lines for ALL your needs (Radiance, Caviar, Platinum, Whitening, Marine Bio....etc); above all, no brand beats La Prairie's eye creams and my fav is Skin Caviar Luxe Eye Cream. If you want anti-wrinkle, this is the brand for you.
Downside - much more expensive than La Mer
