No, just trying to understand. I thought the whole point of this forum was to help share ideas, knowledge, experiences etc.. among fellow tPF members. So when you start a thread like this, naturally other members in similar situations as yours would be asking you questions and just figured you'd be comfortable enough to relay that information freely in your thread or at the very least through PM. I guess I was wrong.

No, you were right...I was sharing ideas, knowledge, and experience....and as we often do excitement. I think that it is inappropriate to be judgmental or negative about someone not being comfortable sharing specific information. Hmmm....was excited to share my good news....now kinda wish that I had not.:shrugs:

Ummm...yeah. since stores in NY & CA have said no, I'd be interested in which boutique told you yes. Anyway if it's Chanel's new policy it shouldn't be some secret so it hardly matters if you say where. You don't have to name your SA if you'd rather keep that private.

I want black hardware put on my black jumbo:nuts:
Maybe if someone has a good relationship with SA they will give another answer (YES) compared to some people just cold calling to boutiques and inquiring. I am going to check with a very trusted SA and see if she has any insight.......

Great idea. I think that this is right. I think that it is something new that Chanel is doing and i would think that your SA can help you. Maybe it will help if you mention to her/him that you know of someone else who just had hardware changed on a jumbo. Good luck getting it done.

From what I know there is only one place that does all the Chanel repairs in the US and that is in NY. So if the OP had her bag changed, it would have gone there, it's the only place. Therefore, I would push for those of you that have a close relationship with an SA to send an email instead of just giving you a "no" because sometimes policies change and they do not know about it. It could also be a relatively recent change and I imagine people don't really inquire often.

I had a similar experience with sealing light colored lambskin. I was told it could not be done a hundred times over until one of my SA's emailed and they told her they would do it! Now all my light colored lambskins are sealed, by Chanel!

Hope that helps!

Forgive me for my ignorance, but what is done during the sealing process? Does it mean it has sort of rain-proofed/dirt-proofed the bag? Have you done it for beige claire lamskin before? How much is it if I may ask? thanks so much!

Not on beige claire, but I did it on my yellow jumbo and my red jumbo, both lamb. The yellow was because it was so light and the red to lock in the color. Essentially, it's a coating they put on the bag. Can ONLY be done through Chanel, so don't take it to someone that claims they know what they use, because it's not worth the risk. When you first get it back it will feel like your lambskin is less porous and more durable. It feels a TINY bit stiffer, but then it just goes back to normal. I've noticed that it keeps it from scratching as easily too...WAIT, it makes it a little more difficult to scratch, but this is lambskin, so it's naturally still prone to scratches. Anyways, I would contact your boutique because they have to send it out and tell them to actually ask and that you know people that have done it and it IS possible. A lot of these SA's simply say no and don't bother checking. It cost me around $100 (give or take because I can't remember the exact figure). Hope that helps!

Oniomaniac, thanks so much for the detailed info! appreciate it lots :) I will ask my local boutique :)

OP, I fully understand your concern on sharing your SA or boutique info here. I'm so grateful that you shared this great info here with us! At least now we get to know it is possible to change the HW!

As for Chanel's customer service, it is indeed helpful to have a regular SA with close relationship. Repair does not give any SA commissions and it took them a lot of time also. Most of them will avoid unnecessary trouble and simply say NO to general enquiries.

OP, you are really lucky to have such a good and helpful SA who's willing to go extra miles. I'll try my luck then ;)
