issue with Borough hardware

Yes. You can even see receipts in the burough thread where women are buying them at that discount. What a kick in the teeth, huh?

CoachCruiser, I am THRILLED to hear that you are happy with the resolution and that you stood up for yourself!! I'm also very happy that the SAs didn't give you any BS about it being too late.

I haven't been in the Borough thread but it is beyond a kick in the teeth to say the least. Why would Coach do that? It is a stupid business decision. Makes me furious with myslef that I bought one at full price.

Coach Cruiser: Very happy to hear the result of your call. Coach did the right thing for you and you deserved the right thing to be done.

So glad you spoke up, and problem is resolved to your satisfaction.

However..... I checked my Alpine Moss this morning, which has only been carried a handful of days.....then tucked in her dustbag, for at least the past month. It also has LOTS of black pitting/marks on the hardware. I know my SA will make it right, but it's so frustrating, because I LOVE the Alpine Moss. And I don't think there's a guarantee the new batches won't do the same thing. UGH.

Sadly, this appears to be an ongoing issue with Coach over the years....I recalled other lines/bags have the same type of issue with their hardware.....See some older threads I found below.
Really makes me think twice about buying from FP (even with a PCE or similar discount).:nogood:

Did you end up doing the swap in lieu of waiting for the bag to come back from repair? I have a new Bleecker commuter bag which is fantastic but I had to go through many exchanges before I got one without any damaged leather (severe indentations, misaligned handles, ink marks, etc). The quality seems to be so hit or miss unfortunately!

Jan1124: I'm really sorry to hear that happened to your bag as well! Take it back - Coach needs to hear that this is happening! It's really not right.
Yes, calkenneth, I was able to do a swap for the items since they had not yet sent it back for repair (?!)...which makes me wonder, what are they going to do with the borough? Send it back as damaged?
KricketCollects and Izzy: thank you so much for your kind words of support. I do feel lucky that I had great SAs helping me.

I'm glad you had a satisfactory resolution CoachCruiser.
I purchased my Alpine Moss Borough in mid October. It was the first week they were available at my Coach store and they were not even on the floor yet.
I have worn it quite a bit but I take great care of my things. When it is resting it is in a linen box in my closet.
I did notice black scratches, tiny black pits and one small area that looks like plating loss on the two zipper pulls. It does not show up well on a picture as it is fairly faint and small.
From a distance they still look nice and shiny. I'm fine with it as is but I wouldn't be happy if it gets a lot worse.
I may wait and see but if it does get worse it may be too late to get a replacement and I love this color!

Thanks too, for your kind words. I shop at a Flagship Boutique - have talked to them, and they want me to bring it in. See next post for information.

I'm sorry yours is doing this as well. I purchased mine before they were on the floor as well. Unfortunately, this is the type of problem with the hardware that will continue to get worse on it's own. Even without use. Mine has been in the dustbag for quite some time - and I really only carried it 4-5 times.

I talked to my SA, and she researched it in depth. Apparently there haven't been enough complaints to issue a corporate memo. Customer Service isn't aware of the problem yet. They can replace the bags - however - the Alpine Moss still in JAX - and ones throughout all of the boutiques are all from the same run - ie, same hardware. So even if I got a new one, the hardware will probably eventually do the same. As I said - I love the color - but if the hardware is even more black and pitted next year - I won't be happy.

I remember the hardware on the "Elevated" styles in the Kristen line from 2-3 years ago had a problem with hardware - Coach pulled all of the bags, and had the hardware replaced - and if you had one, you could return for replacement.
It's hard to say if Coach will do this with the Borough, since it's so late in the season, and they're just now becoming aware of the problem.

Another thought - I remember quite a few people complained about the zippers on the Mini Borough in Alpine Moss - so I'd guess all of the silver hardware - zippers and pulls - were of bad quality.

Thank you for that very detailed response jan1124 and very interesting information.
My Oxblood with brass hardware was purchased on the same day. I've only carried it several times in total compared to my AM which I carry 3 times a week.
It looks new so maybe it is just the silver hardware.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it. I paid full freight on this, well 550, as it was before the price increase. I don't expect perfection. I also don't want to end up with a bag I've had several months with blackened zipper tabs either.

I wonder if it's only the AM? I forgot if anyone mentioned other colors, sinus meds... Or if it's only pebbled leathers? What happens if you bought the bag at another retailer? I bought my AM at Coach and will be watching it, but I bought a glove tanned leather at Macy's.

So...it must be the silver hw only, then?? How bizarre. That's the thing, the zipper pulls and hooks/etc were already so pitted with black, I was afraid of what it would look like in the future! It's a shame, because when I was exchanging my bag the other day, I saw the lovely chambray blue boroughs with silver hw and thought, "No way. Not another borough."
They really need to address this problem if they're pushing it as their "it" bag this year and charging astronomical prices.

I have been following this thread and finally checked my brand new, never used, patiently waiting for the better weather AM borough...I have found a few black marks on the rings that connect the handles to the bag...very alarming indeed.I will be calling the store and hopefully stopping by for an exchange.I got this bag just before the price jump and never took it out of the house.Actually, now thinking back, I did notice that those connecting rings and the connecting hardware on the long strap was kind of very light and flimsy (for the metal), but did not think it would tarnish, just thought it might break easily, I wonder now what metal Coach used.

I looked at my medium alpine moss and sure enough.... one of the zipper pulls and the hardware has dark, pitted marks. Darn it....I can only assume this will happen to the rest of the hardware on this bag??? I was so hoping not to see this...I love this bag. :(

It looks to me that this hardware issue might only be with Alpine Moss, since I just got back from the store and carefully looked over all the other boroughs with the silver hardware and they all had better and improved hardware. We really had to compare it side to side with my AM to see the difference and I am very glad that my SA was very understanding and she was as amazed as I was to see the change in the hardware. However, I do love this bag and I decided to give it another chance and ordered another one in hope that they might of have changed the hardware in the middle of production...and so I keeping my fingers crossed that the one I get will have better hardware. By the way all the gold ones looked fine to me.
