Unfortunately this is within usual quality norms nowadays but that is kind of extreme and may get worse over time or not. This is if you’re talking about the one area near the base of the flap. I cannot see significant issues elsewhere although you can see minor similarly too tight pulled stitching along the whole edge of the flap (normal nowadays and virtually impossible to find a bag without, but not in the old days, at least my general impression from the internet and having not owned any older bags). For reference I’ve owned 2 CF made in last 2 years.
Is this a defect, is this normal for this Chanel item?

I got my first Chanel bag 3 weeks ago and I need your expertise on this.
It seems like the leather in the chain is showing some wear where it meets the flap. I attached some photos. Is this normal? Or am I being too picky and paranoid?

This could be where the thread ended and was tied off and the new knotted thread starts. You would be better able to see than I, but that is how sewing ends when a thread is too short to continue on. Hth
The edges looked rubbed and in the last photo is the leather dried out? I would want a new chain. I do not know these days if Chanel will replace just the leather but years ago when I sent a bucket bag to spa they replaced the whole chain and leather system.
Thanks for your answer. I don’t know really what is going on but does the leather wear out that quickly in 3 weeks like that. I am worried that this will be the case for the entire bag in the future.
No leather does not wear out in 3 weeks, 3 years. I want to say just ask any animal but I won’t because they aren’t gonna tell you. Joking aside, this is not normal. Even if the chains were dragged across concrete, the metal links would protect the leather to some degree. When my bag was spa’d it was after years of carrying it every day because it was only bag. The leather was faded and when it came back, it looked brand new. Chanel did replace the entire chain because I think it would take longer to replace just the leather, a guess on that. I have to wonder did someone use it and return it? Even so i cannot come up with the answer to how the edges look like they do. If you really love it and want to keep it, it would be worth going to the place of purchasing and say find me a replacement or fix it. I wonder, too if you are close to a boutique where you can speak to the store manager to get their input regarding replacing the bag or the strap. It will come down to how much effort they are willing to spend to make this right.
The store is 15 minutes away from me. I just returned from the boutique they did not return or replace and said this is not their decision but Paris needs to do the end decision about it. If I wanted it they will send it to Paris because they said the decision of the quality issue needs to come back from Paris. Honestly I dont know what to do at this point.

No, that's not normal, that's terrible. Something is chafing.
Not only is that not normal with a new bag hardly worn, that's not normal with a vintage.

Honestly, that does not even look like leather. I would not even go as far as bonded leather. Bring it back and be firm with them. This is unacceptable.
Hi, I am new here. I just purchased my first WOC from Chanel during my trip to Luxemburg (living in Germany) and really excited. I bought it 2 weeks ago. But after 2 weeks I noticed something at the edge of the flap. It is totally unworn since I bought it. I dont know if it's already there, but I already inspected the bag before purchasing or it happen when I try it on a few times at home. Can you guys see it? Should I ask for exchange or ist normal to have this kind of wear /scratches? It is lambskin btw.
Hi everybody! So i saw someone had this black classic mini rectangle for sale, and wanted your guys opinions about some small things on the bag that I wonder about. My questions it whether the flap is align on both sides? I feel the right corner is sticking out a bit. Is that normal? And the leather on the chain is also sticking out of the grommet. Also last.. does the flap stick out from the bag too much or would you say that is normal ? Thank you for looking !
