Is the Hermes "Birkin" worth the money and the wait? Is it obtainable?

Is it WORTH it?
My sensible side says no. I don't have any Hermes pieces yet, but I can also ask myself are my LVs worth it? No. Are most luxury items I own worth it? No. I'm quite realistic about certain facts for me and I really don't think that most of them are worth the money.
However with this said, I do think that HAPPINESS is worth everything. If you are happy owning an Hermes Birkin, then I strongly support you getting one. Yet, the same happiness can be applied to just about to everything else. I can be happy owning a piece of rock which can be well worth it as long as my mind says so.
There's a great deal of psychology going on imo, and the rest is purely clever marketing skills and social patterns/lifestyle.

Is it obtainable?
As long as you have money, ALL material items are obtainable.

Lol, There's a lot more room in France or even Europe for making Bags rather than inside Paris. Made IN France =/= Made IN Paris. In Fact, the Pantin factory is not in the city of Paris at all, allthough it's right on the border.

Good point...lol! When I first read VLL's post, I instantly thought ~

Paris = France ....so, 'outsourced' = un pays étranger.

That's what I get for marrying a Parisien.:roflmfao:

The only ones that are still made in Paris are the exotics. The rest are "outsourced."

I'm intrigued to know what is meant by outsourced.

In Europe no item is legally allowed to be marked as having been made in a particular country unless it has actually manufactured there. So whether or not a bag has been made in Paris it has most definitely been made in France.

I read a story somewhere that as Hermes have expanded in an attempt to reduce waiting times for bags they decided to invest in a town in France with extreme unemployment. They trained up locals as craftsmen and have aided in the regeneration of that particular area. Hermes are and always will be fiercely proud of their French heritage.....it's a crying shame that the same can't be said for the likes of Hunter and Burberry

Laboheme LMAO, you're not doing a great job working off stereotypes this way you know. :p

I know, I'm awful... sorry!:shame:  You know, I've been trying to convince my DH that we should move to the south of France whenever we return(that's years away, I'm sure) ..but he seems to truly think that Paris is the center of the universe.:shrugs::sweatdrop: but thats just him. ...Not representative of all Parisians.

LOL, well, I think that's a symptom of any kind of capital dweller, not just in France. ;) I'm guilty of it myself on the scale of my own resident country. :push: South of France is great for a leisure house, but it's not nearly as vibrant, cosmopolitan and of course *refined* as Paris as I'm sure you know, so I can understand why he would not want to live down there with all the rugged vulgar rustic people, the even more vulgar english and other tasteless nouveau riche etrangers tourists and the italians. :roflmfao::p (ok, I better stop this now..sometimes irony doesen't go well across the www )
