Is the Hermes "Birkin" worth the money and the wait? Is it obtainable?

I know it is a marketing ploy. I think that if something is out of reach (fake or real) it makes people want it more. Also, the higher the price tag of an item, people want it more. Nowadays, price doesn't equal quality. Besides, you see many people carrying Hermes now especially ordinary people. I don't think it is much of the status symbol as it use to be. Once the masses own Hermes bags, it is not so exclusive anymore.

I agree

I think Chanel just got that ;) with the price increases. And some have even said that they needed to put their name on a list to get the bag they wanted!

I agree. It's like waiting to take a planned vacation and makes you think about it that much more.

As for the question, it's worth the wait and money if you really love it. There's no reason to make such a purchase on something that is a flavour of the month for you; I think that would be the real waste.

I've recently started the hunt for my first birkin and while my husband didn't understand it at first, 5 countries, 8 cities later, he's become as determined as me to complete the mission! After all the failures, I think it'll be the taste of satisfaction almost as much as the bag itself that'll make it worth it! I think its become much more than a status symbol but there is still that 'almost unattainable' stigma attached to it, making it more desirable for people of any socioeconomic background. As for the wait & money, its an indulgence and in my case, handbag are like a hobby/passion so I don't mind waiting or paying for the one I want!

i personally am not too crazy about the birkin ( i know everyone's jaws dropped haha). I mean, its nice but i dont see myself EVER spending that much money on a bag. Its classic- but i like very unique bags that stand out. I feel like the birkin is "unique" only because its rare and symobizes high status only because society has made it into a high status bag. If it didn't have the name of Hermes, I feel like you wouldn't be able to pick it out from the other plain bags at a store like tj maxx. i know im definitely in the minority for this opinion lol.
