Is anyone else tired of the Chanel Bag trend?

I live in a major US city and I really only see Chanel bags being worn in certain areas.

That said I dont think I’m necessarily tired of seeing it. But I do scratch my head when I see 20 somethings flexing their many Chanel classic flaps on social media. I am almost 50 and I remember being in my early 20’s aspiring to own a Chanel or Birkin later in life when I achieve X,Y,Z first. Now that I have achieved those goals and then some, it’s only now in the last 3 years that I have started with Chanel and Hermès.

I guess my point is if at age 20 something having all those Chanel bags, what do you aspire to next? I guess it’s a matter of priorities and what one prioritizes.

But to answer the question because I went on a tangent, since I don’t see Chanel’s as much in the wild, I love carrying them! Don’t love seeing it so much on social media though. As for myself, I love my bags, they are beautiful bags and I buy bags to wear so I do wear mine in constant rotation

I will never tire of Chanel, the aesthetic is what I genuinely love and have loved it long before social media. I think it’s always been a very desirable brand, but perhaps more so in the last few years. When I lived in London 3 years ago, I could walk into a Chanel store any time of day with no line. LV on the other hand always had long lines. I even went to one of the Chanel stores on a Saturday once and it was nearly empty. Now I hear there are lines all the time, so in that sense yes I am tired of the trend because I don’t like it when luxury shopping feels overly busy and chaotic. The LV stores in London were always so so busy and I hate to think Chanel is like that now.

Maybe. I think it was her nice way of saying the brand is very "mature". I said what about Dior she says OH MY GOSH I LOVE DIOR! Gucci is a little tired, although they like the belts. LV is way up there, still, along w/ ALL LV accessories. I think she felt like those brands are trying to cater to the younger generation but Chanel isn't?
hmm I can see that! Gucci has their collabs (north face & balenciaga) Dior markets in social media heavily with influencers. LV constantly has hype collections and pushes on social media too

What is chanel doing.. raising prices! this basically guarantees that when a Gen Z wants to buy their first lux bag it won't be with Chanel. 8K for a first lux bag is beyond a stretch! They are pricing out first time purse buyers hence why someone your niece's age would look to other brands for their purchases

Although I do see Chanel as more saturated and trendy especially in social media, I still see them as classic and still love mine. I do think the classic has a more mature look than other bags especially in caviar. I live in a suburb outside of LA and do see them on occasion but not everywhere especially when I worked as a software engineer in the entertainment industry. You don’t see them in the office. I am not tired yet, lol. I honestly see them more at highend shopping malls and on social media; I have seen some young influencers who carry very used bags and as one of their sole designer bags. Also I do know a friend of a friend who isn’t ashamed to rock a fake just to carry one. It infuriates my friend, and I would never ever ever (not my style and yuck), but honestly not everyone can afford to shell out the $5k+ for a bag. When I go to West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Newport Beach, South Coast Plaza, I see them a lot more out shopping and at restaurants, bars. My friend who lives in Newport Beach does see them on occasion too but more at the highend malls; she is in Real Estate and except for one other girl, she is the one that uses it most often in her office or among her Newport circle. Her daughters have gone to elite private schools and the 12 year old and her friends are into small LVs. My friend has bought her daughter 2 small LVs, but honestly doesn’t want her to get into it until she can actually afford to buy them herself. The 21 year old who goes to NYU now has been into mostly Prada and non-monogram LV such as the twist; she thinks all her mom’s Chanel bags look the same and doesn’t really care for them. It’s only the 12 year old who already gladly claims them saying by the time she is older and she wants to carry them they will be 15k lol. My 14 year old niece who frequents social media carries a Prada and lv pouchette and only simple Chanel jewelry which belonged to my late mother.

I think some of the responses from what the younger generations think may have to do with social media. They see what’s popular and trending and if they can get one bag whether it’s vintage or brand new it will suffice. Then there is us who really appreciate the fashion house and follow the collections that can’t just buy one. I’m not saying this for everyone as I’m sure there are many that have one bag or even looking at buying their first bag and truly appreciate the house but overall for most of us… Chanel is a slippery slope

Sure looks like it since literally every YouTuber is setting up closet sales and selling their Chanels *major eyeroll*.

seriously though, I don’t think Chanel is/was more or less trendy now than it ever was. I’ve been dreaming of owning a Chanel since I was a teenager in the eighties. I personally know very few people who own a Chanel, but many people who own designer bags. If you think it’s trendy, it’s the AI algoritem that is painting an alternate reality and it’s time to take a Meta/Google hiatus :)

There aren't too many folks sporting jumbos around me anymore (lots of mini and small bags) so it makes me want to get one. I think me not being a petit girl puts me at a disadvantage of the mini bag trend.

I think the heart of Chanel passed away with Karl when he left us. So sad. He brought back a dead & defunct company and reinvented it, time after time. HE WAS Chanel for more than 30 years, always keeping it fresh and genius. There will never be another Karl.

I feel like the bags now are just built upon the vintage styles that were released, e.g. heart bag, coco handle, mini rectangle vanity. Imagine my surprise when I realise those vintage bags actually look so similar to the new releases.
