Is anyone else tired of the Chanel Bag trend?

Perfume is a big seller too. I purchased Chanel eyeshadow eons ago before I even thought about handbags, slg's or shoes.

Just bc brands target the aspirational or those that want to appear wealthy does not mean that the rich rich don’t buy. But Rtw is not the bulk of revenue and luxury companies cannot survive alone on catering to the rich rich. Think about who really buys Chanel makeup, Fragrances, bags, fashion jewelry and shoes and accessories etc. there are so many ways for the masses to experience luxury at entry level points. Hermes is also trying to get into that game with now it’s nail polish and lipsticks. there are many articles about how luxury has been changing to survive. It’s smart marketing in their part. The unfortunate side is that once these brands suck people in there are many who likely can’t afford some of the items and will throw themselves into debt just to keep up with appearances.

I am a bit tired of the brand, as a company, in general. Still appreciate the history and the design.
What I really don't like is the terrible long lines out of Chanel. I don't like waiting in line and so I don't even bother trying to go in.
I enjoy window shopping and browsing without the intention to buy, which is something I did a lot when I was younger. The local Chanel stores in my area are inundated with people, so I know that if I make an appointment, I'm using up an SA/CA's time when I have no intention to buy. Depending on the SA, he or she may or may not mind, but I think most do.

I live in a well-off area in Southern California (not LA or Beverly Hills), and I feel that Chanel is kind of the norm. I see them when I go mall shopping, grocery shopping, when I run errands, etc. Chanel is very hot with young wealthy international Chinese students, so it's not surprising to see them wearing a lot of luxury. (Nothing against international Chinese students, I'm Chinese-born American and my husband was once an international Chinese student himself). Top favorites are the classic flap, coco handle, and trendy cc.
In the general population, LV and Goyard the classic work horses for totes like the Neverfull, and I see a Favorite PM or a Felicie pochette on the younger ones.
Hermes is concentrated in certain areas, like South Coast Plaza or Newport Beach, but not that uncommon either. I think everytime I go to those places I see at least 2-3 H bags.
I do get a bit bored (dare I say hah ) of seeing Chanel. That's why I when I see something different (like a Dior book tote or Dior saddle bag) I get a bit excited! (lady Diors were relatively common a few years back, still see them once a while)

I see quite a number of chanels where I am but I'm not sick of seeing them yet partially cause I'm still pretty new to chanel. I am however sick of the chase and having to be so on the ball and updated on the new releases just to get the popular items. This isn't the luxury experience I imagined of and makes me wonder if the experience was equally crazy pre covid and if stocks were bought up by resellers as quickly in the past.

Chanel does not have that chic, luxury, classy feel anymore. It’s become so accessible, every blogger will have one, as if it’s a high street brand.

For Chanel to hold it’s presence like it once did, it all comes down to the styling and how it’s showcased in order to have that once upon a time luxury heritage feel.

Totally disagree. The price point itself makes it unattainable for most. I also just saw this photo from a very high end blogger and socialite. Absolute beauty and elegance! I actually don't care much about bloggers or Instagram but just happened to see this on my feed. When I see it out in the wild it is always carried with a classy and elegant allure.

I'm curious if the people saying Chanel is tired and overdone do you own any Chanel classics flaps? I have several and they are divine! No other bag or brand will ever match!

Agreed the bag is amazing and it is a forever piece.

Even when speaking to my SA, we were discussing about how it’s so attainable now, you have young (teens) purchasing the brand, with credit cards (which is almost handed out like free money) and then wearing it with Nike joggers, just because they see it on social media as a trend price. It has lost its luxury in that sense, which is why I said it’s all about the styling for the bag to hold it stance/elegance that it truly deserves and has.

I Started this thread and I do own classic Chanel bags. I doubt that I will ever purchase another. For me, I find that they have lost their individuality and uniqueness. I dislike what the company stands for and seeing a tween at MOA buying an 8,000 bag with her daddy's charge has ruined me! Oh well, I will keep my classics and I do enjoy wearing them for certain occassions. Thank you all for your responses! I have really enjoyed reading all of them, ~Suz.

So true. I moved to the DC area from nyc after almost two decades and see even less Chanel here (expectedly) and didn’t see much of it in NYC to begin with.
Long time DC person here and you’re definitely right. DC is a very work bag place M-F business hours. Great but practical totes and what not, but come evenings out or weekends you see a few a more designer bags, to include Chanel. (getting that store in city centre may impact seeing more over time) That definitely depends on the area and/or event on if you even really see premium designer bags.

And per the work bag comment-you never know what bag is inside the longchamp hahaha

I’m also in the DC area though I work in northern VA, not DC proper. I feel like I see more Chanel than perhaps I used to but that could also be that I am looking at peoples bags more.

Honestly though, in all of the DC area, overwhelmingly the place I see the most Chanel is … at Tysons II Galleria. Where there is a Chanel boutique.

My 19 yo niece is in town, at school in Texas. She, I would say, is kind of on the up and up with "things" - Porsche, Rolex, several LV bags etc. and I thought, why not see how she thinks about these designers? She said Chanel is "way up there" price wise, understood that it was a very high end brand, but also said, "if you see 1 you've seen them all". I thought that was interesting. She said it's just like seeing the same thing over and over again, ins't that all they do? Just keep making exactly the same thing? She said "while it's beautiful, I don't see a reason to ever have more than 1". So there's an example of our next generation...

interesting ! I wonder if that generation is more interested in several categories like jewelry , scarfs, hats, and shoes from a brand like Chanel rather than being a bag collector and buying an array of colors of the same classic flap.

Maybe. I think it was her nice way of saying the brand is very "mature". I said what about Dior she says OH MY GOSH I LOVE DIOR! Gucci is a little tired, although they like the belts. LV is way up there, still, along w/ ALL LV accessories. I think she felt like those brands are trying to cater to the younger generation but Chanel isn't?
