Is anyone else tired of the Chanel Bag trend?

I’ve only really started getting into Chanel the last few years, so don’t think I am sick of it yet. I see a few people with bags in my city, but not many, and I enjoy seeing how people style them, and think they look good across all age groups.

I don’t really follow social media, but I do feel it does fuel the frenzy though come the new seasons, and my SA says most people come in looking for bags that are the ones splashed all over Instagram.

I see a decent number of Chanels. I think they are beautiful but classic - I'm middle aged. I'm not really sure how they became so trendy, it is basically the same bag in multiple sizes and its a bag that honestly, one of my kids could design - there is not much to it. But I do love classic simplicity so I'm a fan but haven't gotten one yet- I am not sure I would have much fun worrying about how safe my bag was all the time.

hmm I can see that! Gucci has their collabs (north face & balenciaga) Dior markets in social media heavily with influencers. LV constantly has hype collections and pushes on social media too

What is chanel doing.. raising prices! this basically guarantees that when a Gen Z wants to buy their first lux bag it won't be with Chanel. 8K for a first lux bag is beyond a stretch! They are pricing out first time purse buyers hence why someone your niece's age would look to other brands for their purchases
Except she’s driving a Porsche, wearing a Rolex and has several LV bags. I don’t think it’s about the money, I think it’s the girl and whatever she thinks is trendy.

I’m not sure why seeing a rich teenager with a bag would deter you from liking something.

Totally. Some don't like Bs and Ks anymore because of the Kardashians, but I say who cares what other people including rich and famous wear. It's how you carry it that makes it look classy or not. Also, regardless of how you feel about the Kardashians, they have nice things!

I live in ATL adjacent and I don't see a lot of Chanel bags being carried. However, the LV and Gucci wearing is exhausting. I know ppl have the right to carry what they want but seeing it sooooo much makes me not want to wear mine. Idk why I even care as I buy the classics. I'm not into the trendy bags. As far as trends I think all the designers are doing too much.

I used to live in ATL and I also agree LV and Gucci was much more prevalent. The number of people at the LV store at Lenox and the Gucci store at Phipps is easily double the number of people at the 2 Chanel boutiques. For every 1 Chanel I saw out I saw 3-5 LVs and/or Gucci.

Based on the activity on each collection thread I don’t see many on this forum feeling tired of the brand. People (me included) still jumping through hoops to get their hands on the Las test Chanel CFs or even the seasonal pieces. Maybe tired of the rat race but not the actual bags.

Agree. All the comments saying that people don’t want to wear a bag because a certain demo is wearing it or they “see” lots of other people with it is telling.

So are people buying the bag because they love it or are they buying it to have something over others. Honestly, this thread is getting sickening.
Some may have money from their parents but some may be up to their eyeballs in debt. Gen z is so focused on appearances at least on social media.
I think we should let people buy what they want regardless of age. Gen X, Boomers and Silents have been focused on keeping up with the Joneses and have the debt to show it. So, there’s no room to throw stones across the generations.

i think you can appreciate a bag for its beauty and history and workmanship but not want to carry it anymore bc it’s become too trendy and too much in the public eye. Maybe it’s about wanting something different or maybe low key or maybe it’s about safety. The problem these days is luxury buying has become so normalized in social media. If a teenager or a college student wants to go buy a 9k jumbo, they should go for it. But that’s not normal and social media is normalizing these things.

As for other gens being in debt, sure there are those in the older gens who very well may be. But, that’s not the norm and not at least where I live. Most people in my age bracket and older aren’t running around with luxury bags or keeping up with the joneses bc they are the joneses.

I totally agree with you. People always want to be better than the others but possessions and material things ain't it. The only thing that can make you have something that others don't is bespoke and/or special orders.

They all have debts, be it mortgage, credit cards, and they don't buy their luxury cars in cash. And I personally don't believe in 'what is normal and what is not normal' as long as it doesn't hurt humanity and nature.

But hasn’t all this focus on materialism and normalizing buying 9k bags been detrimental? Gen z and millennials have
perfected the art of flexing. You don’t think flexing doesn’t harm how people feel about themselves? For example many studies show that social media is hurting the self esteem of many gen z and millenials. There are also studies of how economic inequalities result in people wanting to feel better about themselves at their financial expense. But the most interesting studies of all are the studies that show people generally prefer to be friends with those who don’t have luxury and luxury has a tendency to make people selfish.

It's not only designer bags and shoes and clothes that would change people with suspicious characters. Cars, university degrees 'glow-up' etc would too if the said person is not a confident person. We don't know the background of the people who rock designer bags nor their financial situation, that's all I'm trying to say. Millennials and Gen Z are not the ones who flex, we just see them now more openly thanks to Instagram and Tik Tok.
