First of all: I am not tired of my Chanel bags/shoes/accessories (they were just too expensive!) And I will enjoy them whenever I can and feel comfortable wearing them.
Nonetheless, I also have noticed how people buy/ show off luxury and how it is regarded “normal“ on social media. Shocking. Unhealthy. Dare I say inappropriate?
I‘ve just read both articles. To an extend I am not surprised by these studies.
On the other hand I think it’s quite interesting how people choose to wear logos to events or rather take a luxury car/purse/watch when meeting new people/potential new friends.
Because:
There are a ton of threads in this forum, which show how TPF members are quite the opposite.
Hiding our luxury purchases, prefering non-logo RTW, not taking bags/accessories to certain locations or not using them around certain people and in certain areas (be it family, friends, colleagues, clients, travel, or whatever…).
I am one of the persons, who quickly feels uncomfortable wearing Chanel.
I like my Chanel scarf, because wrapped around my neck nobody can tell which brand it is from. I love my Chanel pumps with the tiny logos on the heel, because most won’t notice and I enjoy my Chanel SLGs, because nobody sees them in my bag. It is for me. I enjoy it for myself! (Like everybody/most here on tpf…)
My Chanel bags get used very rarely, because of that. Just this weekend I caught myself turning my Chanel bag with the lock to my body,… so I could go under the radar. Still, I loved wearing it. I know…strange…
What I am trying to say: I care how people see me. And I don’t want them to think I am superficial and a logo-person. In return I don’t mind making friends who love luxury themselves and who obviously wear logos.
And: I refuse to think that carrying a Chanel-anything would prevent me from helping someone on the street
that is just strange to me… very weird…
anyway- thanks for reading.

Thank you for these links! But hasn’t all this focus on materialism and normalizing buying 9k bags been detrimental? Gen z and millennials have
perfected the art of flexing. You don’t think flexing doesn’t harm how people feel about themselves? For example many studies show that social media is hurting the self esteem of many gen z and millenials. There are also studies of how economic inequalities result in people wanting to feel better about themselves at their financial expense. But the most interesting studies of all are the studies that show people generally prefer to be friends with those who don’t have luxury and luxury has a tendency to make people selfish.
